Square-Enix still promises to release Final Fantasy XIII in Japan before 2009 is out, but North American gamers can only guesstimate concerning their 2010 launch.
Previously, we had heard that the localization process might not be so lengthy for this particular title, and we'd get it some time in the spring. But Square-Enix hasn't deigned to offer up a date, which means we're all still floundering about in the dark, hoping we don't have to wait almost a full year. Well, GameStop certainly thinks we won't have to: it's not exactly spring, but it's close, as you can see here . If this date is accurate, it means FFXIII will be on store shelves on June 22, 2010, and there's a good chance this is a bit more than your standard placeholder date. First of all, it's not on the first of the month and secondly, it's mere days after the conclusion of E3…and that'd be some damn good timing. Oh, and you don't normally have to worry about other blockbuster titles to compete against in the month of June, so perhaps Square-Enix is lining this one up nicely for the US market.
We'll have to see if Square-Enix confirms or denies this date at the Tokyo Game Show, which kicks off in less than a month. We anticipate a great number of big announcements at that event…

OMG a real date! I feel like I've been waiting for 5 years… oh yeah
It isn't a real date. They've been wrong before. I call bullllllshit.
Well it's not like we're arguing about the legit-ness of this date truly, we all know it's not the real date.
dam i want it now screw you se
Isn't the EU release earlier than that? :O
Anyway, Demon's Soooooooooooooul for me
I've actually lost interest in this FF
The character designs are so bad, IMO (remember this is MY OPINION). Have never seen such horrible FF character designs ever. Lightning is the only good one I see.
The characters might have a good story, that's the only thing which can save them, for me.
Gotta agree with ur take on the designs. I'm a big fan of the old school mage/magic look. Bring back straw huts!
I disagree with you on the characters for sure. I think they are some of – if not the – best character designs I've seen in FF.
I definitely think Demon's souls is going to be great but I will likely be long done with it by the time this comes out.
Straw "hats"?

NO HUTS, I knew it, I knew someone would think I meant hats. I miss the olden look of villages in my FF games. The more modern and futuristic stuff isn't my exact cup of tea. So ya, I meant huts 🙂
Gotcha, I had to ask. So you are no steampunk fan then. Maybe FFVX will be another return to the old days like FFIX was.
The characters were designed by nomura. How can you call them bad?
So like, yeah. Umm, my memory is shady, when do FF titles usually release? It's hard to believe they wouldn't just sit on their fat asses until xmas in hopes of a bigger sales boost. God I hate waiting on a game I really want from a company that angers me (and I was one of the biggest Square fans of all time back in the day)
Meh, 12 came out nearly 5 years after 10 so I really don't see why people are bitching about the length of development. It's SE first stab at a FF for the PS3 and it's been under 4 years since the last FF. It's not like there aren't other games to enjoy in the mean time.
what I mean is, do they trend toward a season, like GOW is always March ya know.
There was only 3 devs I really bought games from back in the PSOne and PS2 days. SquareSoft, Capcom and Konami. All have disappointed me this gen. Well not so much Konami. MGS4 best game evah! Squeenix and Crapcom on the other hand……
Limited, how do I get all my data transfered from my fat PS3 to my Slim? I tried the back up and restore function. No go. When restoring the data on the Slim it said I can't use a back up file made on one system for another. Am I gonna have to reinstall and redownload everything again the loooooong way?
If that's the case that's gonna blow. Crapcom locks all their save data. KZ2 data is locked too.

Jawk, I didn't have a problem transferring saved game files. As far as PSN content I simply redownloaded everything, it took me a night but when I woke up in the morning it was pretty much all complete. I think you're screwed as far as the Capcom problem unless Highlander comes on here and spews his words of wisdom. I steam all my media from my computer to my PS3 via wireless network (nearly 2TB of love) so I didn't have much media to transfer.
BTW with my first PS3 I had a major save game file issue but treated it as a reason to replay some games.
@jawknee
Yeah, I think the system backup utility is kinda crap when it comes to protected material such as game installs and media, and it prevents you from restoring a backup from one system onto another system.
I think you can still transfer the game saves, but you will need to manually copy the game save files via a USB drive. As long as your user on the new PS3 has the same local profile name and PSN id, your locked game saves will transfer.
As you say though, you'll have to re-download all your downloaded content and re-install. At least your game saves will work, so you don't have to replay the games…I know that's not much help, sorry. Definitely an opportunity for Sony to refine the backup utility.
why dident you just use your old HDD?
im getting a slim once it releases here, and ill use my old HDD that way i dont loose any of my saved date, and the trophies and PSN details should be ready to go.
it should just be plug and play.
theres no way im redoing KZ2 again, elite up to visari that was bloody freaking hard.
the elite trophy and top 1% are all i need for the plat, i was so close last week missed out by 200 XP.
not happy jane!
Ah, there he is!
Well no named person, hate to break it to you but if you stick that HDD in the Slim it's going to automatically re-format =) So either way, you're out of luck

