Many expected 2009 releases have been delayed until next year, but thankfully, Raven Software's Wolfenstein won't suffer from such a drastic delay.
Activision has revealed to Joystiq that the Nazi-laden WWII shooter is now scheduled to launch during the "week of August 17." The publisher's explanation for the delay is so they can "facilitate a simultaneous global release window," which understandable and probably a good move. We've had our eye on Wolfenstein ever since we heard about its development; personally, Return to Castle Wolfenstein was one of my favorite games back in 2004. I can't wait for another go-'round with B.J. Blazkowicz, even if the game isn't getting a whole lot of publicity. I'm hoping we'll get a playable demo at some point, which will definitely go a long way towards solidifying a purchase decision. The FPS genre is immensely competitive in this generation and if you wish to survive, you had best be stellar in just about every respect…we have plenty of faith in Raven, but can they produce a shooter that's well worth the $60 price of admission? Well, the good news is that there isn't a heck of a lot going on in mid-August besides Madden NFL 10 , and that may be targeting a different demographic. There is Batman: Arkham Asylum to think about, though…
Anyway, keep an eye out for Wolfenstein next month, and let's all cross our fingers for a top-quality FPS. Nazis, freaky monsters, crazy weapons, non-stop action; how bad could it possibly be ?

Sweet. I actually played Return to Castle Wolfenstien on PC back when it came out(not sure if it was a console game as well), and it was the first time I played an online multiplayer game. Needless to say, it was a blast. I have high hopes for this one. It'll put me in the Nazi-killin mindframe just in time for Inglorious Basterds.

You asked the right question. Is it worth $60? I personally do not think so. I will pass on this while keeping a keen eye on whether or not Batman AA is worth $60.
im not sure if this is a 1st day buy or not!
part of me wants to buy it on day 1 based on the name alone.
at this time my only concern is the length of the game,i hope is at least as long as fear2.
also co-op would be very nice.
Sad to say it will probably be a pass or bargain bin down the line, there's too much FPS, even if it turns out fantastic.
Even if it is Wolfenstein it's still a WII FPS so why isn't anyone b*tching about it as they did with COD:W.A.W??
And personally I think they will really have to deliver something really mind blowing to make a mark on this years FPS scene, that is firstly very overcrowded and secondly has two very huge titles to compete with #1 Killzone 2 and 2# Modern Warfare 2 (even thou it still has to be released but still).
I will give this one a skip and might just rent it…
because its completly different to W@W that was a WW2 shooter with WW2 guns and WW2 areas.
this is a game based in WW2 but has a scfi supernatural twist.
with modern weapons and something called the veil, thats looking extremly cool.
Nobody's bitchin because there was no "Wolfenstein: Modern Warfare" to set the bar. Plus the new Wolfenstein has cooler R&C type weapons.
I'll pass on this one… just looking at the AAA exclusives at the mo… and being very frugal with money.
Q!
"i am home"
another game delayed?
wow dident see that coming 😀
DAM looks like another preorder i have to cancel tomorrow and i really wanted this.
im going away 4 days before it comes out for 6 weeks for work so by the time im back uncharted 2 and friends will be out.
another activision game im going to miss out on 😀
koller im really worried.
I am not too sure about this one… Rental first I think. I love wolfenstein, but after wolverines graphical glitches, I am not too sure about Raven's software.
In regards to Batman AA, I hope that the stealth and puzzle solving are better than the fighting. I hate that is a single button pusher in the demo, hopefully that will change in the final release, the repeated hitting of the same button to hit an opponent got old just playing the demo. I want options on what attack I am going to throw. You do not know if it is a hook, a jab, an uppercut or even a kick…
I really want Batman AA, but I need to be sure it is worth the cash. I have 2 more games for this year in my budget, and Uncharted 2 and The Beatles Rockband are the top contenders…
Okay so just because Wolfenstein has modern guns and aliens in a WWII setting that makes it okay… Fine I guess… I still won't buy it I'll just rent it…
But if I turn out to be wrong about this one I will let you know.
But if it has more R&C type weapons then it could be a lot of fun I guess. But will that be enough to make it stand out above the other FPS that's out already and will be releases soon?
I dunno I'd rather rent it first and see it for myself, rather than to run out and buy it just because it's Wolfenstein.
