There was a time way back during the dawn of gaming when circles and smooth edges simply weren't doable. Even the ball in Pong was square. Even when we were playing Super Mario Bros. years later, it was still just a bunch of tiny squares piled atop one another.
Things have changed since then, but it seems From Software wants to pay homage to the golden age of gaming while at the same time, poking a little fun at it. The picture is just one of several new screenshots for the amusing title, 3D Dot Game Heroes , which The Magic Box labels as an "adventure/RPG." The rest of the description reads-
"The game takes 8-bit sprites and update to 3D in the style of LEGO. The game will have a classic RPG story in which the king has defeated the demon lord and declared that the world should be 3D from now on. However something went wrong in the process and it is up to you to solve the crisis."
This appears to be a downloadable title for the PlayStation Network, although there's no way of knowing; the platform is simply listed as "PlayStation 3." If you can read Japanese, feel free to visit the game's official site , where those giant square pixel-like blocks will return you to a time when that's all we saw. As of now, the game is scheduled to arrive in Japan on November 5 but there's no word yet on whether North America or Europe will see it. Looks like lighthearted fun, though, doesn't it?

Cool.
But at 6,800 yen (about $68) this isn't a PSN title. It better be a full-blown BluRay release for that price. 😉
Sounds interesting
From Software really proved themselves with Demon's Souls, hopefully they keep supporting the PS3 with quality games
I hope it's a psn game, there is just too many full games that i'm going to buy. Whereas if it was on psn then i might be able to slip it in. But it seems like an interesting consept. Lets just hope that the gameplay is as fun as it sound.
I guess you didn't read my post.
The game is listed as 6,800 yen (about $68), very expensive for a PSN game. So, I'm guessing it is a retail release.
more around 72$ actually =P lol
No, i read it. I was just saying that it would be better if it was a psn game. BEcause then i would play it.
LOL.
You can hope all you want, but it still looks like a retail release.
I, however, guess you can hope it ALSO releases on PSN; but I don't know why anyone would want to pay the same price for a download as they do for the retail version and not have a physical product in their hands.
And before anyone writes it will probably be cheaper as a download: Are Warhawk, Socom, or Burnout Paradise City priced cheaper than their retail counterparts?
No!
Everything I've heard about this game focuses on the visual style, which while certainly original is not all that makes a game. I'd like to hear at least *something* about the gameplay and story…
I love the idea. The concept and art style look fantastic. I'm hoping it plays similar to the Link's Awakening or even the first Zelda. All it needs is simple old school combat, and I'm sold.
sure its creative, but the figures look repulsive, this game is better in 2-D.
Is it just me or does 'fromsoftware' seem like japans pixel junk?
PixelJunk is Japan's Pixeljunk.
Speaking of which, on Pixeljunk's page it has a huge advert for TGS 2009. Maybe another announcement, hopefully a release date for Pixeljunk Shooter.
Sweet idea, I'll keep an eye on it.
Kinda reminds me of the Video Game dungeon in Persona 4.
It looks really creative to me. I will be looking out for news on this one.
huh.
the first game i ever played was spyro on the ps1, hey thats why i love insomniac so much.
god i wish i could go work for them.
Off topic much?
ATLUS…… are you there? I hope you're listening!
