For those who never played the excellent Uncharted: Drake's Fortune , you'll just have to take our word for it: that game ruled . But for fans of the original, you'll be happy to know that this sequel is bigger and better in almost every conceivable way.
You may not have tapped into the latest Qore episode, but we usually check out the newest episodes, especially any that include new info for one of our most anticipated PlayStation 3 exclusives of the year. In the latest episode, Naughty Dog Creative Director Amy Henning talked about how the team has worked to give everyone a more fulfilling experience the whole way 'round, from the multiplayer to what the studio has often called a "full-length movie experience." Henning called it "bigger and more ambitious" than the first title and she also clarified one of the statistics we had discovered earlier: there are supposedly over 100 minutes of cinematic footage (we had initially heard about a 2-hour estimate, but whatever; it's close), which means there are lots more in the way of cinematic content in Uncharted 2 . At the same time, though, the devs aren't sacrificing anything in the way of actual gameplay, as they've also said the single-player campaign will be longer than the one in Drake's Fortune . The original was about 8-10 hours depending on who played it, so let's hope the sequel moves into the 12-15-hour range.
Remember, the multiplayer beta is coming soon; in fact, you can get into it on September 15 if you pre-ordered the game from GameStop. If not, you just have wait a few weeks longer, as it'll start on September 29 for everyone else. And of course, the game is slated to launch on October 13. Big day, PS3 owners…big day.
Related Game(s): Uncharted 2: Among Thieves
Thank you for the info, the first Uncharted and the Jak series had tons of this, so I was kinda expecting it!
Can't wait to see how the characters evolve in this series. I love the way they actually seem human instead of some emotionless steroid filled trigger happy character.
Mr. Phoenix, Sir, your cue!
Lol jk =D Gears of War is an awesome game!
That's a lot
And knowing how engaging Uncharted cutscenes are this makes it even better
Though, nothing beatst MGS4, THOSE are true cut scenes
LMAO…was gonna say how this is nothing compared to MGS 4 haha.
I think if they just combine these cinemas and put it directly into the theaters, I bet they could make much more money. It can easily make 150 million box office.
It's faster way to make money than wait a year to sell 2-3 million copies of the games.
…but then we couldnt play it…
…or Sony could front the money to make a real Uncharted movie, leaving us to play the games *and* see the movie.
The only way I'll watch an Uncharted live-action film is if Sony casts Nathan Fillion in the lead. I mean, they probably won't since he's not a "big money maker" but let's look at the fact: he sounds like Drake, he looks like Drake, he's a great actor and, oh, they have the same first name! It was totally meant to be! Like I said, though, they'll probably just give it to Brad Pitt or some shit.
Brad Pitt? I dont think they are that bad, but i think Colin farell would suit pretty well…
What I meant to say was that the cinemas in the game were so amazing, that it's movie length and quality already. Developers had put more effort into making the game, that it excel beyond a movie production.
@ tridon : No, Nathan Fillion is ok, but Nolan North (the guy who actually voice acts as Drake) looks much more like him. Only problem is he's kinda …old, but nothing special fx couldn't fix! Oh and he kinda needs to take a few acting lessons.
Uncharted is awesome
BUT (and I almost hate to toss this in) gimme news of a legit Jak sequel or even a rebooted compilation, and THEN i'll be stoked. Those games were the shiz
Fun platformers are FUN!
God I really miss the ps1 and N64 platforming days:
Banjo Kazooie
Crash
Spyro
Croc
Tomba
Klonoa
:*(
spyro was baddddddass
Don't get mad at me for this but Sony are idiots for letting Spyro and Crash slip away from them. Those two characters were their mascots. They should've paid Universal out of their wazoo to keep those rights.

