If you weren't aware, there's a rumor going around that Steven Spielberg may be pursuing a the long-awaited "Halo" movie, but the Hollywood news – as it relates to the video game industry – doesn't end there.
According to a recent Variety report, there's a good chance that Avalanche Software's Just Cause license may find its way to the big screen. It seems that producer and British publisher Adrian Askarieh has acquired the rights to turn the game into a movie, and let's not forget that he produced "Hitman" and is also involved in Lionsgate's "Kane & Lynch" film. Variety says Askarieh hopes to nail down $30 million in "independent financing" for the "Just Cause" movie, and notes the popularity of "Hitman" (damnit, that movie was popular ?!). Now, on the surface, Just Cause would make for a great film; it's loaded with tons of action, stunts, and there's the potential for unbelievable visuals and overall cinematography. The game itself was decent but couldn't compare to the reigning king of the sandbox style, Grand Theft Auto …but ironically, Take-Two and Rockstar have no intention of giving Hollywood a shot at a GTA movie. We can only hope that Askarieh knows what he's doing, but if all he needs to do to attain high box office sales is to recreate "Hitman," we're gonna lose interest. Fast.
Well, one of these days, they just might surprise us with an awesome movie based on a video game. Really, it could happen. …or not.
I love Just Cause, i like it better then GTA, so much more to do, and the grappling hook is amazing without doubt, and what about parachuting out of cars? This game is awesome.
Wonder how the film would convincingly pull off the the impossible stunts in the game, and where are they going to hide that parachute 😮
haha, good piont. but yeah, i saw the first one in Blockbuster one day, and decided to give it a try, and it was fun. I like the jet hidden on the Military island, or how you can jump from one plane to another, and climb onto boats from a small raft, its a really fun game.
Haven't played the game but if we are talking about impossible stunts I have two words: Transporter movies.
I think DooM was a godd game based movie, i like Hitman the game couldnt stand the movie, it was way too short.
being short wasn't the movie's problem…the lead actor for starters looke like a thirteen year old cancer patient…they should've gotten someone more manly…like Jason Statham…and the plot was crap too…along with a dozen other things…
haha, hey, my dad had leukemia in '97 no joke, but anyways, did it even have a plot?
Doom was awful! They even managed to get The Rock to wrestle on it, The one good part was the FPS mock up later on, i found that visually interesting, but thats all.
Silent Hill has been the only good adaption so far, sure it wasnt as good as the games but it was still very enjoyable and captured the essence of SH, even brought a few new features like the Ash rising revealing the demonic structure, i found that fantastic. I hope they make the 2nd film tie in with the 2nd game with Sean Bean going back to SH to look his wife, god that good.
I was seriously emotionally scarred after watching SH, i was seriously messed up after that movie for about a week, that movie was effed up man. Like the part where there getting torn up by the barbed wire, or the part where they burn the cop.
$30 million isn't really all that much to make a great action movie with anyway.
District 9 has a $30 million budget and it's getting rave reviews…it all comes down to having a good story. In Shoot Em' Up the cg was so so but because the story was so good I was willing to forgive in that department and because of that it's one of my favorite movies…
then i stand corrected, as far as Shootemup goes, when that's the title of the movie you have to give it some leeway in the story department.
The story didn't need any leeway, I'm not too sure what you mean by that. The movie was fantastic…
i thought the resident evil films were good but i have to say i havent played the just cause games so i cant comment on what a film would be like
Never played it, but just cause 2 looks really cool.
Oh, noes. I see bad plot coming, unrealistic stunts and more testosterone than both my nuts combined. Jock Movie!
I dont Know bout you guys, but i liked Hitman.
sure it wasnt like the games, but NO movie based game ever will be.
as long as it has lots of over the top testosterone action it will do good.
the only bad aspect to hitman was the love story.
that turned the guy into a vigilante instead of what he is.,a cold blooded killer……
yea i cant see what was wrong with the hitman movie.
yes the acting was poor it was short but it was full of action thats what i like.
it was much better than transformers 2 and i dont see anyone bagging that.
TF2 was one of the biggest disappointment of this year, the first was brilliant the second sucked donkey balls.
it focused way to much on the humans guess what I DONT GIVE A FLYING %$#% ABOUT THE HUMANS i thought it was called transformers 2 not humans 2.
wheres the massive big epic battle between all the decepticons and autobots?
the last battle was way to small should of been on a much grander scale.
TF2 felt like it was built on a budget where TF felt like it was not, they built it and whatever it costs it costs as long as its good who cares.
thats what i expected from TF2.
