For whatever reason, Japan seems to get all the nifty colors for both video game hardware and accessories (do you know how many different PSP colors there are over there?!), and we always wondered why North American gamers don't get the same treatment. What, we don't like color?
We're perfectly happy with classic black, but we'd like to see Sony expand their color palette here in the US. The good news is that it all starts with what is pictured here, the new silver Dual Shock 3. We got our sleek new controller a few days ago and although it goes better with our silver PS2 than our black PS3, it's just the kind of cosmetic makeover we enjoy every now and then. As of right now you can only pick up the "Satin Silver" Dual Shock 3 at GameStop – it will be there exclusively through September – but starting in October, it will pop up at "all retail partners." They're also going to toss in "Deep Red" and "Metallic Blue" at that time, so you'll suddenly have multiple color options for your primary PlayStation accessory. There's really nothing different about these controllers; they still have motion sensing, they still have the rumble, they still can be charged via the USB cable and PS3, and they still have the Bluetooth technology for wireless gameplay. But the point is, we kinda like to have the cosmetic option every now and then, you know?
Now, all we need is a silver PS3 Slim to go with our new controller, and we'll be all set…
Silver's cool. I still want white, yellow and pink though.
hopefully the two new colours will be white and, well maybe clear… but i dont think that would look good! and yey first comment!
is that supposed to make you feel special or something?
comment fail
The article TELLS you what the new colors will be.
And do NOT make entire posts telling everyone whether you were first or second to post. All such waste-of-space comments will be deleted.
Maybe nath08 was just saying that he or she wants white or clear controllers?
Maybe he or she was saying his or her personal opinion on what the next colours (after these) should be released?
Sorry, but while you people assume that nath08 didn't read the article, I want to assume that nath08 was saying his or her personal opinion.
While I'm at it, I want Sony to release a see-through controller with blue or red LED lights.
Or maybe a Gold painted limited edition PS3, with the Gold controller bundled with the PS3.
Or even better, a limited edition controller that is shaped similar to the original PS3 controller design plans?
Man, Sony should hire me because I have a lot of ideas! If only my name wasn't "Wiiplay".
lol you guys r harsh on this guy… obviously, he/she didn't read the article fully, or didn't fully understand it… and what's wrong with an introduction? long or short, he should be welcomed… shouldn't we all entitled 2 one screw up on this site?? anyway that's my 2 cents…
welcome to the site Nath08, enjoy your stay…
"Or even better, a limited edition controller that is shaped similar to the original PS3 controller design plans?"
are we the only ones on earth that want one of thosew awesome looking controllers??? like comeon, DS designs look great and feel great too, but being a revolutionary generation, we should have revolutionary controllers! lol i loved how the controller looked like it fit perfectly in your hands like a car stearing wheel, sony should make a limited number of them, and if yu want 1, write to them, and pay $__.__ for it.

He didn't say this is his first comment (if you look at his profile he's had more then one) he was saying he was the first to comment on this page, an annoying statement made on many articles and such
I don't see any point in buying a controller that doesn't match the colour of the PS3 itself.
Oh and Ben, my local Wal-Mart has these controllers on their shelves.
They are selling it for $54 Canadian.
They only have the silver, no Blue or Red yet.
Well, I'm just going by the press note I got. Maybe it only applies to North America.
Isn't Canada considered North America?
You, sir, are correct. Canada is in North America and Canadiens are Americans. Bolivians and Brazilians are Americans, as well.
What? If Canada isn't a part of North America What the hell is the name of the continent I'm on? It's not South America, Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia, and certanly not Antarctica…
ahha! its funny, when someone says North america, they automatically exclude the most northern part of the american continent… hmm… heck, they even put mexico into its own 'Sub-continental" Central american classification on occasion…
Canada is a part of north america… but the better question is, Where is greenland a part of?? is it north american, or is it european since its owned by denmark??
JESUS. Take it a easy. It was a typo; I meant to say US.
Enough with the 3rd grade geography.
Greenland is an autonomous constituent country within the Kingdom of Denmark. It's physically in North America but politically associated with Europe (obviously). It's also not very green. Iceland is green though.
I was just demonstrating that there are only 7 continents and canada isn't part of any of the other ones…
I kinda like how long my battery lasts in my non-rumble sixaxis. It's too bad you can't get those anymore.
Would turning off the vibration completely in the ps button menu fix that little problem?
Not sure. Maybe I'll try that…
I'll sell sixaxis's for $30 each…
I like the different colors to differentiate the players. Not really necessary but it's easier to keep everything straight. I've had a silver one for over a year already, thanks to the magic of imports.
Or a normal silver PS3 model. I'll be honest, people shouldn't care about the PS3 slim if they already own the original PS3 (for the people that don't, I see a reason why).