100 minutes of cinema sounds like MGS4 hurry up oct 13.
If you mean that its gonna be an awesome game, then yes it does sound like metal gear solid 4.
exceeleent
Quote me on this. It's Metal Gear Solid 4 and GTA 4 all over again. Two AAAA tiles coming this year:
Assasin's Creed 2
Uncharted 2
Possibly GT5…..
I think you missed out Ratchet and Clank : A Crack In Time. Considering the past sales of the franchise and the quality of the title, that has to be considered a triple-A title as well.
@TheHighlander:
Hehehe, that wasn't a typo. Not triple-A
QUADRUPLE-A.
Rachet & Clank will definitely be a Triple-A title but I'm not sure if it will get 10/10 on both IGN and Gamespot. If it does then this shows the quality of PS3 games.
Personally, I pretty much have zero interest in Assassin's Creed II. I was ecstatic about the original when it came out and bought it first day (I was so excited that I even bought the Limited Edition version) but after I went home and sat down with it, it was really overrated and not very fun at all. I especially disliked how the game was through a virtual mind thingy from the future. That kind of took me out of the story. I personally think that the two highest-rated game this fall will be Uncharted 2 and Modern Warfare 2. Whether you agree or not, those two will be the biggest games of the remaining 2009.
When you consider that MGS4 sold 4 million when it were sold with bundles, Ratchet and Clank selling about 2 million when it was never bundled with consoles are pretty impressive.
I just finished Uncharted and it took me over 15 hours (not counting bits I had to replay, I assume). I only missed 8 of the treasures, so I was checking all the nooks and crannies.
I would say it had the best told story of any game I've played, with solid game play and pacing. Almost every aspect was extremely polished. My complaints were few. I would like too see less "arena" combat in the sequel and more chances for stealth kills and hand-to-hand combat without getting shot by snipers/grenadiers.
I liked it way more than Jak & Daxter, which I wanted to love, but found too frustrating.

I just beat it on crushing, you should try it. Its not really that hard, for me it was pretty easy. Only thing is that is a little challenging in a way that it makes you rethink rushing in, you gotta really plan your first move like which guy you're gonna deal with first, other than that its a cakewalk.
Crushing mode teaches you how to play that game. You have to be cool, even paced, deliberate, careful with your shots, and patient.
There is one room that is a little bit on the frustratingly, annoyingly, potentially insanely hard side, but it can be done.
I think you could play straight through in about 8 hours, but you'd be pretty much a guided missile going straight through, I'm not sure how enjoyable it would be.
The only issue I have in Crushing mode is how damn pinpoint accurate these pirates are, considering at times they shoot wildly. But the way they flank you out was just too unbelievable it actually makes the game a lot more fun.
Splinter Cell: Conviction has this ghost image (AI) feature where the enemy believes where you last were. Uncharted HAD that feature without the ghost image. It was funny how they're trying to flank out an empty spot.
(they should have a trophy for that).
I play every game "cool, even paced, deliberate, careful with [my] shots, and patient"; I never "rush in". My objective is to avoid getting hit at all, like a person would in real life. I don't like it when a game traps me in a room and has enemies spawn out of nowhere; I'd rather start in an advantageous position and plan my moves before jumping into action. That's why I like stealth games.
* spoiler??? *
I tried to play the graveyard area in stealth mode, but to no avail.
* end spoiler *
I did notice the AI wasn't as good playing on medium as it was in the demo. However, I probably won't play the whole game again (on hard or crushing) any time soon.

