Another week, and another great addition to the PlayStation Network; this one will appeal to old-school fighting fans everywhere.
On Thursday, you can log on to the Store and pick up Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and if you're wondering why it took so long, bear in mind that Capcom had to produce the boxes for retail. …wait, what? Well, according to Siliconera , the publisher will be releasing a special retail pack of the title, which you'll be able to pick up at your local game store. It doesn't include an actual disc, but it does feature a download code, an 8-page color manual, one-month subscription to Marvel Digital Comics, and 2000 Capcom Unity points. You can grab it all for only $14.99 and it makes us wonder: might there come a time when every retail box only holds a download code and a bunch of extra goodies? Might this be the way places like GameStop continue to be relevant in an increasing age of digital reliance? And if you're wondering, this game should cost the same on the Network, too, so if you take the time to drive down to the store, you'll get all those aforementioned extras for free . You gotta give people incentive to move these days, you know?
So anyway, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 becomes the latest title to be available on the PSN and via retail stores, but perhaps the first to be disc-less in both cases. Interesting.

Damn if I knew this I wouldn't of bought a psn card just for this, I would of just went to gamestop and bought the retail box and the extras
Yeah this is a really nice package. It's too good to pass up.
I used to LOVE playing this game in the arcade. I've been playing IV for the past few weeks. I'll be ready to kick butt online Thursday.
YAWN
100+ hit combos, yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay
CCCCCCCC-ABLE! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Oh right, have this for the Dreamcast since 2000.
Dreamcast version is better than this one.
I was told this is the dreamcast version.

No this one have all unlocked..I find that boring but yeah…at least you gonna have online battle for one of the most unbalanced fighting game ever created.
This is using the DC code version of the game. Too bad all versions of MVC2 are horribly broken and unbalanced.
Why this is regarded by so many as being one of the best fighting games ever is beyond me.
Amen Oyashiro! I still would buy this if I see it at GameStop. Sometimes I'm able to squeeze some fun out of this game, but it's just sad you can't pick your favorite characters and expect to be competitive against certain teams.
I'm happy people agree with me about the balance problem…the online play is going to be terrible and with all unlocked playing this game alone is going to be a less exciting experience for single player mode.
with SF4,Blazblue and Tekken 6 coming I don't have reason for this.

I might get this. You get the game and free goodies for the same price as the download. You can't go wrong. If only you get a code to dowload MvC for the PS1 on the PSP/PS3. then it would be bitchin'.
Any word on a european release Ben?! sadly it sounds unlikely to be released in the UK hopefully Gamestop Ireland will sell this come on its my BIRTHDAY ON THURSDAY!! cut me some slack Gamestop

Still on my 'to buy list' looks like it'll be worth to drive to the store 😛
Driving to McAllen, Texas?
digital game codes sounds like the downfall of gamestop. cause you can't sell a used code for 500% mark up
u areso right on that
I can't wait to pick this up off the store on Thursday! I hate Tuesday and Wednesday! omg they should die.
Ben,
Wouldn't Patapon 2 be the first to hit PSN and retail without a disc (or are you playing with semantics because Patapon 2 came on a UMD)?
I want to get this game but now I'm worried. I purschased that Ratchet & Clank Future Quest for Booty and when I tried to download it, it times out everytime. So Sony took my money but I can't down load the game. It's weird cause everything else downloads fine. Seems like the Ratchet & Clank is the problem. Any ideas fellas?
Have you assigned your PS3 a static IP address and placed it in the DMZ or turned off UPnP on router AND PS3?
I had problems with game updates (games and system updates were fine) and my router would reset in the middle causing a timeout before it could reestablish connection.
download it in the background and it should be able to resume if interupted
The UnPn is not available. And I don't know how to put it in DMZ. I have a mac and don't think I have the right
modem.
The option to download in back ground doesn't appear.
@chucknasty. He didn't say that all of his downloads don't work. Just the one for R&CF:QfB. But as BTNwarrior stated, queue it up for background and it will come over.
Anyone know if this is coming out in Europe as well? I'd like to get it with the box..
If they would have had this on disk, they could have sold it for $60. I would have thought about buying it then. Even at $45 more.
Woohoo! Can't wait to go pick this up!
Extras for no additional cost, just have to drive down there? Sold!
I remember wanting this on the PS2 in 2000, but it sold out so quick and then never restocked. Glad this is finally available again.
guys, Capcom cleared up some problems with the pack. it DOES NOT include the book or Capcom Unity points. ONLY the DL code and the sub for Marvel Comics.
