Currently Delayed Titles May Get Pushed Even Further

Many major titles escaped out of Q4 2009 due to the impending software jam that occurs so often during the holiday season. But with so many escaping to the same new launch period, won't they be facing the same problem next year…?

This is the kind of logic Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot speaks about when he suggested that many of the "AAA" titles now slated for Q1 2010 may get delayed again…for the same reason they were pushed back in the first place. According to MCV , "panicked publishers" may keep delaying certain big titles so there won't be so much competition. We've already seen Heavy Rain , Bioshock 2 , Red Dead Redemption , Splinter Cell: Conviction and Bayonetta get bounced into 2010, but they're all facing a similar release time frame. Said Guillemot:

"We now have a situation where there are a lot of good games due for release in the first half of next year, but I think some publishers will move again. The first quarter of 2010 is looking pretty crazy. So I expect some movement from the other players – some of those delayed games will be moved again."

Gamers have often complained about too many top-notch titles releasing in one particular part of the year, but what happens when most of them run to the exact same hiding spot? They'll all hit store shelves at about the same time, despite their initial intent to get away from one another. How ironic.

As much as I hate delays, a few more might actuallly be helpful to me (or at least easier on my wallet), since there are about half a dozen must-buy titles currently slated to be released in Q1.

too true my friend. what they need to do is spread the games evenly over the year, then damn market them. i mean, now i care for heavy rain, i will pay attention to the release date.

i mean, marketting is the key, not timing. ben just reviewed a game, way of the samurai. i've never even heard of it. heavy rain, unchrtd 2, mw2 are mmarketing, they will sell whenever.

This might not be so bad since it gives developers more development time to check the game and fix some things around. Is not easy selling so many games all together. Even if have a triple A game that would still affect you if they release all of them together. I want all those games you posted. To play on my old 60GB ps3.

Longer delay = less hurt on the wallet and (hopefully) higher quality in the game.

I can live with it ;).

I thought in order for a game to get pushed back or delayed there would have to be a date of release that is changed. Know that I'm talking about Heavy Rain, and so far all I ever heard was TBD and then early this year it was said possible 2010 release.

So how does this work if there is no set date?? I wanna know darn it *sips juice box*

to be honest i dont mind all that much if they all come out at the same time i can get the game i want the most, then while im playing it the other games will decrease in price

basically it allows me to get my priorties straight and only get the games i really want

The simple solution would be release 1 game every month of the year. There would be no more dry spells and everyone would end up happy including me.

zactly. There was NOTHING in July and August. Theres always a dry spell in late spring, then late summer. Then the storm comes in at the end of the year with 8 billion awesome games to get.

All the delays are a good sign though. It means the PS3 is hemorraging AAA games and theres not enough days on the calendar to get them all out. Who wins? We, the customers, win.

I usually grab a game in the early fall (uncharted 2 this year), then get people to buy me the rest of the good games for christmas. It works out well for everyone because apparently im "hard to buy gifts for" so i can get away with telling people flat out what i want from them 😀

With all the awesome that is to be released spring 2010, I'm still in awe over EA thinking they can release SKATE3 in May.

Just. Not. Heavy. Rain.

I would buy that over any other title coming out. Hands down.

I don't know dudes, I am still not entirely convinced yet. We will have to see how Heavy Rain plays… its the odd one in the pack… could be evolutionary though if the game mechanic and story telling progression work well together.

That's exactly my point. It's the odd one out. All of the other games being released, great as they may be, are in part games we've all played before (beit sequels or new IPs in old genres). Quantic Dream is making something ambitiously different and I'm ready for that.

OMFG!
do developers even listen to what they say?
there whole excuse to delay splinter cell conviction was to avoid the AAA lineup.
and now there saying it may happen again for the same reason???????????
ok its official devs have the mental capacity of a monkey.
ive been saying that ever since the excuse came up, almost every game delayed out of this year was to "avoid the game rush".
so they leave a busy time, for a busier time.
its like saying nah this car is to expensive for me, so ill go and spend 100000 bucks more.
or nah this area is to busy and noisy for me so they go live next to one of the worlds nosiest highways.
i think publishers and developers, the head boss should come up with a answer to common questions.
that way every answer they give does not contradict their previous answer.
on other hands if heavy rain is not out by late febuary im going to go ape shit!
im sick to death of waiting 4+ years for a game.
i know the game is massive and such but
1 david cage at E3 said its done, just polishing and waiting for sonys green light.
2 naughty dog did uncharted 2 in what 2 years?
insomniac have done 5 yes 5 in roughly 2.5 years.
so whats PD or quantic dreams excuse?

Qubex

What is your name, unnamed?

Quantic Dreams are still dreaming me thinks… anyway, what ever reasons behind these delays, all these games could get a couple more months of testing and polish…

Every game in that list should move EXCEPT Heavy Rain. That's the only one in there I'm really interested in. I have Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2 to make me happy all the way to the end of 2009, I have the God of War Collection to tie me over at the beginning of 2010 and then I have Heavy Rain, God of War III and The Last Guardian for the rest of that year. It's a great time to own a PS3! =)

Buying pretty much all games coming out in early 2010, at least the noticeable one like the mentioned titles.

Now, I can look forward to keeping some of my money and more time to play the games I will get: Demon's Souls, Uncharted 2, Ratchet and Clank, MW2, and GT5.

With that being said PSP GT received only a passable score from IGN. They stated the game doesn't have a career mode.

Doesn't it cost them a lot more money to keep the whole development staff working for an extra six months? I'd be all for pushing release dates back to spread out the great titles, and polish them to perfection – but if they're just going to finish it and then let it sit, it will probably just raise everybody's expectations to impossible levels. "We waited an extra 8 months…for this!?!"

Heavy Rain was never delayed, it was always slated for a 2010 release date.
