Eternal Sonata , Tales of Vesperia , and now, Star Ocean: The Last Hope . Hopefully, it will be the last example of an anticipated RPG that debuts on one platform while leaving owners of another platform out in the cold.
The rumors have flown all year: will Square-Enix ever bring the latest Star Ocean iteration to the PlayStation 3? The answer has always seemed to be a vague "yes," with pieces of evidence pointing towards an eventual port. Well, according to the latest Famitsu issue , it has been confirmed. The game is coming to Sony's console as Star Ocean: The Last Hope International , and like the other two RPGs we just mentioned, it'll contain a host of fresh updates and extra goodies. This one will contain new characters, a revamped combat system, improved menus, and dual-language support for English and Japanese. It's scheduled to release in Japan on February 4, 2010. Now, as you RPG aficionados know, Tales of Vesperia is also coming to the PS3 but there's no word yet on whether or not it'll arrive on US or European shores. We're hoping Square-Enix doesn't ignore other regions with Star Ocean but we'll just have to wait and see…and hope. The "new characters" fact alone should entice many consumers.
From a personal standpoint, I would like to add that after spending 25 hours with The Last Hope , I found it to be a solid and engaging RPG, but the fighting system finally got to me. That "improved targeting system" may or may not help; I'm not sure. But either way, I really would like to see other RPG fans in this country get a crack at it.

Tha_Joker_186 beat you to it =P
Hmm. Well since I'm on RPG hunt, this goes on the list. Last Rebellion is No. 1 on that list though. And vsXIII.
Are SE crawling back? Or just following the band wagon of releasing upgraded versions of 360 exclusives to the PS3? I bet they finally decide to announce The Last Remnant for PS3 aswell. Either way, it's definately not complaint. Fair share, I say!
yea, they see the sales of ps3 games outclassing their games(WKC and yakuza 3) along with horrible 360 sales
surprised? – no.
disappointed? – maybe.
a huge confirmation that MS is an embarrassment when it comes to 3rd party 'exclusives'? – do you need to ask?
I started this on 360 and didn't really care for it. I guess it's either a love or hate relationship with Star Ocean series. It's a great looking game, just felt a bit dry. Curious if there are any plans to change/enhance any gameplay elements.
Side note; I want my turn-based RPGs back (on a console)…

Okay, maybe if I actually 'read' the article rather than skimming it I would have seen Ben mention the enhanced targeting system.
Though, I have to agree that I did not care for the battle system and don't think changing the targeting method will make me want to buy the game again on PS3.
oh the japanese 360 owners will get a crack at it alright ben, they'll get 3 cracks each…lol
anyway i look forward to it, i liked so3 so we'll see here. just the voices are ugh
English and Japanese language?
I smell an import if the Europe date is far off.
Agreed. As easy a decision to import as there can be.
finally now alll we need is a u.s version
Not really, the US voices suck ass. Dont need a US version since ps3 games aren't region locked. The only thing that will make me wait for a US release is the 90 dollar import price.
Agreed. Easy import.
more system-smashing goodness.
I don't understand why Squeenix decided to release this for Xbox only in japan to begin with. The PS3 sales have always faired better in japan.
Either MS made a deal with them, or they have extremely misguided brass making top decisions. Probably a combination of both.
Yep. It IS confounding that the 360 gets more exclusive RPGs and shooters in Japan compared to the PS3.
Smart move, but not for me. This installment of SO is abysmal.
I'll get it, but not in any manner that feeds money to SE for this long wait.
so your going to buy it at gamestop?
if need be.
Don't do it. It'll be $10 at Target in no time.
I enjoyed this title so I'll definitely get the ps3 version. I would love Lost Odyssey for the PS3 but I doubt it happens.

Indeed, i also want Lost Odyssey, I doubt i'll get this until its cheap. S-E had there chance at the original release, but ive just lost interest now.
Lost Odyssey is such a great game. And yet it was so underappreciated on the 360 =
Square can keep this trash. A remake of part 2 would be nice.
its not a bad game. every game has its flaws. i think the game wouldve fared better if it was released on the ps3 from the get go. i don't mean to sound like a fanboy, but re-using each multi-disks, the bad lip-syching, the minor graphical glitches, and the sudden freezing should make it obvious that SO:TLH wasn't meant to be an xbox game. it looked like they restricted some capabilities to make it look like it was for it. :/
as for ppl wanting lost odyssey for ps3, there's no need to be greedy. just because the ps3 lost most of its rpgs doesn't mean it has to lose them all (…tho i am surprised LO wasn't ported already :P).
A little too late for me to want to care sadly =
What they really need to add is the ability for japenese voice overs instead of the English Cast. The voices were atrocious and ruined any happiness I found in it. "Kay?" Anyway I still don't think this game was that great even without the voices. I'm glad the Ps3 crowd can try it out but in the end it gives a sort of "meh" feeling when hearing about this news.
I knew it!! I have been waiting for this moment. I officially announce that I no longer envy XBox for ANY games. (me not big on shooters)
Well if it has all english and Japanese voices, it's not a big deal to release it across the world, it's probably waiting for all the xbox sales to complete first.
not even fable?
Fable feels like a mixture of "The Sims" and "World of Warcraft". It doesn't seem so fun.
just want to say one sentence: if all the JRPG are ported to PS3, then I will sell my 360 right away, period. (i mean Lost Odyssey, Inf Un, Last Rem., STO4, and the coming Magna Carta 2 …) plain and simple. get the 360 only for that. nohting more.
I had a feeling it would come to the PS3. From the very first day I saw the 360 box art I had the feeling it was coming our way. I say that only because the box art didn't say "Only on 360."
Yep
Meh, don't THINK I'm gonna like it.
I'm stoked. I've been avoiding picking this up on 360 because I felt confident they would do this. I hope they announce NA releases for this and Vesperia soon.
Me too! lol
And I hope it comes to PAL regions.
I'll love this game.
100%, no other alternatives ^_^
Well, unless they made the menus and stuff very different then I might 90% love it.
And I just knew the PS3 was gonna' get an upgraded version, waiting usually yields rewards.
