Firmware Update 3.01 Now Live: The “Fix-It” Patch

Although firmware update 3.00 delivered plenty of significant new features, not everyone was the biggest fan of the cosmetic overhauls. Furthermore, a few unwanted glitches came along with the update as well, which is why Sony was forced to take action.

it didn't take long for Sony to acknowledge the issues that update 3.00 were responsible for, and now we have firmware update 3.01. It is currently live and available to download, so if you're one of those who experienced technical problems after obtaining the previous update, go for it. Firmware 3.01 does not include any new features and although Sony has said they'd reconsider the new-look Friends list on the XMB, that also remains the same (for now, anyway). Clearly, this update was designed to combat the aforementioned issues, and that includes Dual Shock 3 controllers that wouldn't function and frequent freezing foul-ups in Uncharted: Drake's Fortune . So far, it seems the update has indeed addressed these problems, as we've already seen reports of people being able to successfully play through the previous "freeze points" in Uncharted . We're also going to go out on a limb and assume the controller issue was fixed, too (if not, let us know). As for complaints about the visual changes and stuff like that, you may have to wait a bit longer to hear and/or see any results.  Stay tuned for that.

Oh, and we forgot to mention that firmware update 3.01 is optional. If you didn't have any problems with 3.00, you don't have to grab 3.01, but perhaps you should do so just in case…
