Original Call Of Duty Heads Onto PSN, XBLA “Eventually”

You may recall the unveiling of that fancy Prestige Edition – night-vision goggles included – of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 , and many were also interested in that voucher to download the original Call of Duty from the Network and Xbox Live.

However, the very next question likely was, "well, what if I don't want either the Hardened or Prestige editions? Will the original CoD still be available for me to download for a price?" Well, according to IGN , the answer is "yes," but you'll have to wait a while. Infinity Ward Community Manager Robert Bowling said it would become available to everyone at some point.

"Prestige and Hardened Edition buyers will be getting access to Call of Duty: Classic first. It'll eventually be coming out for both Xbox Live Arcade and PSN as a stand-alone arcade game. However, price and release date are unknown at this point. It's the true original Call of Duty including full multiplayer."

Obviously, Activision will want to keep this option away from gamers until they've had a chance to consider the special editions of Modern Warfare 2 . Perhaps the original Call of Duty will be an option for everyone some time just before Christmas. We have no idea how it might be priced, but it might fall in at the standard $14.99 mark; a mark typically reserved for "fuller" games. We'll let you know when any concrete details are announced.

Yea I probably wouldn't even play it if I did buy it. There are just too many good games coming out for me to waste time on one that I played a very long time ago.

Heh, well, to be fair, it's still installed on my PC, and I play it right along side W@W. But you're right, it gets far less mileage out of me, than it once did. But…I used to be able to conquer the game with a pistol and bolt-action alone on Veteran! w00t!

It might not be game of the year, don't forget about Uncharted 2, and GT 5 could possibly be coming out this year.

Actually, no, you can't, because it was never released on either the PS2 or the Xbox. You might be thinking of Call of Duty: Finest Hour, which is based on the first game but completely different from it (and which was released on all three systems).

OK then I can get Finest Hour for less then 14.99. It must be a PC game and I'm not a PC gamer.

and apparently they canned the hardened edition.
so if you want that code you need the prestige edition get ready to shell out.
240 AUD, now thats a bloody rip off.
why the hell are we paying $90 more than the US?
last time i checked 150UDS does not equal 240AUD.
we have to wait longer for the games.
we miss out on half the stuff.
and now were paying more to.
where does it end?
