There are plenty of game-based films supposedly on the horizon – "Bioshock," another "Hitman," the third "Mortal Kombat," etc. – but perhaps the most promising is Jerry Bruckheimer's "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time."
Although we've seen paparazzi pics of Jake Gyllenhaal in the lead role, this here is the first official shot from the movie, as shown over at EW.com . The action extravaganza is slated to arrive in theaters on May 28, 2010 and Gyllenhaal seems to enjoy the flashy, fun atmosphere: "I'm tired of taking myself so seriously," he said. "It's nice when a stuntman turns to you and is like, 'Actors don't normally do this.'" It seems Jake has been scaling walls, sword-fighting, and performing a variety of other tough stunts all on his own, which should at least lend another level of authenticity to the movie. Of course, these days, you'd be hard-pressed to find those sneaky stuntmen who take the place of the valuable leading men in slam-bang action flicks. Anyway, if you want to see more exclusive first looks at "Prince of Persia," feel free to pick up the latest edition of Entertainment Weekly, which is currently available on newsstands now. With a good cast and Bruckheimer in charge, we'd like to think that this movie could deliver what it promises; fans of this critically acclaimed franchise certainly deserve a good big-screen effort. I guess all we can ask at this point is, "please, don't mess it up too badly."
But does anyone else hold out some sort of irrational believe that the third MK might be halfway decent? …or is it just the nostalgia from the semi-entertaining original film kicking in?