There's nothing wrong with the current PS3, so why all the hoohah about the slim? Unless the people that are going all hoohahing, know something, or some feature that the Slim PS3 has, which the original and current model doesn't.
Until then, I should see no hoohahing, especially from owners already owning a PS3.
Well some people get excited when new tech is released for the hobby they love. Also, when this slim gets out there (along with a price drop) more systems should hopefully be sellin and that'll obviously be good for Sony, out favorite gaming company. It's pretty simple really.
Yah, guess so. You're right about that.
I got the Japanese Version. This is really sad. After 3 years they decided to bring the good sh** to America? Oh, not to mention that comparing the Dual Shock three between the American and Japanese version … the Japanese version is slightly more durable and pressing the buttons on it is like heaven.
is there really a difference between American DS3 and Japanese DS3?
i mean i have a Japanese white DS3 cause i couldn't wait back in January 08' and might need to get a new DS3 soon cause it's acting up
Haha, my PS3 is the Silver Edition now Out-of-Stock!
makes you wonder why now of all times we're getting different colour controllers, maybe they're gonna release silver ps3 to go with
And the word on PSXE's Blue PS3 giveaway is?
……..free cookies and milk!
that's been there since i joined this place…
its how i found psxextreme…
[GOOGLE]blue ps3[/GOOGLE]
"Win A Blue Ps3!"
Oh Right on! *click*
lol. That's the exact same way I came to this site. Well it was a red ps3, not blue.
i'm with dlte, i was lured by the hollow promise of a red ps3 as well…
I just got a silver controller, it is too light. It feels like the non-dual shock controllers and yeah, that bugs me a bit.
WANT.
I honestly couldnt care less about the colour of a controll aslong as its not like a 'zap!' lolly pop. I have to black ones, and they satisfy my gaming needs.
I feel sorry for them people who by the blu-ray/dvd movie remotes. why bother when you can just use the PS3 controller
Wait a second. The PS3 remote is friggin' fantastic.
And why is that? waht features does it contain that the PS3 game controller can not do?
The PS3 remote is great because it is convenient and has many one-button touch controls that you cannot achieve on the DS3 or Six Axis without going through a menu. Plus, I got both of mine for free.
For free fair enought but in sotres this cost nearly as much as the Dualshock! and as for te use of one button, all you have to do on the PS3 Dualshock is press triangle to get the option up, you people make it sound difficult, your worse than couch potatoes.
the remote makes PlayTV an awful lot easier to navigate, for starters it has buttons 1-9
Remote £17.99, DS3 controller £39.99, exagerate much? and leaving the controller switched on during a movie drains the battery, whereas 2 AA baterries for the remote lasts months

The PS3 remote retails for 19.99 here in the states. It shouldn't cost any more and that's a shame if it really is that expensive on your island. No one made it seem harder than it is. We know what the triangle does. I merely expressed why I like to use my controller for when I watch movies. Please, don't assume that one is lazy just because one says they enjoy a convenience. Some people like practicality.
They both have the same "features" as you say but if you're watching movies or streaming vids/music it sure makes it more user friendly for the wife and any visitors. Plus the DS stays on for minimum 10 minutes before it powers off so you have to power it up first before even getting to triangle. The remote works immediately and then powers down so the batteries last a veeery long time. It's just a matter of preference really. No need for you to feel bad for me.
silver is good, i will pick one when price drops tho, i have two black rumble ones already.
Instead of colors
What they need to do is fix those HORRENDOUS triggers which break in a matter of months
Seriously, wtf was Sony thinking when they added triggers to the Dualshock *angry face*
okay… if your triggers break within months, what are you doing to them??? i've had my sixaxis since march 08, and its still near mint (hairline cracks on the d pad, and a little crack between the R1, R2 buttons… and my DS3 i had since they came out is MINT… not even a chip out of it..
they are durable buggers, which begs me to ask again, why do yours only last months??
Yeah. What are you doing that is breaking these controllers? Ours are used daily (upstairs and downstairs) and they look to be in very good condition.
Warhawk
Street Fighter IV
^Anyone who has played those two games will tell you how easily it is to break down those poor triggers.
They can withstand FPSs and such, but when you get down to action/fighting games, they're crap. Not the controller itself, but those damn triggers
Off Topic: Anyone notice how annoying infamous can be? I beat it as a good character on normal then as a bad character on hard, but the gameplay is not nearly as fun as Prototype! I wish I could get around FASTER! Sprint up those walls! The graphics in infamous are surely better, but prototype is more fun and you don't run into glitches like infamous. While my Ps3 has frozen once in prototype it froze twice in infamous. And in infamous you run into glitches like running through fences and getting trapped in the semi-destroyed building. Hell, the patsy move in prototype could pretty much sell the game to me, simply because it's hilarious on so many levels. However, there is one move i wish prototype had that infamous does. Surfing on electrified power lines and train tracks.
