Previously, it had been rumored that EA Sports was toying with the idea of offering face-button controls for Fight Night Round 4 via downloadable content.
Well, it ain't a rumor any longer. According to EA's official Fight Night website , a free downloadable update in "early September" will give players the option of using face button controls rather than the default analog mechanic. This is in addition to the first DLC pack – also free – that will drop early next month and feature "a new training gym, new gameplay sliders, as well as a host of new equipment that can be used for outfitting boxers." Said senior producer Dean Richards:
"The depth and variety of new content we have planned this summer is going to make one of the most critically acclaimed games on the market even better. Among the new content in development, our new button control scheme will give fans a choice for how they want to throw punches in the game. We strongly believe that the refined Total Punch Control is the most intuitive way to throw punches in Fight Night Round 4, but we also want fans of the franchise to have an option."
EA is pretty good about catering to the fans, and many have been clamoring for this face button control addition. Although many critics (including ourselves) remain firm in the belief that the default analog system is plenty intuitive enough, some members of the more casual crowd simply want to hit buttons to throw punches. In that respect, we can certainly understand the appeal. We'll let you know when we have exact dates for the first DLC pack and the face-button control update.

About damn time!!! Can't stand that new "total punch control". I also think they should take out the low blows system, ppl use it too much online as part of the combo system just to knock u out faster.

God Bless America!
Im getting this game today
I'm personally a fan of the analog system but I'm all for more people getting in on the action.
Analog's the way to go for me, but if face buttons are your thing, I've got no problem with that. My only concern is button-mashers for online play.

Saaame here. I like the sticks. Im just afraid Ill have to do some button mashing myself to survive online.
I like the analog stick control in theory, but I find it too imprecise in terms of which punch gets thrown. When Ali wants to throw an upper-cut, Ali throws an upper-cut; I should have the same control.
I should note that I didn't really have the same problem with skate, so it's not JUST that I suck.
And the dodge and counter mechanics are, well, dodgy. Hold this, press that, flick this direction, then let go and flick the other direction. Not fun.
well I was going to purchase the game, but not anymore.
@Frenchy17,
You can still use the stick if you prefer, EA's just adding button option for those who can't, or won't, use the stick.
yeah but this eliminates a whole mode of play for me – online.
OK, After posting to ya, I starting thinking you might've meant the disavantage.
I used the stick in the demo & even though I loved it, I'm thinking that it will be a lot slower throwing punches than someone who has mastered the buttons.
Yeah its much more enjoyable, but much slower. Its fair how it is right now where both people have to use the same controls. This will only make online matches a total button-mashing fest.
The sticks make you have a split second more of intended strategy. That just went out the window with the impending button mashing contests…

I'm back from my cottage, its good to be back 🙂
wwhoever says that they wont buy the game cuz they will be at a disadvantage is a lame moron and cant really play video games, in other words you suck so stop crying. buttons is the way to go for me. if u can play the game with a wii controller and claim to be good at it there is no reason why u shouldnt be able to beat someone who is good at using buttons, stop crying and get good at a game cuz u obviously suck at it and want less competition so your ass wont get handed to u every trip. mommas boy
Dude.. that was the kindest comment I've read all day ^_^
And what an intelligent, well-written statement too I might ad! Wow are you 12??? I have the game right now from Gamefly, but I will be sending it back the day that no talent button masher download content comes out. So in the meantime, find me online and I will show you how much I suck at it!!!!
face buttons?!
lame
Good, thanks. I'll actually buy this now. That's the end of that chapter.
YAY!! I commented on this before and my wishes have actually come true. Face buttons are just better for me. The right stick is nice and all, but a true gamer knows that the buttons are where its at.
EA actually listens to its fans. Nice to know they provide options rather than forcing people into a set control scheme. (cough, looking at you Killzone 1, cough)
LOl. Though I Got The Game On Sunday And Holding My Own Out On Champion Diffi With The New Punch Ish, I*m All For The Face*Buttons, Damm That Ali On G.O.A.T Mode, Shii, Spent 2 Hours Yesternight Trying To Take Him Out! And Isn't That Bs How He Stands Up After 5 Knockouts?(Foremen Baby!!!), Heck, In Reality I Doubt He'd Handle 3, Seeing That He Bearly Got Knocked Down In His Career Peak. . .
No shiite! Those dudes are pure crazy!
Balla, I think your keyboard is malfunctioning.
