The latest rumor is that Sony will reduce the price of the PlayStation 3 and other products "within the PlayStation family" very soon, and the announcement will be made at GamesCom in two weeks time.
But maybe that's just too long to wait. Maybe you've got money burning a hole in your pocket right now, and the list of PS3 exclusives is just too tempting to ignore for another day. Well, you can always turn to Amazon.com, which has just dropped the price of this popular PS3 bundle . It features the 160GB PS3, a copy of the excellent Uncharted: Drake's Fortune , and a voucher to download Pain from the PlayStation Store. This used to cost $499 but the new and more attractive price is $50 cheaper, so perhaps this is an indication of things to come… Maybe brick-and-mortar retailers will begin similar sales soon, which would indicate that a permanent price cut is right around the corner. Either way, we have no idea how long this Amazon sale lasts so if it looks appealing, we strongly suggest leaping aboard now.
We still like to think Sony will package Uncharted 2 with the oft-rumored PS3 Slim for this holiday season. Or maybe they'll include Gran Turismo 5 , which might launch in December. Remember the GT3 PS2 package? Yeah, that thing sold .
are they getting rid of "old stock" in time for the newer, slimer stock?
I heard Sony Discontinued the 80GB model in Japan.Hope slim will come!
Considering that they don't sell the 160GB model there, that has to be pretty much a confirmation of a new model to come.
There's also been news that the cost to produce the PS3 has fallen by 70% since launch. iSuppli originall calculated the cost to build a PS3 (at launch) as a little over $800. But that was just the bill of materials, and didn't include the cost of assembly, packaging or distribution. If you knock that down by 70% you end up with a cost to build somewhere in the region of $250 plus whatever the assembly and distribution overhead costs are. Net result? A price near, or at $299?
Seems like the planets may be aligning for a PS3 slim based on a new more highly integrated chipset and 45nm Cell which produces less heat and uses less energy resulting in a smaller heat sink and fan, and a smaller power supply, all of which combines into the potential for a smaller external casing, and lower cost to build.
In other words a PS3 slim at a new slim price.
Clearing the channel anyone?
Uncharted 1 and 2 and a voucher for the Uncharted dlc and PS3 Slim? Count me in…
Still waiting on Uncharted to get a reduced price. I'm still not sure about this whole slim thing, how long into the PS2's life cycle did they release the slim PS2?
I bought a used, but very good condition, Uncharted copy the other day.
I was put off by the demo and put off getting it until now. Man it is a great game!
I have also heard the 80gig is being discontinued.. our walmart sells the 160gig with unchartered, pain voucher,killzone2,LBP and a blueray movie forget which one for 450 right now so i'm seeing something strange happening.
Slim is coming!
Never understood the appeal of the Uncharted bundle, a slightly bigger hdd and a 2 year old game do not justify the extra $100. Not when you can pick up a 500gb hdd for less than $100. Uncharted is an old game, it can also be found for a few bucks. Sony is going about it all wrong, by "preaching more value" and just adding bigger memory. They should just sell a 20gb ps3 for $299.99 and let customers decide if they need more storage on their own since the hdd is easily upgradeable. You can send my check in the mail Sony
I'm really not sure what to think, at first i thought it was going to happen 100% but then worldendswithme reminded me that the ps2 didn't have a slim for a wile. But maybe the new ps3 slim will be cheaper for sony to make than the bulkyer ps3. So they are doing this so they will be able to drop the price. But i hope the ps3 slim is real.
lmao if youve got money burning in your pocket send it to me 😀
ive got money burning proof pockets if that makes any seance.
price cut may be.
ps3 slim doubt it they just announced a new SKU for the PSP.
I don't see why Sony can't have 2 or even 3 themed bundles. Ala Uncharted 2, or GT5, or even a more kid friendly game…EyePet, or one of the Ratchet series. Target all age ranges, equally.
Uncharted's going to sell, that's certain, R&C always does a respectable amount of business. But, I think the ace in the hole here is GT5 (sorry Uncharted fans hehe…good game tho), it's proven to be a huge seller across the board. They just need to make certain they're advertising the hell out of it. Can't wait for the 18th!
I wouldn't count on the PAIN download code since it probably has expired by now if this is the same bundle that was released late last or early this year – amazon specified the expiration date on the product page the last time that I checked it. Sony expires codes 90 days (or so) after a bundle is released and Playstation Network customer service's attitude will be "tough luck" if you try to redeem the expired code.
Uncharted is the only bonus in the bundle that a buyer should count on.
