PaRappa Developer Returning To PlayStation Family?

He was the creator of what is arguably the first music-based video game ever in PaRappa the Rapper , but most people haven't heard of the name Masaya Matsuura.

This is primarily because after Vib-Ripple in 2004, he hasn't gone anywhere near a PlayStation platform, choosing instead to make games for Nintendo. His most recent title is Major Minor's Majestic March for the Wii, but according to a recent interview with Edge-Online , Matsuura is contemplating returning to Sony. In fact, he says that the PS3 is the console he'd "most like to explore" right now, as it "has a very high potential to appeal to the market." He also points out one of our favorite PS3 creations thus far; thatgamecompany's Flower , which Matsuura is most impressed with. He says that game "requires a very high level of knowledge, experience and ambition to work on," and as a result, he thinks that maybe "these kind of things are required for PlayStation." Matsuura also says he wants Sony to become more aggressive in the industry; otherwise, independent developers like himself and Jenova Chen ( Flower mastermind) may find things difficult in the future.

Well, Chen has just recently stated that he is very happy with thatgamecompany's relationship with Sony, so if Matsuura has a chat with him, that may open the door to the PaRappa creator's return to PlayStation.

Now that's something we can all dig!

Parappa was the original, that game had some real groove and just fun overall. Playstation1 was such an experiment, it was a console to let your mind go wild. Sure it had limitations, but it never limited the developer's minds.

Anyway would be good to see what he comes up with. Hope it's music related, but anything would be fun.

PS: So good to see Japanese companies coming together around the ps3. It's the console of the future.

exactly.

I don't think Sony needs to be more aggressive, you should have no boundaries when creating the vision you see and for Sony to recognise this and allow people to experiment (like you pointed out the fact that PS1 was an experiment) because that is whats lacking in any industry and i applaud Sony computer ent. for always breaking the mould and for giving the biggest thing to give any artist…FREEDOM.

i second that sony needs to be much more aggressive and demanding on developers.
freedom is one thing, but you have to draw the line somewhere and say im boss you have to do what i say.