Word. Thanks guys.
So basically it's just short of a year…I'm 19 now…that's like waitng for my 40th birthday…
Well if true then I know what I'll be doing in June in 2010, baring something else that I really want to play doesn't come out in that month.
only 2.5yrs late…
hey i thought this a April 2010 release?
This date would make sense, according to the statement made be Wada the other day. Something allong the line of "The PS3 slim would not have an effect on SE's finnacials until 2010" … So if that is the release date his statement would be true
Nice point. Very…nice…point.
So, just about 5 months short of it's 4th birthday, and only four and a half years into this console generation, Square Enix will finally give birth to the next FF game? Gee, it's been gestating so long, let's hope it's not stillborn.
Wait until Famitsu gives it a bunch of 7s. I seriously hope that doesn't happen, but that's the vibe I'm getting. S-E seems to have lost the magic, in addition to making horrible business decisions.
Well its took its time, lets just hope its worth it, judging from what i've seen so far it shall be.
Though to be honest as bad as Tekken 6, i was expecting that to be released on 1st year of the PS3. but its only just being released now. The game looks absurd anyway, a robot girl who can take off her head, place it in the hands of the oppponent and explode….*sighs*
Fighting games should have died with the early 90s.
Huh? Tekken has always been an over-the-top fighting game. Remember Dr. B? Yeah, you should expect his daughter to be whacky. Also, the move you're talking about is a throw, and throws are easy to escape. That's a silly reason to be "let down" by Tekken 6 BR. Are you one of those guys that plays Tekken for the story? If so, then you're in the wrong genre my friend.
@Limited
Elaborate please.
Tekken used to have a good story, when there was less of a plot, since T4 its gone down hill, becuase they're putting to much story into it. Tekken 2 was the best, That intro clip alone speaks volumes. on T4/5 we got clips with the characters speaking dialouge and it was really cheesy, it ruined all the imagery i had from the previous 3.
but this threads not about Tekken so lets not lose focus of the subject.
I agree, off topic. I disagree with your assessment of Tekken 6, but I'll leave it at that.
I'm so glad they pushed it so far. How the hell can I finish Demon's Souls and White Knight Chronicles? Not to mention I haven't touched Eternal Sonata and Valkyria Chronicles.
PLUS TROPHIES…….

You should pick them up, I'm going through eternal sonata for the second time. I find it under appreciated.
I kind of lost interest with this final fantasy. I feel like the english version has been compromised by the xbox 360 version.
I'm not paying £50 for a game that's been deducted by its xbox counterpart.

Hey Guys remember I work for the good ol' Gamestop, as our computer does state that date, it's more or less a place holder date. We haven't gotten an official statement on it at all, always remember that dates are subject to change, hell Splinter Cell Conviction was scheduled for next month, but it's now sometime next year. Stuff happens.
now is VS XIII releasing at the same time? I haven't heard anything about VS's in a while…did it just fall of the map?
The game is still in development. But square has given most of their attention to final fantasy XIII.
Word is it won't take nearly as long to make as the regular XIII title and plans to launch in 2011, but we all know that means 2013. Especially after localization.
Yeah, Tekken 6 looks pretty good, its a massive upgrade from 5 and I cannot wait. Yeah I thought it was to be release in April, but I suppose some day will suffice. I know the finished XIII game will be amazing, but I just really don't want to wait any longer.
FFXIII was half of the reason I bought a PS3 (the other half being MGS4). There are no other RPGs at the moment that are worth my money "imo" right now. I just want a next gen FF. I guess Dissidia will have to fill the void til June… hopefully.
