Best Buy Offering Two Sweet PlayStation 3 Bundles

Okay, so we didn't get the much-anticipated PlayStation 3 price cut at E3, but perhaps you would respond to another type of popular incentive: bundles!

For the most part, the concept of the console bundle is both a welcome sight and an irritation for avid gamers. On the one hand, they appreciate the free bonuses but on the other, they remain miffed that Sony won't simply cut the base retail price. Well, even if you fall into the latter category, you will have to admit that Best Buy's offerings are awfully juicy: thanks to PSXE reader caliblue15, we have this visual evidence from BlueRayCenter's forums. As you can see, a copy of LittleBigPlanet and the Blu-Ray version of the hit film "WALL-E" are packaged together with the PlayStation 3, and it seems both of the aforementioned items are free. The price tag for this bad boy shouldn't be a cent more than the regular 80GB PS3 with no such additions, which we know is $399. Furthermore, cast your glance lower to find an even bigger – and potentially sweeter – bundle; it features a 46" 1080p LCD HDTV and the 80GB PS3 for the very attractive price of $1299! Now, if you haven't made the leap into full high-definition this generation, you may not ever find a better deal. Seriously, there are lots of sales incentives floating around out there, but this one is worthy of your attention.

Perhaps your PS3 is on the fritz and you haven't updated to a high-def TV, or maybe you simply don't have a PS3 and you could use an even better TV. Whatever the reason, Best Buy has two ultra-appealing options that should tickle your buying bone.

How long does the TV deal last…because I need to save up a bit more money

Just finance it and do monthly payments. It's convenient and if you are responsible enough you won't pay any interest.

It last until Saturday. If you put it on your Best Buy credit card and its over $799, you get 3 years to pay if off this week.

this pretty much proves the story on : technica and joystiq. ars technica's mole claims that 80gb pse stock will run dry soon, and we will see a price drop this fall. sony is probably giving companies incentives to sell out their stock. blockbuster is doing the exact same thing, according to joystiq.

ars technica article: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/news/2009/06/mole-exclusive-ps3-360-price-drops-coming-this-fall.ars

all i can say to anyone who wants a ps3, wait until at least november, if anything is coming it will be announced by then. we will hopefully see a redisigned ps3 for 299$ and PS2 backwards compatibility added into all PS3's either for free or for a small fee(kind of like ipod touch firmware upgrades).

Anyone who wants to play Uncharted when it arrives, or any of the games out between now and then will want one.

Hands up all those that want to wait longer for their chance to play Uncharted?

See, no hands.

Hands up those who'd rather find a well priced bundle with a PS3 now and enjoy games galore now?

Oooh, lots of hands. I guess that the bundles have it!

Wonder how long before someone at Sony comes up with the rather brilliant idea of putting a PS3 inside a Bravia TV?

I'd buy one…

It is last years model but a good TV. Last years models went from best to last: Sony, Samsung, LG, Toshiba, Sharp, the rest. This years TV's are: Samsung, Sony, Toshiba, LG, Sharp, the rest.

Also the TV is only a 60hz TV.

Sony is the best electronics company. At least I think so. I cant wait till the OLED tvs come in bigger sizes. 1,000,000:1 contrast ratio would be the shiz to play games or watch movies!

Bravia TVs are always good. Some Bravia TVs (the REALLY expensive ones) are better than others.

Samsung and Sharp are good as well. Sony has always had really good TVs, and the Bravia range is no exception. The difference between Sony and the other good HDTV brands isn't as pronounced as say the difference between Sony Trinitron and regular color TVs. A lot depends on how they are set up as well. A good TV can look horrible depending on the setup.

Personally I like the Bravia range and have always wanted one, especially one of the newer models with color LED backlighting. They are thinner, brighter and have a near infinite contrast ratio.

Sony seems to be a pretty reliable brand when it comes to TVs. Whatever you do, DO NOT buy a Polaroid tv, and also, really research the TV you're planning on buying, because some of the TVs come from the exact same manufacturer but get different brand names put onto them. (I can't remember the manufacturer's name right now, but it's a Hong Kong based company.) Vizio comes from the same manufacturer, and if I remember correctly, so does Panasonic.

I did the mistake of buying a Polaroid TV, it did not go well, at all. It broke down and I finally got a refund after months and months of arguing, I then bought a Sharp Aquos, and I couldn't be happier! 🙂

OH GOD…A SONY Bravia 1080p LCD HDTV?!?! *dies*…it looks so beautiful. Out of every T.V I've seen in places like Best Buy, Frys, and Costco…the Sony Bravia one always catches my eye.

But…I really want a PS3 that is backwards compatible…or at least partially backwards compatible.

So I'm still looking toward the PS3 MGS4 80gb bundle. Oh well…

I hope this is true. My ps3 is starting to give me problems. If they drop the price I'll buy a new one. Anybody know what this error code means (80010514)? It kept freezing while playing mgs4. Then it froze while watching advent children complete. After that it stopped reading my games and movies all together. I restored the factory settings then it worked for a while then started giving me that error code above. Blagh! I hope it's noIt broken.

