Activision: Wolfenstein Set For “Week Of August 17”

Many expected 2009 releases have been delayed until next year, but thankfully, Raven Software's Wolfenstein won't suffer from such a drastic delay.

Activision has revealed to Joystiq that the Nazi-laden WWII shooter is now scheduled to launch during the "week of August 17." The publisher's explanation for the delay is so they can "facilitate a simultaneous global release window," which understandable and probably a good move. We've had our eye on Wolfenstein ever since we heard about its development; personally, Return to Castle Wolfenstein was one of my favorite games back in 2004. I can't wait for another go-'round with B.J. Blazkowicz, even if the game isn't getting a whole lot of publicity. I'm hoping we'll get a playable demo at some point, which will definitely go a long way towards solidifying a purchase decision. The FPS genre is immensely competitive in this generation and if you wish to survive, you had best be stellar in just about every respect…we have plenty of faith in Raven, but can they produce a shooter that's well worth the $60 price of admission? Well, the good news is that there isn't a heck of a lot going on in mid-August besides Madden NFL 10 , and that may be targeting a different demographic. There is Batman: Arkham Asylum to think about, though…

Anyway, keep an eye out for Wolfenstein next month, and let's all cross our fingers for a top-quality FPS. Nazis, freaky monsters, crazy weapons, non-stop action; how bad could it possibly be ?
