GameStop Plans New Rewards System

So how many of you have an Edge card for GameStop? You know, the one that gets you a subscription to Game Informer and additional money for pre-owned products…? A lot of you do, we're sure.

Well, GameStop is asking their customers to see how they might respond to a new rewards system and it seems a few surveys have been popping up around the Internet. There is mention of a "GameStop Elite" program that offers all sorts of savings and potential goodies for the price of $15. Right now, there seem to be two separate versions of the possible new rewards systems, and you can view them both over at Joystiq . Version 1 says it'll be FREE to join; all it requires is your e-mail address and you can begin "leveling up;" membership grants you access to sneak previews of hot titles, 3-day trials for pre-owned games and more. More incentives include birthday deals, discounted strategy guides, "power trades" (permanent 20% or 25% increase in bonus trade-in credit), $5 shipping on new titles (same-day release), and "guaranteed access" to exclusive in-game items and weapons. Many have taken GameStop to task in the past for not giving an appropriate amount of money in trade, and while the Edge card does help, it seems the customers want more.

Well, you can't fault GameStop for trying. If you've had the chance to fill out one of these new surveys, feel free to let us know what questions were asked, and what you would like to see from a new rewards program.

Is that magazine not called Game Mis-Informer?

I LOL'd recently as someone wrote in quite correctly pointing out that the writing and editorial policy of Game Informer was somewhat biased towards Xbox 360 and more than a little against the PS3.

Naturally, rather than addressing the points raised, their letters editor spewed fanboy allegations at the person who wrote in. Ironic considering the level of bias they display routinely. Even my wife has noticed it and she merely skims the magazine since she hates all of the shooter/action/horror crap for the 360 that they review/preview. "They never review anything I like!" according to her, it's kinda hard not to agree.

Yes, I'll be sure to renew my loyalty program membership so I can get that source of unbiased and timely game news….

😉

My gamestop has actually cooled out a little, though it is funny how they try to cram all the PS3 titles into a smaller space by setting them up sideways so the 360 section looks bigger.

I don't shop there enough to make this worthwhile though, but the next time I go back I don't look forward to them trying to sell this to me.

It asked me stuff like my age, household members, household annual income, etc.

I wouldn't mind, I spend tons of money there, at the least 1000$ a year.

I participated in that survey and it was stupid. It proved that gamestop is biased. When i got to the section about where i shop for games at,( not gamestop thats for sure) all of a sudden my opinion doesnt matter. rather then asking why i dont shop there my survey was DQ'd and i was sent to the gamestop webpage. I guess that was some feeble attempt to get me to buy something there.

dont you have to pay for the edge card already?
ive paid 15 each time i renewed mine beginning of this year and last.
and all it gives you is 5% off preowned games and 5% extra trade in credit.
but you get early access to sales, thats the only reason im keeping it.
o and for the comps, i finally figured what the code was for the wolfenstiene PC but sadly dident win 🙁

10% off used games, not 5%.

You can stack the 10% with GS' B2G1 sales or their coupons. I currently have a 25% coupon, so I've been getting 35% off used games this week.

It's all about when you use your Edge card.

They'd probably be biased in their reward program, favoring the xbox. I use gamestop mainly when I don't want to wait for an internet purchase to arrive. I don't hate gamestop, I just don't have any reason to go out of my way to give them my business for every game I buy. And a rewards program will probably consist of a lot of crap that won't interest most people.

Amazon, free shipping, pre-order….and in some states no sales tax…can't be a bad thing.

Yeah, I definitely like Amazon. I ordered my daughter's psp from them and the post office lost it. When I contacted them through email, they replied in less than 24 hours and sent out another one the next day. I didn't insure the package, but I've spent alot of money with them, so they didn't give me any problems. I have the utmost respect for companies who treat their customers this way.

Yeah, I had an edge card for awhile. It's surprisingly worth it when you frequent gamestop. Trading and saving and buying get you just a bit more with that card. The shop I go to know not to try and push timebomb rubbish on me like they do everyone else. A weapon that flings cats? Awesome! Great Idea.

I have a edgecard got it free with the purchase of 2 used ps2 games the other month i use it sometimes but not often.

Wonder if the "REWARDS" system they are speaking of will come to Canada.

Nerull

Doubtful, just look how far behind their website for canada is compared to the US, just another reason I only buy from GS when its by far the most convenient.

I rarely go to Gamestop as they tend to be more expensive than the other stores. I have probably gotten about five games there since I bought my first PS3 in '07. If they would price their games competitively, they'd probably do better. What am I saying? Most people that shop there don't care about saving money. Otherwise, they wouldn't shop there.
