October is going to be downright huge for PlayStation 3 owners; not only are we getting Uncharted 2: Among Thieves on October 13, but exactly one week before, we'll receive the long-anticipated RPG, Demon's Souls .
Revered by many as being one of the finest RPGs of the generation and indeed, of all time, Demon's Souls is the first epic PS3-exclusive RPG of immense size, scope and grandeur. Atlus will be distributing the game in North America and if you haven't rounded up enough information just yet, head on over to the official website , which just launched. There, you will find an excellent trailer, new screens and media, and some news; you can also visit a makeshift blog in Atlus' forums and even purchase the title if you wish. Remember, that attractive Collectors Edition sports a 150+ page strategy guide (which will not be available to purchase separately) and a collectible slipcase. We keep hearing great things about this title, although we have also heard that it will definitely test your mettle; many sources have called it one of the most difficult games in recent memory. But role-playing fans should appreciate that, as they often go in for enhanced depth and intricacy, anyway.
So mark your calendars, RPG fans: October 6 is the day. But also that month, we will have the option of playing Alpha Protocol and Dragon Age: Origins , so you may have some tough decisions to make… There is no "decision" concerning Uncharted 2 , though. If you don't buy it, we'll hit you over the head with a mallet or something.
Just looked at the trailer on the site, hmmm i dunno, it just seems to lack charisma. though the creatures to look impressive.
LOL Charisma? This game is a straight dungeon crawler similar to Diablo or Champions of Norrath. No words needed.
Are u trying to be the most hated commenter on the site?
I just like to play a game with interesting characters. It doesnt seem like a bad game, just doesnt appeal much to me. But i will say this, That song on the trailer made my ears bleed, it really was painful to listen to.
I can respect that. Good to know you're not trying.
I found the music appropriate; it matched the intensity and darkness. Reminded me of that song in FF8 with the choir that played whenever the sorceress showed up.

The style of it is correct, a choir is suitable, though it was just badly done, the first part was good but after the title is shown is barbaric.
Certainly no match for Nobuo Uematsu. You actually just reminded me how indimitating Edea's choir is on FF8, before the final battle on Disc 2 of FF8 the choir sounds really warped. I feel like playing that now.
I'm pretty sure you create your own character. Thats probably why the characters don't seem all that interesting.
You welcome, Ultima. Good gaming. 😉
FF8 FTW

Trust me the game has lots of charisma once you actually play it, its one of the few games I've beaten more than twice and could possibly be my first platinum. Sorry for the long post ahead but read on if your interested about Demon's Souls
The charisma is in the worlds you go to, and each section of the worlds.. you have one world that is known as the valley of defilement; there's nothing but poison and gloom it's dark and has a feeling of hopelessness it's dark and swampy. once you finish it you'll have to wonder to yourself what the valley was before the fog, beautiful skies, a river, people…
then you have the kingdom level (Boletaria Palace) that is full of evil guards and ministers, and has a semblance of loss, of what the kingdom was before the demons fog had devoured it. with 2 dragons that continually stalk you, letting you know that your in their territory and they'll burn you to a crisp and thinking nothing of it
then there's the prison level (The Tower of Latria) where you hear creepy moans from the few inmates that have gone insane from the long imprisonment, the eerie sound of bells jingling from the cthulu guards that will surely kill you at first sight if your not cautious and when you are forcefully "advanced" to the next part of the prison level you'll be in a tower level where you must always watch your step cause if you don't you'll plummet to your death, and watch the black skies for the flying demons that will play tricks with you and finally attack…this level is the scariest imo
and that's just three levels, imagine what the other two are like..blood stains everywhere from other players deaths…messages warning you of impending danger…or are they tricks; you decide
and then add the co op, blue phantoms coming to your aid as long as you summon them…feel the camaraderie as you defeat enemies or bosses or maybe the red phantom(pvp player) that has invaded your world
..so think about it before you say this game has no charisma 😉

Actually Oyashiro, Thats a ery intersting point with modern RPG's, Its something i noticed with Fallout 3. While i love the game, Its hugely interactive and the story is very intersting. The lead character itself doesnt really have much of a defining personality. sure you can make decisions when replying to people or changes by the way you choose to go on a mission, but in a way the character itself is missing somthing. Is it better to have the lead character scripted in the story or left up for the player to design and make the decisions for.
I certainly wouldnt want to play a Final Fantasy game in control of the lead character in the manner of Fallout.
I fully agree with Ultimadream on that I find that while games like Fallout can be fun in their own right they don't grip me the same way a scripted character can.
I just don't care about the character if I am the one who has to decide their personality.
And if I don't care about the character then I feel less compelled to see what happens to them.
That said it's the gameplay and atmosphere I am looking forward to in Demon's Souls so I'm not buying it for the same things I usually look for in an rpg
I think we have to be open-minded
Just because it's not a regular story-filled jrpg doesn't mean it's a bad game.
This game is more 'bout World Exploration-rpg than a regular jrpg. Within that there probably are story bits and a visible satisfaction value when it comes to 'bettering' the world in Demon's Soul. I will try to make a character like Balthier 😛 and one like Fran if that's possible 😛
Should be a fun game.
PS: I prefer story-filled rpgs, but I think this Demon's Soul is strong enough to stand on its own without a linear story.
Can't wait for this game.
And no Ben, not the mallet!

i gotta preorder the collectors edition
i imported it from china and its amazing. the online features add so much to the game. you can read peoples hints and see how they die. plus you can force yourself into some other players world and steal there souls. its easily one one of the best games I've played this year.
I was interested in this game until I read your comment. Dear lord you make it sound awful!
Preordered the Deluxe edition.. they also just yesterday announced pre-orders come with a soundtrack (altough it sounds like some people here will have zero interest in that lol) along with the artbook.
So whats all this about Uncharted something or other?.. I think I need to start wearing a helmet.
cant wait to get this!!
I really want this game, but why does it have to come out in October!? There are enough games during that month!
This article is what I need to convince myself to buy this game. I don't mind if the game is difficult, just bring it on!!
I don't know which one to choose.
This game or Dragon Age: Origins???
May end up getting both!!!
This game was a blast. If you are getting this game one piece of advice, stick with it, don't get frusterated because you are going to die a lot.
And on your first play through, play by yourself. Way better that way.
I'm not getting this. It sounds like the Ninja Gaiden of RPGs. I've got better things to do than get frustrated. Of course said frustration might lead to my needing a new metallic blue dualshock3 so not all would be lost…
Huu? you are afraid? okay dont play this or ninja gaiden those are the macho man games
🙂 ya earlier than expect,my husband and I are really excited. This game looks great.
Will so get it!
This > Fallout 3
Real environments (probably more lush and ladnscapy) and the overall play of swords and badass acient weapons is better than slow-motion guns, imo.
This game is pleasing so far to read about. This or Tekken 6?
I may be busy still, so if I don't have the cash itll go on the xmas list.
i hv always been playing RPGs with scripted characters, never played any open world RPG or with someone you can totally design from bottom up, and I never liked those (hence never liked Oblivion, Fables etc..)
however, I would like to give it a try with Demon's Souls, cuz I sensed something very special and different in this game and it might be the most unique JRPG of this gen. it is just one of a kind and I love the unbelievably hard difficulty level, that alone got me hooked.

uh, yeah there ain't no decision when it comes to uncharted 2…because im choosing Demons Souls by a LONG shot. looks so much better.
Most likely a purchase, now that I visited the game's website.
October is going to be an expensive month.
True that…..
