During the 2009 Consumer Electronics Show, Sony really impressed the attendees by showing several PlayStation 3 titles running in full 3D. You need special glasses to see them correctly but when you do…oh Lordy. We got a chance to see the likes of Gran Turismo 5: Prologue and MotorStorm running in three dimensional goodness, but of course, the big question was: "uh, don't we need a special TV to do this?" Yes, and the HDTVs that will support 3D gaming on the PS3 are scheduled to arrive next year, and according to a recent CNET report , Sony says they'll be ready to bring fully 3D-compatible Bravia HDTVs into production by the end of next year. At the IFA show in Berlin last week, Sony wowed everyone further by showing games like Wipeout HD in 3D, and this time, the technology needed was built into the TV itself. And when might this technology find its way into the PS3 hardware? Sony says this will all start in 2011 and if that happens, we'll all suddenly be in a quasi-virtual reality that we've never experienced before. Think the industry is moving at a rapid clip?
Well, we'll be certain to keep an eye on these proceedings, because it could change the entire way we look at games. Such a revolution hasn't happened in quite some time…
