We had heard that a release date announcement for Final Fantasy XIII might come during a behind-closed-doors Square-Enix conference at the Tokyo Game Show in a few weeks time.
Well, now it appears as if it's definitely going to happen; i.e., an upgrade from the rumor bin. According to the Unofficial Final Fantasy site , an invite for the FFXIII Premiere Party has supposedly been leaked to the Internet. The event is being held on September 8 at 7 p.m. Japanese time and will run for approximately 2 hours. It seems attendees will be able to play FFXIII and Square-Enix does plan to reveal the price and date of the game; we can easily guess at one, but it's the other that has us on pins and needles. Recently, we learned that GameStop listed the hotly anticipated RPG with a June 21, 2010 US launch date (on shelves on the 22nd) and the popular opinion is that it's not just a placeholder date. Of course, hardcore FF fans will also be looking for news concerning a Final Fantasy VII remake, mostly thanks to a new comment from producer Yoshinori Kitase. That alone should bring extra interest for this FFXIII party event.
Obviously, we'll let you know what leaks out from that private get-together, and we assume the Japanese press will be all over it.

Releasing Exclusively For the PS3 This Fall in Japan!
Would I be wrong to believe it will eventually make its way onto the 360 in Japan?
I doubt it but that doesn't mean it's impossible.
Given Squeenix's track record I am going to agree with "Mr. Vertigo".
Haha, nice Jawk.
Ha
Very few people in Japan will buy FFXIII on the 360 once it is out on the 360… so, no.
Japan is very different than the U.S. Multiplats sell way better on the PS3 than the 360 in Japan. Just look at the sales charts in Japan or the most wanted games charts and you'll see PS3 versions of multiplats all over the place with nary a 360 version in site.
Take my word on this. I've been importing games and systems since the PS2/Saturn days, and I follow the Japanese market as close as I follow the U.S. market.
It is probably not worth ScrewNix's time and effort to release a 360 version just for the few western 360 owners who own Japanese systems because it is those few westerners who I believe buy the bulk of 360-related Japanese products. Don't ever discount the popularity and size of the import scene.
That said, what this generation has taught me is to never say never.
This gen, however, continues to confound me.
Take for instance the JRPG amd shmup scenes, two niche markets over here but still extremely popular in Japan. For the life of me, I still can't figure out why the bulk of these games are being released exlusively — at least most of the JRPGs are making their way over to the PS3 now, some belatedly –on the 360, especially shmups. These bullet hell games, unlike most JRPGs, rarely make it out of Japan; so the argument the western 360 market is bigger doesn't really apply to this genre.
Orvis is right. RE5 sales on the PS3 pretty much destroyed the Xbox version. I expect this to be the same for XIII(if it does go multiplat In Japan) and MGS: Rising.
If they don't announce the Japanese release date on Tokyo Game Show, then I don't know when.
I can imagine a huge surge in Japanese PS3 sales. Japan can easily sell 2 million FFXIII copies. I hope Square Enix will come to it's senses and make more quality games.
They are gonna announce the project is canceled. Square Enix got bought out by Rockstar and now are making Grand Theft Auto: Zanarkand City
lol
Have to admit, you made me laugh quite hard.
Please let it be a Fall release over there. I'm thinking also maybe close to December but towards the middle of November so sales of both PS3 and XIII could rocket. This is what I hope for. Now as for over here in the West (Europe included) there should be a bundle with XIII and a Greatest Hit for say 350. That would mean 120 gb for 300, bundle 120 for 350, and (if true) the 250 at 400. What do you guys think? 😀
I think they would be a great idea, I'm sure the 360 will have something similar since as of late they like to follow Sony's suit.
I thought November/December Holiday aren't a gift season in Japan.
They have a Christmas season in Japan… just not the same as the rest of the world. They do give gifts though.
i can't wait for this game, as well as v13 and ff14, i will be going through sleepless nights just to play those, right now, my hands just on the Demon's Souls.
I'm obsessed with Final Fantasy Crystal Defenders. It's a marvelous tower type strategy game. I suggest anyone that enjoys defense games check out the demo.
Crystal Defenders is pretty damn fun.
The Crystal Defenders demo itself is addictive enough, if I get the full game, I may be in trouble….
i am already addicted with the demo off the PSN. 😀
OH, I see what you did there… as if they might announce a US release date. Nope, never happen, just Japan.
And why are they announcing the price? Watch it cost more to account for the extra 360 porting work.

Booo. If it cost more then $60 I'll wait and get it used.
so what does sony kitaz and wada have in common if they are going to be there for sony conference
I was just having a look on Best Buy's site for pre-orders. Havent pre-ordered Uncharted 2 yet in the hope of a collector's edition….
However I saw that Final Fantasy Versus XIII has a date on it, a December 2009 date.
Of course they might be being optimistic, but there's a date there, and it's a good 6 months earlier than FFXIII. Just sayin'…
The only games I've EVER pre-ordered are Final Fantasy games. There has to be a collector's edition, this game is going to be epic.
ive always been told december release dates are for when the store knows that the game is being released that year but there not sure the date.
it would be much easier and less confusing to but a bloody TBC than the year as the date instead of december, but you know the market they have to make things as difficult as humanly possible.
vsXIII Dec 2009. Weird.
i ment kaz hirai
I still think this game is a myth. It doesn't really exist therefore will never be released.
I wonder if there will be a big Limited Edition tin like with XII. That might be the price they are taking about announcing. I picked up the LE tin for XII. Not sure I'll do that this time. $90 really wasn't worth it.
Sept. 8 isn't the TGS. This is a separate event.
TGS 2009
Start date: Sept. 24, 2009
End date: Sept. 27, 2009
Anyway, I'm betting we'll get GT5's release date and more info on Sony's "good will" UMD program for the PSPGo at TGS.
I'm eager to see how this "goodwill" program works. I want to get a PSP Go! as I travel a lot with my band and would prefer an alternative to carrying around a bag full of UMD's but I'm one of those physical media whores who prefer to have a hard copy if I can in case the data is lost. I have had a few runin's with Sony over some bad downloads on the PSN and don't want to have to depend 100% on the network. While for the most part PSN works great, there have been a few instances where I could not download the content after I made my purchase and had to fight with Sony to get my money back after doing every single thing they asked to try and remedy the problem with no success.
HOPEFULLY, they can provide tons of other information on FFXIII, but I really want as much info on VersusXIII. It's been like a ghost.
