If you didn't know, Warner Bros. has performed a $49 million takeover of struggling video game publisher Midway, and now, Warner has named the IPs they wish to pursue.
According to Develop , two franchises have been revealed as targets for Warner, and while one likely won't surprise anyone, the other might raise a few eyebrows. After revealing the internal promotion of a new senior vice-president, Warner issued this statement:
"As a result of the Midway acquisition, which includes the Mortal Kombat and SpyHunter franchises, Warner Bros now has access to a greatly expanded catalog of valuable intellectual properties."
You just can't kill MK but we haven't heard about Spy Hunter in quite some time; not since the series enjoyed several successful installments last generation on the PS2. They had even planned a movie adaptation last we had heard, but that may have fallen by the wayside. Warner added that these Midway properties "can be developed and re-released on new games and digital platforms, adapted for film or TV, leveraged for consumer products, or licensed to third parties." There's no knowing when we might next see a product with either "Mortal Kombat" or "Spy Hunter" on the cover, but it's good to know that both franchises will remain intact.
In the past, the internal Midway team responsible for MK said they hoped to retain control over that series but it seems their grip slipped.
Let tha midway team do MK and bring it back old skool with the gore!!!! same gameplay as DC v.s MK(Y) i loved dat game lol
OFF TOPIC: Help me people….i want a PSP but i dunno what i should get..shall i get a 3000?? or wait and get tha PSP GO?
Let the Midway team do an old school Mortal Kombat with 2d graphics? Do you realize how many times they had the chance to do that but didn't? I for one am glad they're gone. They should be ashamed of themselves for running the MK franchise into the ground. I hope the WB can revitalize the franchise and hopefully get a new movie going.
It's really hard to give the pros and cons without owning both. I do own a PSP-3000 and thinks it's awesome. I want a Go! too but I don't want to let the 3000 just sit there. The 3000 series has a larger screen, which is a huge plus for me, it uses UMDs and memory sticks but the Go! will be more sleek and portable. It will be light and fit in your pocket much better than the 3000 would. It depends on what you want out of it. Battery life is rated the same on each too. Good luck with your purchase.
I hope they take MK back to its roots. If Street Fighter can make a comeback as a 2d fighter then MK has a good chance! Never really like it since it went to 3d and now its out of control with over the top moves, different styles of fighting and SO SO fatalities. Would also like to see it more mature in the way of realistic fatalities, bones popping, skin ripping, kind of like GofW 3 when he rips the head of that guy. I also would like to see the return of using real people for its character models. One can only wish huh!?
i didnt mean 2D i mean take it back how it used to be…make it raw and gore make it really over the top like MK should be done
What MK needed to do was what Street Fighter IV did, 3D graphics mixed with 2d gameplay. have to be honest i havent enjoyed a Mortal Kombat game since MK4.
I haven't enjoyed an MK game ever…
I felt cheated with SFIV and I'm glad I got it for 19.99. Otherwise, I'd be a bit more perturbed. A lot of the game looks like they didn't really put as much into as they could have but it's still a fun game. I just think the sketches, character designs, intros, intermissions were pretty average. For an HD quality game, I believe they could have done a lot more with it. Again, this game is fun but nothing really exciting that makes me think "wow".
So you care more 'bout the graphics than the actualy fighting mechanics and character designs?
Seriously, gamers these days are too obsessed with graphics.
SF has never been known for "OMG graphics." It's the fighting that matters in a fighting game. The art/graphic value is only secondary.
In fact, I wonder what kind of HD tv you've got, that game's gorgeous.
I advise you to read psxextreme's review of SFIV and see what they say 'bout the graphics. What truly matters in SF is the artistic value and not much how "real" it looks. Not everything should look like real life. Art is a very important element in gaming. SFIV's got a lot of that

Oh i agree with Street Fighter IV, i couldnt care less for the anime styled story clips, i usually skip them, i just like the gameplay/visuals and general style.
But this is Warner, they want a big audience with lots of cash, I'm a bit scared we will see a PG-13 MK. I don't even remember what Spy Hunter was.
A song by Project 86.
lambo and bugatti in gt
I didn't even know they had Spy Hunter games during the PS2 days. I got really busy and dropped out of gaming for several years. The original, in the arcade and on the NES, were awesome. I know developers don't have the time for it but it'd be great if they started releasing more, updated, HD-quality versions of some of those classics. Spy Hunter, Master Blaster, RC Pro-Am, Commando, etc.
Screw that, just bring back Killer Instinct!!! 😛
My favorite MK is still MK2 after that…it was just ridiculous with the babalities and animalities…friendships were one thing even brutalities were cool but babalities…oooh i turned you into a baby…wtf!
babalities were in MK2
Mortatl Kombat's true demise begins
Poor series, it was one of the best back in the SNES days.
ive said it once twice and ill say it again.
release another mortal kombat deception to reel the fans back in.
than release another shaolin monks game.
both of those would have to be my favorite mortal kombat games.
and bring back the brutalities and enviromental kills.
MK needs its brutality back, the fatalities use to make me piss myself laughing and say thats so effing cool.
than i see the ones in deception and i say is that it?
come on you have to be more creative than that.
if GOW3 can make me piss myself laughing to the point where i fall of my computer chair, ( the helios head rip is still and probably will be the coolest thing ive ever seen in a game) why not mortal kombat?
deception is my favorite MK to date!
i would love to see another monolith game.
they use to be kings at horror games.
condemed was my favorite xbox game.
than FEAR came out and blew me away, than condemed 2 came out and again blew me away.
than fear 2 came out and it felt like i swallowed a live grenade.
boy was that game a disappointment.
except the shotgun battle with that boss, i fell off the chair when i saw that.
now thats the second coolest thing ive ever seen.
games need more of that type of stuff.
wrestling a guys gun to take it off him and accidental blow his head off…… classic!
