The PS3 Slim was a huge announcement – second only in terms of importance to the price drop – but perhaps you're not happy with the 120GB hard drive. Maybe you need something twice as big. You data hog.
Well, the rumor of a 250GB PS3 Slim has been around almost since the original unveiling of the standard 120GB model, and now, we have even more evidence. Eurogamer Spain is reporting that the 250GB PS3 Slim will be available "as soon as October of this year," but it will come as a special package for Europe. This package will include FIFA 10 and be exclusive to retailer GAME; the expected price is €350 (£307). This comes not long after a FCC filing was found for this new Slim version, so at this point, the rumor might almost be confirmed. Of course, we don't say anything is official until we see the press release directly from Sony but most are already assuming that a 250GB Slim will be on store shelves for the holiday rush. If it is coming, you can expect it to be confirmed at the Tokyo Game Show in a few weeks time, where we also expect to hear about other big announcements. If you've already snagged the Slim…well, you can always swap out that drive with a bigger one; doing so does not void the warranty.
And obviously, we want to expect this new Slim to come in a special bundle package here, too. You know, just to kick things off on the right foot.
I know about ben and Arnold, but who is John Shepard?
He writes articles too. I don't ever see him comment though.
Don't worry, he is pretend.
Shhhh.
World: Don't worry, he is pretend.
Ben: Shhhh.
Ha
i couldn't help but chuckle at that exchange =)
He posts on here sometimes, he's a fun guy.
He spends a lot of time in the forums spanking fanboys and the like. Oh and he's got a temper, careful not to get on his wrong side. But call me if you land in some altercation with him and I'll be there to deal with him lol.
Does this mean another price drop on the current 120GB or a price increase on the 250GB? I know it means a $100 increase more than likely. I just don't understand SONY and its marketing strategies :S
Logicly speaking, you can find out the price by converting the price mentioned above, and basically see for yourself 🙂
Whether it's Euros or Pounds, I can't remember sorry =D
Prices for many devices (including video game consoles) are not the same in every country; which means that even if you do the conversion from one currency to another, it will not be the same. There are quite a few variables that determine prices depending on regions. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Sony seems to be pricing everything by USD and EUR using the same numerical amount. So the PS3 Slim is $300 (USD) and 300 Euro. If you have the price in Euro, you have the price in USD.
I just bought a 500gb hard drive for my slim. It should be in tomorrow and I can't wait. It's like giving your data a mansion to hang out in.
i have a 500gb HDD and its amazing. "oh let me load all my music, pictures and HD video on this thing, install like 7 games. WOW I HAVE 380GB left!"
Is drive swapping easier on slim versus busty PS3?
Anyway, I'll reiterate my statement from earlier this week and say the UK may get some things late but they have the best bundles.
It's supposed to be easier, but it wasn't hard to begin with on the fat one. I'll find out tomorrow for sure.
MMM…to be honest it's easier on Fat, but i mean the only thing different is on the slim you have to open a hatch, unscrew it, pop off the plastic covering the hdd case, then take out hdd cade and change it, and theen reverse order. fat = take off plastic case, unscrew, take out hdd case, replace and then reverse. so tech the slim has like…1 more step so yeah no biggie?
Yeah no biggie, I was just curious because I haven't upgraded my hdd yet.
Legend the placement of the HD on the Slim is far more practical. I think along with most reviews that it's easier to swap out HDs on the Slim vs the older Fat PS3s
MMM i really don't think so, i mean for the fat you can just slide it while leaving it at as and you can get to it from the side. the slim i have to essentialy grab it, flip it in the air and the hold it with my knees while i attack it with a screwdriver (since the screw is on the bottom of the ps3 but the hdd drive is on the side, lol wtf)
I think both are pretty easy and sure beats what the 360 is providing, lets agree to disagree since we both are happy with what we have.
it could not be easier to swap your HDD.
just dont do what i did, and put the HDD in its case plug it in and close everything up without screwing the HDD into the case.
i went to take the HDD out and now i cant because i dont have pliers small enough to get the dam thing out.
god i do some dumb things.
This is good for n00bs too lazy and too impressed by OMG Hard drive sizes!
It's better to get a normal ps3 Slim and get yourself a 300GB-500GB HDD

