Burnout Paradise Update: Can You Attain Diamond Status?

Although LittleBigPlanet may be close in terms of available extra Store content, we still say that Burnout Paradise is the king of bonus DLC.

Now, you may already know that the Big Surf Island Pack gives you 9 new cars…but you probably didn't know how to obtain the ninth car. Well, it's the Diamond P12 – pictured here – and Criterion explains how to get it: the Gold and even Platinum levels are for chumps; only the truly elite can attain "Diamond" status. You must complete all 500 of the online Freeburn Challenges, and that means you have to finish all challenges in the original game, all the new Timed and Freeburn challenges in the Cagney and Bikes Packs, plus the 10 new Freeburn challenges that come with Big Surf Island. Obviously, this is going to take some serious time and dedication, but we figure if you've been following along with all these updates, you're willing to give it a try. How long will it take to complete all 500…? Well, that depends on your driving skill and whether or not you have a very high threshold for annoyance; patience is gonna be key. And you know, it seems as if Criterion is never going to stop adding on to Burnout Paradise . Why even bother with a sequel at this point? Heck, the game is so huge now, it has almost become its own sequel!

So do you have what it takes to nab this Diamond P12? Or are you just gonna flake out like a n00b? Sorry…had to say it.

Ummmm…..you probably can just buy it soon, like the other car packs. After all time is money.

They'll do that eventually, just like they did before. Alex Ward of Criterion has stated categorically that they want the game to be accessible to everyone…In other words it's n00b friendly. Lots of elements in the game have been softened to make it easier with the more recent updates. The original game seems a tad faster, and has more challenge. Sad that we actually have an example of a game being 'dumbed down'.

You used to have to actually complete the game to get all the cars, now you pay $5 and get'em all immediately.

I can't comment further as I am finding it hard not to be overly cynical. I used to be so much into this game. I achieved 101%, Criterion Elite, got gold and platinum finishes on the cars, got the chrome finishes on the bikes, got all six carbon cars, Platinum trophy, etc…I was even one of a very few Rai-Jin crash test dummies given the car by Criterion a little early. But….stuff happens. Perhaps I can bring myself back to the game with the Island…

I sure hope you are wrong – I did the horrible error of buying the "time saver" pack, and that made everything dull. It's good to have something to reach for. And the challenges are jolly fun!

One of my first ps3 purchases, i set it aside for Resistance 2 then KZ2 followed by Street Fighter and inFamous…guess it's not a bad time to pick up where I left off 😛

I hated Burnout after about a month of getting it on BRD… it frustrated me.

but I brought it on the network months ago and have followed with a lot of the DLC, and I now think its one of the best driving exp on any platform, amazing.

Big surf is fantasic.. looking forward to the planes!!

I beat the original game and got elite status, and then they came out with the trophies. I may have to start a new game all over again…I don't know if I'll get the diamond though…that's a lot of time invested..and it is summer…But I'll at least try, it just may take a while.

Visit Operation Burnout (just google "Operation Burnout") to find some folks that will help you with your Freeburn challenges.

Wow this game never goes away even Fallout 3 has been quiet with its DLC recently.
Am not hating on the game but every time i see some news on it, i feel guilty for not buying it.

Its like you want to forget something and they keep reminding you of it.Whats more, anytime i want to go get it, i feel like a sequel may be around the corner but this Paradise just won't go!

What do you have against Burnout? I've always loved the series. They just keep adding to it. Sure it's no GT but it's not supposed to be. It's a fun arcade driver. And there aren't a lot of games out there in it's genre that offer what Criterion has offered. I wish they hadn't taken away the split screen racing, but I still really enjoy the game. What's your beef with it?

dude, Burnout's always been about damage and the fun that comes with it. What does it have to do with Blitz?

also, is it me or did someone just go down the list of comments and giving them 'downs'? wtf?

I've been interested in buying this game since it's now 19.99 but is it worth it if you don't or can't get the DLC right away? I just can't afford the DLC at this time but want to play the game but if it's mostly enjoyable through the DLC i won;t be getting it.

There's 120 events and 75 cars to unlock before you even touch DLC. Yes, it's fun.

I've had the Diamond car since the day the Island was released. I had 490/490 challenges done before then. All I had to do was the remaining 10 on the island.

Whatever happened to the delorean they said they were going to release? Never seen it on the network anywhere.
