Most of you are likely too young to remember "Tron," but suffice it to say, it was the sci-fi lover's Holy Grail when it released. It may look cheesy now, but that stuff was cutting edge at the time.
And in the recent tradition of bringing old classics to life with fresh technology and visuals, a new "Tron" will be headed to movie theaters some time next year. That means there would be a 30-year gap between the original picture and what they're calling "Tron Legacy," but that's okay…once a sci-fi fanatic, always a sci-fi fanatic, right? But even way back then, there was a video game that went along with the movie and if you're not familiar, you should do the research; that game was fun . So of course, we want another game for this new movie, and it seems we've received confirmation that is indeed in the works. According to GameSpot citing the Latino Review , original "Tron" director and producer on "Legacy," Steven Lisberger, has clarified the situation:
"I don't know whether I'm supposed to say it, but I'm saying it. There is definitely [a video game.] How could there not be?"
Well, duh. Lisberger added that Disney is handling in-house development now, which means this game should be in the works at Disney Interactive Studios. While there is a three-decade gap between the first movie and this sequel, there won't even be a 10-year gap between the last "Tron"-based video game and this new title. Tron 2.0 released for the PC back in 2003, then was ported to the Xbox and GameBoy Advance the following year. Why? Because movies like "Tron" are perfect for games. Let's just hope both the "Tron Legacy" movie and the game adaptation are worth our time and money.
I never really liked the movie, and if I remember correctly, the critics roasted it too. Somehow it got a cult following. Go figure.
i dont see it doing well due to Disney.
lookin forward to the new movie. the original used cg first and did it well. the standard for the new one is gonna set the bar pretty high but then again with cgi in every movie that comes out now it's hard to get that wow factor back into movies. but yeah the game is gonna rock too!!!
"Most of you are likely too young to remember Tron."
Really?
DUDE!!! I used to run around with a frisbee pretending I was in the movie when I was young…and again yesterday…
Anyway, the original game was fun and barring a massive flub in the fabric of reality this should prove to be immense entertainment as well.
Holy sh**. You too? 😉
Ummmm.. correct me if I'm wrong but, wasn't there already a new Tron movie a few years ago. Mabey I'm just having a brain fart or a memory lapse.
I used to love that movie.
I'm definitely looking forward to this movie. I used to play Tron Deadly Discs way back on Intellivsion!!!
I was just going to name drop that game. 😉
Yeah, the movie bombed in the theater, and the XBOX game Tron 2.0 was awful … I remember being really excited to play it, getting it on day one, and taking it back to the store because it was "defective", (it worked in my favor, as I bought the only copy they had received and I got store credit for it). That's not to say I am not excited for the new movie, (I loved the original), and would like to see a decent game come out of it…
… or maybe I just like the punishment of high expectations being crushed by inferior final results ….
Tron was an amazing movie and a great game. I don't think the new game will be anything like the old one, esp. since in the old one all you do is beat the same levels over and over and they just get harder and harder – in fact I dont know why that was so fun, but it was.
Can't wait for both.
Congrats on making me feel old Ben. LOL
Seriously though, I am hoping the movie does not disappoint. The game? Either way, but as long as the cycle's are done right, I will be happy!
I used to love the old arcade game back in the day. The movie was pretty cool too. I'll be happy if all this remake stuff leads to the old game from the '80s being included as an extra, or made available as a download or something.

I think you underestimate how many old farts you have here Ben! I'd say almost half the folks here saw Tron when it came out. Show of hands?
I walked to the mall to see this movie when I was a kid.
Tron deadly discs was awesome. The light cycles were cool too, but not like the discs.
Do anyone remember the Tron world in Kingdom Hearts 2? that was pretty cool. Maybe they can learn from that.
I was gonna say that <.<
Hopefully this will be as good as the original 🙂 and yes I am one of the old ones who remember the original. I remember Logans Run too 🙂
This should also be in Kingdom Hearts: Birth by Sleep and KH3!
Woop.
