Guitar Hero 5 Rules UK Charts, Beatles: Rock Band In Top 5

Who says the music genre is slowing down? We still think Activision is going a little nutty with all these "Hero" installments, but even so, the fans of plastic instruments continue to step forward with pocketfuls of cash.

We'll be interested to see if the US charts are any different, but for now, it's enough to know that Guitar Hero 5 has topped the UK sales charts in its first week of availability. The competition, The Beatles: Rock Band , secured the #4 spot, which only proves that there's plenty of room in the marketplace for both music-based franchises. However, while the full packages for these games are indeed expensive, we expect the majority of fans only bought the game itself for the regular $60, as the instruments for both Guitar Hero and Rock Band are compatible with each new entry (er…we think). Other notable titles on the chart for last week include DiRT 2 , which was second only to Guitar Hero 5 , the stellar Batman: Arkham Asylum , which landed at #3, and the somewhat surprising IL-2 Sturmovik: Birds of Prey , which occupied the #7 slot. But there's just no stopping the train that is Guitar Hero , and we doubt it'll perform any less admirably in North America. We'll have to see how Guitar Hero: Van Halen and DJ Hero perform a little later, though.

Have you picked up the new Guitar Hero yet? We say it's just another awesome effort , and the fans should be plenty happy.
