Hey ESPN, you should really dig into this; we all kinda joke about the "Madden curse" but damn…it's back again, so Fitzgerald better not go high over the middle for any passes. Stay down, boy!
You probably already know that this year's cover for Madden NFL 10 features Troy Polamalu from the Pittsburgh Steelers and Larry Fitzgerald of the Arizona Cardinals; a fitting tribute to the two Super Bowl teams from last year that gave fans such a tremendous game. And what happens in the season opener between Pittsburgh and the Tennessee Titans? Polamalu goes down with a strained MCL; a knee injury that will keep him out approximately 3-6 weeks. Steeler fans are hoping he's back out there ASAP because he really is a major part of that next-generation Steel Curtain defense. And EA should really consider leaving the cover of next year's Madden entry completely blank; either that, or just feature a generic picture of a football or a stadium or something. Anything to protect the players! Oh, but if you're wondering, Pittsburgh did eke out a win in overtime (after the typically reliable Hines Ward coughed up the ball deep in Tennessee territory towards the end of regulation). So Polamalu's team gets the victory, but the rest of the defense is gonna have to step up over the next few weeks.
Seriously, some astrologer should do some research on this. The entire situation is just out of control .

I'm not one to wish injuries on any players, but as a Raven's fan …Nah! Tough break, but with or without him the Peelers are going down this season. Please believe!
It was a MCL.
Fitzgerald better watch out! ;o
As DarthNemesis said, I don't wish ill on anyone (well, except the Yankees), but as a Seahakws fan I can't say I'd be disappointed, especially after the curse bit Shaun Alexander a few years ago.
I was going to flame-bait the Yankees fans out there, but thought better of it; I'm sure they'll vote me down anyway.

Well since Fitzgerald cardinals are in seahawks division, if he goes down it'll be two easy wins for the seahawks.
Go Seahawks!! Were back baby!
wow… i forgot about troy polamalu on the cover.
I even made the prediction after he made that sweet interception that he was gonna be Def. Player of the Year…3 plays later…injured, out for the game. Haha, crazy stuff!
Yeah it was his MCL, still bad though. He's a HELL of a player and that sucks for him but I personally hate the Steelers with the white hot fury of a thousand suns and hope they get their asses handed to them for the next 3-6. The secondary totally fell apart without him. What's the deal with the Head & Shoulders commercial? Does Polamalu always sound like Mike Tyson? I don't think I've ever heard him talk before.
This is the ad I'm talking about. It's pretty funny actually. "You asked with your eyes Trent."
im not for injuries to players, but I'm just glad my Bears won't have to face Troy in week 2 when the Steelers come to town.
That curse is really something though, its almost eery…
This is a big blow to my beloved Steelers *cries*… Polamalu should have known better than to agree to be on the Madden cover.
@DarthNemesis: Your ravens are going down against the Steelers even without Polamalu. 😉
Man. Hopefully Kurt prays hard for Fitz..
GO BEARS!!!
being english and enjoying such eccentric and old-fashioned sports like cricket, croquet and dwarf-tossing could someone be kind enough to fill me in on this curse. i'm guessing it's happened before but how many times and does it strike always the opening game?
every year they put one of the best players in the league on the cover and every year said cover athlete either gets injured near the beginning of the season, or they just don't perform nearly as well as they had the previous year. sometimes its far more serious than others. if polamalu come back in 3 weeks, thats nothing. michael vick was on the cover in 04 and he broke his femur in the preseason and was out almost all year
I don't believe the madden-curse. I believe the first time it happened was real; but now, I believe, they pay them to get injured, as long as the injury is not fatal. A lot of sports are rigged.
believing in curses is one (absolutely retarded) thing, but actually believing that they pay them to get injured… come on man. to even believe that its possible for the athletes to pull off these types of injuries on purpose is pathetically idiotic.
and like i said on the psx article that first talked about this year's cover athletes, i am a steelers fan, and regardless of whether or not troy gets injured, there is no f—ing curse. now that its happened, no, i am still not ignorant enough to believe this curse bs. even if fitz gets taken out, injuries are a part of the game. i bet its more rare for a player to make it through an entire season without sustaining at least one minor injury than it is to get relatively serious one

You know people will do anything to get money, right? Look at wrestling; people fake their deaths on there. They do all sorts of crazy things on there. You would think dropping a guy off a 15-foot ladder would be real. The same goes with football and many other sports. If it involves money, don't trust it.
thank god i only love real football
glory glory man-utd
Too bad for Troy. He was playing INSANE out there b4 the injury.
And when did the Madden curse ever leave?
Oh and go Cowboys!

One Handed Pick…..AND A PUSHOFF BY Kenny Britt,or Justin Gage whoever it was that got Mossed by Polamalu. For all the PIT haters(DarthNemesis)Wait till the Burgh comes to your city and Layeth The Smacketh Down on your QB,but none the less the curse is not true,I mean Favre didn't miss a game last year….Ohh yeah he tore his bicep tendon, but its all really a coincidence, any player who isn't on the cover has the same chance at injury as players who have been on it.The difference is the motivation to come back,McNabb,Vick, and Ray Lewis all worked hard to comeback after their injuries. Both Larry and Troy are hard workers and will give 110% to get back into shape.