oh hell, i guess were gonna hear the arguements about these games are basically movies again like they did for MGS4. Call it what you want but i'm still playing the best games of this generation.
People have been wanting interactive movies for years, games like uncharted and MGS4 deliver on that. The cut scenes allow specific story elements to be told, while the action sequences are played. Personally I love it.
as long as its not MGS4 long.
i want to PLAY the game not watch it.
Sequels should always aim to out do the original. I do hope its longer than drake's fortune because I felt it was too short. I can't wait for October!! Im still disappointed there's no single player demo..
Short? Uncharted was long as hell!
One of the longest action/adventure games I've played this gen.
@bebestorm + @Scarecrow:
Both of you are right. It depends if you're trying to get all of the treasures or not. (Now that's a time killer)
The first was easily one of the best PS3 games released… up there with KZ2, Infamous, R&C, LBP… i cant decide wich is best of those… only MGS4 tops the others… but im sure Uncharted 2 will be up there aswell…
Cant wait! preordered this as soon as i could!
ben please enough with the teasers the wait is killing me.
8 more days till i can get me some uncharted 2 goodness.
That seems like a good amount for this particular game. Especially if it's more than 'Drake's Fortune.' I don't tend to separate interactive and non-interactive segments when I think back on games, as I view them as one whole experience, so it's hard for me to tell how many cutscenes are present and how long they are without timing them.
TheHighlander, if I wanted a interactive movie then titles like Night Trap or The 7the Guest are good enough, however I want to a game not a interactive movie.
If anything its very upsetting to me as a long-time gamer that games are becoming far, far removed from what they were intended to be…non-stop fun and not storylines or cinematics. Sadly though we not only have games shoving storylines and all this other crap down our throats, but have games force-feeding us an exuberant amounts of unneeded violence and sex for mere shock value in the hopes to make a quick dollar.
In the end games like Uncharted 2, Halo, MGS4, etc. demonstrate a dangerous path gaming is taking and its one which is alienating gamerrs like me.
Night trap…gtfo, unless you are gonna tell me you completed that….erm…piece of…software.
@A2K78:
I'm sorry to say if you feel that way. I think you put video games in such a generic term that it doesn't feel the need to change or evolve from it's original style. That's like saying we don't need audio or technicolor because films were all about being "silent" and the story is relayed through subtitles pertaining to the script.
If anything, the 360 is going to that direction, Online gaming and Shooters, the demographic which is the highest this generation. At least the PS3 provides full quality single-player games like inFamous, Rachet and Clank, Uncharted and the like.
But after reading your whole post, I really wonder what type of gamer you are. I'm curious to what type of games are you exactly into? Zelda and Final Fantasy in the very early days proved you can tell a great story and very much have "non-stop" fun, right? Now it's just basically the cinematic version of those games.
Or are you just content with Pong and Space Invaders?
@ Imagi
Just a bit of warning for your "Night trap…gtfo" comment, dont do it.
He is simply voicing his opinion, although i dont quite understand- much like Ricochet -the type of game he is into. the type of games that are like that, more often than not have a very weak or cliche plot. If thats what you like its understandable, (PSN and XBLA games can take care of that quite nicely while providing endless hours of fun) but many gamers like myself who have been playing games since early days truly do enjoy a gripping story… especially one as well told as Uncharted.
I think the endless fun in most cases comes from the multiplayer now, or the replay value of the single player, i.e. collectibles, trophies/achievements.

Yeah I did react a bit over the top, but I cannot quite get what this guy is talking about, does he want games to remain as they were so we would still be playing pong, tempest and pac man in the origional 8bit form? If he does not like the story then ignore it, the game still remains.
The story is an important aspect for the game. I just completed Condemed 2 over the weekend and I thought that game was great, great atmospheric storytelling, really let me get immersed into the game, without the story aspect it would be a forgettable shooting, beat em up.

The first game never caught my interest to be honest. But for some reason uncharted 2 seems to be more interesting to me than the first one.
Last edited by Andysw on 9/7/2009 10:02:58 AM
I actually felt the same way. The first game really didnt interest me in the least.
but when a friend of mine decided to sell his bundled copy to me for cheap (he had already bought the game along with a few others prior to receiving his PS3 as a gift), I couldnt pass up the offer.
Im sure glad i got it from him too as it has easily become one of my favorite games of all time. I damn near had to force myself to put the controller down my first playthrough, and i didnt even feel multiplayer was at all necessary.
@Andysw:
Goes to show how much this game was underrated back then. It was one of the darkest days of the PS3 when this game was released.
This game launches on my birthday 🙂
