Who says downloadable titles can't be immensely popular? Who says they can't bring in big profit? The more they make and the better they get, the more popular they will become; plain and simple.
Just look at the success of Battlefield 1943 , one of the latest and greatest gems on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace. EA has announced that DICE's excellent production is now the fastest-selling Day One and Week One downloadable title ever, on both the PS3 and Xbox 360. Since it launched back on July 8, over 600,000 people have forked over the $14.99 to participate in major skirmishes on Wake Island, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Coral Sea (recently unlocked by the community, which needed to hit 43 million kills). And if for whatever reason you're still not convinced, you can always try out the free 30-minute trial on the PSN or XBL Marketplace; the trial returned on July 18. On the surface, this may appear like nothing more than "just another FPS," but the depth and diversity of this downloadable game can't be denied. It looks absolutely fantastic, the action is almost always fast and entertaining, and it's great for those who have had fun with titles like Warhawk in the past. Battlefield 1943 is the perfect example of a cheap game that's well worth the expense; you could quite literally play this one forever.
Of course, many are anxiously awaiting Battlefield: Bad Company 2 , set to launch later this year (hopefully). That too should be awesome and well worth the $60 but for only $15, you can get a taste of DICE's considerable development ability now .

Awesome, I remember reading somewhere that the guys at dice would only support this game after launch if it became popular.
Well it's popular now so maybe we will get some new maps in the future.
I got all of my friends to buy this one and it feels like a retailed game. It is very addicting. If COD WAW was so open like this, it would be even more crazier!
I played the demo, and I just couldn't get into to it. Its more or less like a FPS version of Warhawk, but not nearly as easy to jump into.
Ya….warhawk is better.
Agreed. Warhawk is better.
What can I say 15 bucks for a battlefield game, who wasn't going to buy it.
It looks like a 60 dollar game.
Somewhat offtopic but you gotta love how the Inglourious Basterds ad at the top here is co-sponsored by Wolfenstein 🙂
All I ever see are those Evony boobs.. Start your journey now my lord….
Hitch up your packs boys! We're crossing Silicone Valley and climbing the Twin Peaks!
Anyways, back on topic….
Called it. We are looking at a great developer in the making.
Well worth the $15. Only thing plane taking a little to get used to. I'm surprised that many people bought this game. With this recession were in those $15 give you many hours to play at home instead of spending money elsewhere. Hopefully new buyers come on when BBC 2 comes out this winter.

awesome game but needs more maps based on ground warfare, was kinda disappointed in the coral map being air based
Very good game, just a shame that the comms ruin it for something that is supposed to be a team based 🙁
Whilst in the lobby, you can chat fine. 2 mins into the game though all comms disappear until you go back into the lobby.
Have had none of the "disconnects" that others have been complaining about though.
agreed, I really hope they fix the mix issue…

Yeah. nice one. I may even prefer it to Bad Company. Seems to have less lag. Though I have been suddenly logged out a few times.
yeh it does have a lot less lag though the mics still dont work properly 🙁
even more reason for sony to hurry up and bring back ps2 support for the ps3.
theres heaps of ps2 games i want to replay or play for the first time.
i still havent played god of war, or the orginal devil may cry.
and im in the mood for some ratchet and clank up your arsenal, that was the best one of the series, i hope they bring back the rhino 3 back to its original glory the one in FT is far to weak.
yeh i think it does derserve its praise beczo its a really good game for 10 quid (15 dollars)
Its ok, I am sticking with KZ2 for my FPS action for now… saving up for other AAA games around the corner 🙂

meh. just another FPS as far as I'm concerned 😉 Pretty much any FPS is just another FPS no matter how dressed up it is.
I have always loved the WWII theme for FPS. BF1943 IS the game for me. I wish they didn't change the classes and I hope they add maps from the european theatre… a d-day map would be very fun indeed.
Though one thing I think they could add is flame throwers as they were an integral part of american firepower in the war in the Pacific.
I LOVE this game. It is a perfect mix of fun and current generation quality graphics. I have played 1942 a lot and whatever people can say, not enough classes or less options than the original, 1943 was made to have fun and to me it's all that counts.
I just love to have that kind of quality game for 15$. More maps is definitely the way to go from here given the user base. I'll even pay for them!
For 15 bucks, It's a lot of fun, I just get frustrated because I can't do a head shot to save my life. In a run and gun battle, I always lose. But that's my problem with FPS' online. There are so many people out there that all they play is FPS, so When I get in there and play I spend the first few matches spawning and dying. And for some reason I have an ugly habit of spawning in front of enemy tanks.
The other problem I have is unless you are part of a clan, no one talks to each other. Instead of working together, they all go their seperate ways..lol, and I die.
But I persevere. After awhile it becomes fun, there's been very few times that I've sat at the top of the kill list, but as long as I'm not on the bottom, I'm a happy fragger.
I hear you brother… I can only do a head shot if the enemy is still for at least a second! And when does that happen?
Some of the PS3 players have been on for 5 days! Which is impressive since it's only been out for 15!
But like you I find it is fun!
Yeah, I've only spent a few hours on it so far, but I'm having fun. I even managed to take down a tank with charges last time…but as I was running away they spotted me so I had to blow the charges and kill myself at the same time…but it worked out. 1 suicide, plus 2 kills and 1 destroyed vehicle? I get points..to bad I was also Collateral Damage..lol. That's the cost of War I guess.
The last time I played the mic would cut out while playing with 3 buddies. Have they fixed that yet?
Anyone else tired of WWII shooters?
Not really. But if i was, id just skip playing them. …
hows that 4 a solution 🙂

According to Kotaku's site, the worldwide community challenge to unlock the Coral Sea map began on Friday, July 10 at 19:43 CET.
The Xbox LIVE community reached the goal of 43 million kills in just 5 days.
And the PlayStation community hit the 43 million kill mark in only 8 days.
Van Dyke also said that the popularity of the community unlock has him thinking about including something similar in "Bad Company 2" too.