TheHighlander
TheHighlander

This error seems to be a really generic error that essentially means that the PS3 could not start the game for some reason. Specific isn't it?

I found a couple of possible causes.

The first possible cause seems to be the more traditional dirty lens in the BluRay. Have you tried a lens cleaning product? Several places I found recommended using these (not sure how good they are). Someone actually suggested lifting the cover on the PS3 and manually cleaning the BluRay drive internals including the lens. Not sure I'd do that myself though.

If you do decide to get a cleaning disc, make sure it's suitable for a Bluray drive.

The second possibility appears to be a corrupt firmware installation, although I would think that if that was the case, it would stop working immediately after a firmware upgrade, and simply not work at all for games and/or movies.

Apparently if it's a corrupt firmware you can restart your PS3 into the service menu and choose option 3 to restore the file system (perform a backup of your PS3 first). This will supposedly check and rebuild the firmware installation. It was suggested that the corruption could happen as the result of a bad sector on the HDD. So that when the firmware was downloaded, part of it was on a bad sector and when the firmware updated, the corrupt data was copied into the flash memory. So in addition to re-building your firmware, you will probably want to reformat the HDD. If you do this, you will have to backup your system to be sure you have everything you need. Don't forget to record your account ids and any email address/passwords you'll need later for activating your accounts.

There are better descriptions of what to do and how to do it for restoring the PS3 file system and performing a system backup of a PS3, reformatting the HD and restoring. I urge you to google them and research before proceeding.

Of course there is always the Sony option of calling Sony and doing a repair with them, but naturally that will cost $$$.

I'm thinking it might be the Hard Drive. Because you said you did reset it and still does the same thing after a while.
Do you have another SATA 2.5 HD laying around? Try swapping it for a while and see how it goes.

Jawknee
Jawknee

Hey thanks guys. I hope I don't have to send it in. I don't want to be forced to replace my BC 60 gb ps3 for a non BC one. Also karosso the restore I did was the non extensive one. It want what Highlander advised. I'll give that a try tonight. But I did replace the hard drive not too long ago with a 500gb one. At random time I'll get a "Cannot start, correct hard disk not found". I found restarting the system fixes that. Hmmm seems like a coincidence that my drive or ps3 would start havng problems right after the 2.80 firmware up date. I'll try swaping out the new drive for the old one. I still have it.

TheHighlander
TheHighlander

@Jawknee

Regarding intermittent failure to see the HDD, try removing and re-inserting the HDD. Make sure it's as firmly seated in the socket as possible. If there is a poor connection it could result in occasional problems seeing the drive, and if the drive dropped out during a disc operation you might get some corruption on the drive.

The other thing is that if you return your PS3 to Sony for repair, you are supposed to get the same model back. Even if it's not the exact same system you sent them, it will be the same model, including the BC chip set.

Thanks highlander. I'll try that. I'm calling Sony right now. I was lookng around on the net. It seems that the code I listed above means the blue Ray drive is dead. K just got off the phone. Sony pretty much told me to do what you told me to do highlander. They said if that didn't work then I have to send it back. Bummer.

I hope everything works out for you. If you decide you want or need another 60GB unit, I know of someone who refurbishes 60GB units and upgrades the HDDs. Use the PM function on the PSX forum to contact me if you need that information.

OLED TV=thin. i want one, i want one for the environment not the 1,000,000 to 1 contrast ratio…..shut up, you dont know me! lol. btw SONY's 11'' OLED TVs are $2,500. idk i might be wrong.

TheHighlander
TheHighlander

They are very expensive.

OLED screens may ultimately be manufactured using screen printing technology, but this is still some way off. They may also be better for the environment because they use less materials and potentially less energy. However for now an LED backlit LCD is pretty darned good for it's size when it comes to energy, and there really isn't a lot of exotic materials that go into one, they are just a little challenging to build because of their size.

The LED backlit TVs that use 3 or 4 color LED elements for backlighting each pixel are amazingly good. They are very fast refresh, have insanely high contrast – as good or better than anything else on the market, and have some of the best color reproduction there is. They are also very expensive…

When it comes to LCD HDTV, I prefer Samsung. It's just sooo much better. I am not into Plasma TVs at all but Samsung LCD HDTV simply ROCKS!

I bought a "recertified" 42" Vizio (1080p, 120hz) on ebay for $600 and I have been really happy with it. Its probably not as good as a brand new Bravia or Samsung but if you're looking to upgrade and money is tight, its a good option.

I just switched my 60GB PS3 for a 80GB PS3 (paid a little more than a full game, got Godfather II free), and I upgraded the HDD to 250GB. Plus, I have my 19" 720p LCD TV, which is fine, so I'll skip this thing.

Plus, I live in Europe, so I can't take advantage of it anyway.