You get a thumbs up for that statement.
I got a 500gb drive for less than $100US. I agree with your thoughts on this. *braces for the thumbs down*
Listen up everyone, what I have to say about this article is important! I think Sony should…………..oh, wait that Guitar Hero 5 video add is running again. Give me a moment…..by Zeus's beard, there's some prime trim in that add!
lol it seems that people can never have enough, eventually some people will want more than 250gb i see the ps3 having 1000+ gigs of data storage in the future
Oh, it will happen. Hell. We've got 2TB drives now. It's only a matter of time before they find a way to cram more data storage on those platters for the 2.5" drives.
Western Digital already has 750gb and 1TB models waiting for shipment by years end.
True but will those 12.5mm thick drives fit into the new, revised PS3? I read that they don't fit in the older version PS3's that we are accustomed to.
I asked Sony about the 750gb and 1tb models and about putting it into the ps3, sony said it's a no go because those are technically 12.5mm while the ps3 is suited for 9.5mm hdd's

Damn Damn Damn!!!!
Hopefully bundles get announced soon. Im gonna sell my 80 gig fat non-bc so i can get a new slim. So as soon as bundles get released thats when i sell and buy.
lol, my PC only has 130 gigs on it its so old.
The first computer I ever owned which was actually mine and not shared by the family had a total of 1.3 gigs of storage.
Now I'm using well over 4TB not counting externals.

Sony needs to hit hard with these bundles. 360 is a laughable console but I do believe MS has been smart behind their bundles.
I just hope that they don't try to add $100 to the price tag and try to justify it with just 150 more gigs
lol gutted for the people that rushed out first thing to get one.
Here we go again. Are you intentionally trying to slow sales?
I predicted this 250GB Slim.
Same way I'm predicting silver or white Slims next year. No need to rush. Obviously the Slim is cheaper to produce so Sony is inevitably going to play around with it, make new colors, maybe the logo will be chromed etc…
I think that Sony has made the 120Gb PS3 the core system and the new 250Gb PS3 the replacement for the 160Gb PS3 bundle pack. They will probably charge $399.99 for the 250Gb PS3 bundles like what they are currently charging for the 160Gb bundle. Just making a logical assumption.
They will bundle a game too.
@LimitedVertigo
Sorry I didn't clarify, but usually when someone mentions bundle it is a given they are talking about a console and game else it is just a console.
bundle = console + game
Dear Sony,
please quit screwing around with PS3 hard drives. Really, what is the difference in cost between a 120 GB HD and a 250 GB HD, or even a 500 GB HD? $10? $20? $30 tops off of Newegg. Is that cost really significant when you buy a $300 gaming console?
My problem with my 80 GB 5400 rpm HD, is that I really don't have a use for it after I pull it out and put in my 320 GP 7200 rpm HD.
I guess I could amazon/ebay it, but really, I'd rather have not bought an HD in my PS3 that I wasn't going to use in the first place.
Buy a HDD enclosure for $10-20 and use it as a portable drive.
I agree with you that the larger drives don't offer much value for those who will replace the HDD immediately, but they do allow people to delay the replacement for a while and therefore save money or get a larger drive for the same price.

Why not just put a 500gb in it? why stop at 250gb… I upgraded first to 250gb, then 500gb when they became available.
When or if a 1Tb HDD comes at 9.5mm thick, I will consider upgrade again.
I want to be able to say, "1 Terra byte PS3 please"
Let's hope WD or Samsung can come up with 9.5mm HDDs in that capacity in 2010.
XBox 360 is releasing a 250GB console near XMAS with Halo 3, and the wifi adapter bundle in it. Sony is releasing a PS3 250GB with a game near XMAS also. If you don't want the bigger hard drive console don't buy it. The 250GB model is going to replace the 160GB Drake's Fortune Bundle. The game that comes with the 250GB model is undetermined at this point. Everyone stop complaining because this is how the industry is. PEACE!
