RPG fans were overjoyed when Final Fantasy VII finally came to the PlayStation Network in downloadable form and ever since, those fans have craved more classic role-playing titles from the PS1 days.
Well, there's every possibility that we'll see many more in the future. First of all, the PS1 is arguably the greatest RPG machine in video game history and secondly, developers and publishers have made it clear that they wish to pursue digital re-releases of their formerly popular titles. Capcom has been a big supporter of this already, so it stands to reason that RPG followers have been asking about the Breath of Fire franchise. They started up a thread in the Capcom-Unity forums , just to see if Breath of Fire IV might eventually come to the PSN. This question also indirectly included the game's predecessor, Breath of Fire III , which was also on the PS1. Christian Svensson, President of Strategic Planning & Business Development for Capcom, replied:
"Now, if all you want are PS1 rereleases (which play on PSP and PS3), that's something I'm still working on. Games have to be recleared for IP and middleware usage to see if there's any conflicts. No promises, but they're high on my list."
"High on my list" is a good sign. It seems that more than a few people have been clamoring to get the BoF titles on the PSN, and the good news is that Capcom has been listening. Hopefully, we'll soon be able to tell you that BoFIII and BoFIV are on their way to digital download land for a modest price… Let's hope!
Related Game(s): Breath of Fire III, Breath of Fire IV
Nice. I picked up BOF III on UMD for my PSP, but it came from Europe. This is exactly the kind of thing that PSN should enable. Games from other regions being avail;able globally. All we need now is for more publishers in Japan to add English/Spanish/French subtitles to their games.
Digital distribution and region free PSN shopping FTW!
BRING IT!
'Nother series I wanted to buy in the ps1 days. Did play part III though, great game.
Yeah bring it to the PSN. I had BOF3 for PS1 but it froze at the end and I never finished it :[
I could get the PSP version, but if they release it as PSOne classic it will be PSP and PS3 capable and I am more for that plus a bit cheaper.
bring more PS1 RPGs to PSN for PS3/PSP, i.e. Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross, FF8, FF9, Parasite Eve, Legend of Dragoon, Vagrant Story…
oh yes!
The Chrono series and parasite eve please!
(i have the rest still 🙂 )
Can I add Xenogears to your list please.
im all up for the idea of having those games on psn but hey i have most of them in mint condition still so i wouldnt have to buy again but it would be very very and i mean very interesting if sony tries to add trophies to ps1 classics that would give me a reason to buy the game all over again
I would buy BoF IV, I had it running on my xbox1 but it was wayyyy slow so I never got far.
I played BoFIII way back in the day and actually forgot there was a IV for ps1. I would pick either/both of these up in a heartbeat
Man, BOF games rock but they really need to put Parasite Eve on the PSN. That game was sick, just sick. I'm with ya Lotus.
matter of fact the one game i would love to have on the psn is tactics ogre now that game is what got me into rpgs in the first place and im not sure if its on the psn or not
pleasse be a good price please please.
im trying to save for psp
so i can play the classics on it.
these ps1 claasics look too crappy on a hdtv
I still have the original releases of the five games. Never had the chance to really get into them thanks to all the RPGs that came out at that time. Ah the good 'ole days of the RPG. Such a lost genre lately 🙁 Anyways, it would be nice to re-release these titles for those that missed them. Now if they could just make the music box set, that was released a few years ago, a little more available over here.
now thats what i'm talking about haha..
BOF FTW
Hmmmm…. well I may be the only one who has such a disturbing firey passion for the BOF series my only regret with this series is not being able to play BOF 5 for PS2, I mean how the h e double hockey stick are you gonna bring out 4 of the best rpg's (imo) and then stiff north america on the 5th installment? Thats just like Altered beast hitting the PS2 in Europe and Japan but not NA, retarded Devs, I'll never get the good weed they smoke.
