Racing fans everywhere have been hoping that Gran Turismo 5 will launch this year, and because series creator Kazunori Yamauchi recently said they could release it "whenever they wanted," the rumors intensified.
However, the newest update says the hotly anticipated simulated racer won't make it in 2009, but it should hit store shelves before the end of March 2010. According to Euro website VideoGamesZone.de , Sony "promises" that GT5 will release before the current fiscal year ends. For those of you who judiciously avoid the business end of the industry (and we can't blame you; it gets kinda boring), Sony's fiscal year ends on March 31, so you do the math. Now, if it does come out in March, this will put it in direct competition with SCEA's God of War III , which is scheduled to release that very same month. If Polyphony doesn't wish to embark on that epic battle, it would make a little more sense to launch GT5 in January…that's just logic talking. Then again, as the source in question doesn't specifically mention the name of the Sony representative that has supposedly confirmed this release window, we have to take this all with a grain of salt. Really, the fall-winter release schedule is pretty well packed, so GT5 will have competition no matter what.
Of course, for the hardcore racing fans, it won't matter what the competition might be…GT5 is the most-wanted title. Right?
