As most of you know, Hollywood is preparing a film adaptation of the original God of War , which we all hope will be halfway decent. If it sucks, it'll be a huge black mark on that franchise's nearly flawless reputation.
Anyway, according to CinemaBlend , an entertainment reporter has actually read the script and while he says it "almost slavishly" follows the storyline in the game, the ending is actually different .
God of War Game and Movie SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
We'd like to assume that all of you have played the game by now but if not, that warning is there for you. So now that we've covered our asses: the final battle is between Kratos and Ares, and not surprisingly, Kratos emerges victorious. He is then offered the mantle of "God of War" and he accepts it, which of course leads to more problems in the sequel. But in the movie, it seems Kratos declines the crown and tosses himself off a cliff and just before he slams into the rocks below, he says, "Your turn, Hades…" And that's the end of the movie.
We can't really decide whether this is good or bad, but we're not about to struggle with it. The bottom line is that if the movie is good, we kinda don't care how it ends; we just hope to the God of War and every other God out there that it kicks ass the way it should . Could this be the first example of a great game series spawning a great movie series…? Or is that too much to hope for?
Too much to hope for. Nuff said.
Well i say it is going to be a great movie especialy if it gives the viewers somthing diffrent from the game.
I thought the movie was just a rumor nonetheless they should use Terrence Carson for his voice even if he's not playing the part.
You mean the movie wasn't canned? It's still a go? Bah, this is going to be awful.
With that new ending,
I smell "sequel" before the 1st one's already out.
Isn't Kratos being played by the guy from Blood Diamond?
hopefully
Here's the script review the article above is based on:

interesting, if it's good and sells, that means that the second movie will send Kratos to hell to fight Hades (for some reason), perhaps in the movie they want to keep him more human rather than make him the GOW right away. But if he's in hell to bring back a dead girlfriend I'll slit my wrists.
Trust me, I'm trying very hard to be optimistic about this conversion.

If that's the ending, all I can say is that I wouldn't want to be Hades when Kratos gets there.

lol that made me laugh =)
It's been a while since I played it so correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't it start with Kratos jumping off a cliff? and then you played through the events that led up to it?….
Nevermind now I remember that Athena saved him just before he killed himself
To be fair, when all your friends jump off a cliff you must do so too.
Though I find it difficult to eff up a movie with 1 main character whose goal is to fight the gods, I don't have my hopes set high. However, until more info is out or even a trailer then I will remain on the fence on it.
be wary, I've seen fantastic trailers for the shittiest movies of all time.
good point…sometimes what they show in the trailers ARE the only good parts of the movie while the rest is bad. BUt by the time you realize it, they've gotten your money.
@DFogz
Ohhhh, so Kratos is a lemming who jumps off the cliff?????
I haven't played it yet, so thanks for the spoiler. (LMAO)
How is this movie going to be interesting? The game is pure action with incessant dismemberment. How do you make that into a movie? Those no talents should stick to what they do and not interfere with icons like Kratos.
so its based on the first game?
i still havent played it yet.
but done right it could do very well but stick to the games portrays.
get david jaffe to help with the storyline he is the daddy of GOW so its only fair he guides the story where he wants it.
and for once can we have a movie that goes for more than 2 hours.
seriously besides transformers 1 n 2 the last movie i saw that went for more than 2 hours was lord of the rings 3.
its pathetic im paying 30 bucks to get into the cinimas if you want a drink or food it goes up to 40 just for 2 hours.
rip off.
Movies 30 Bucks??? Ps3 Game 60 Bucks?? LMAO. It*Z Kinda Like 2 Bucks For A Movie, Goes To 5 With Refreshments And On Tues It*Z 0.9 Here… But Games, Yeah, Resistance And Gearz 2 Were Like 1000 Bucks!!!!!!!!!!!! Insane Ass Ppl. . . Anyway, So in The Movie He Kills Himself?. . . Only To Find Out He Gets Saved In The Sequel. LOL.
Meant 100. . . Still Kinda Weary From yesterNight. . .
Well he's already tried throwing himself off a cliff but that didn't work the 1st time.
o_O
^_^
Bet you that in the sequel (provided there is a sequel) he is immediately saved by Athena and made the God of War.
Hopefully, it ends with me getting Gran Turismo 5.
Best idea ever.
I'm not looking forward to the film version at all. I think we can all agree on that Holywood movies based on video games are usually not very good. That's the same reason why I am not really looking forward to Prince of Persia movie, even though I do like the producer.
"How is this movie going to be interesting? The game is pure action with incessant dismemberment. How do you make that into a movie? Those no talents should stick to what they do and not interfere with icons like Kratos."
Sounds like a michael bay film
For real. I mean are they going to take out the carnage to appeal to the mainstream and get their money or are they going to be as brutal as the actual game and only appeal to the hard core fans? I think I know the answer and I don't like it.
i guess my memory is shot, granite i have not played GOW for at least 2 years.
I thought there had to be a God of War and it wasn't that he accepted the throne of being the God of War after defeating Ares, it was the fact that he was forced into it more or less because of his feat. Isn't that PARTLY the reason he now wants vengeance against Zeus? Because he keeps getting into these situations that are more or less even worse than his previous predicament, by the gods.
Anyway i honestly don't like the thought of changing the ending, if they do that they shouldn't even call it God of War. It's not called God of War because of Ares, its because of Kratos feat against him and becoming the God of War. So changing that part of it changes the whole meaning.
HOLLYWOOD LEAVE IT BE… PLEASE!
I thought whoever was doing the movie dropped it, or at least put the idea away?
you no wat…the movie will prolly suck but im gonna go anyway b/b its freakin god of war!!
p.s. anyone no if this is live action or if its gonna be animated
i wanted to no b/c to have a live action GoW u'll need someone as awesome as Kratos u'll need someone like…Chuck Norris
And hes starting to show his age now. :/
That actully sounds like a good ending but plzz dont make this movie SHIT! like most of tha game 2 movie jumps we seen.
Firstly Hollywood bites, that said, here are some things that have to happen in order for me to even consider seeing the adaptation:
-Rated 'R' a hard 'R'
-The right actor to play Kratos (Nic Cage stay away).
-David Jaffe MUST be involed with the script
-And a writer that can write and be faithful to the source material
But knowing Hollywood, they'll find an amazing way to screw it up (Silent Hill anyone?) Wish I had a reset button…
