By now, most of you should know about that innovative skateboard controller that will debut with Tony Hawk: Ride later this year. But were you aware that it will be usable with other titles…?
In speaking to VideoGamer.com at E3, Robomodo president Joshua Tsui revealed that the accessory is viewed as "its own platform," and many future games will take advantage of this unique peripheral. We recently saw the retail price for the full Tony Hawk: Ride package; Amazon lists it at $119.99, which is a little steep…but not if you can use that board again! It reminds us of all the music-based games when owners can play their instruments on new iterations in a particular franchise. Said Tsui:
"It's really important to us that when people buy this package that they understand that, right now we're concentrating on Tony Hawk Ride, but we want to make sure that people have a good return on their investment so there are many games that are planned for this peripheral. We look at it less as a peripheral, as more of a platform. The obvious ones are snowboarding and surfing and such, but there are a lot of games that can be used with this board, and we're really excited to start working on those."
So essentially, it's almost as if the team conceived of the accessory first, then built their first game around it with the intention of making more. This is just fine by us, and hey, we kinda need a new surfing game. They tried a couple back in the early days of the Xbox but they weren't exactly fantastic; can you imagine trying to virtually carve a wave with that board?
Related Game(s): Tony Hawk: Ride
No, I really don't buy into this. To me it did not look very convincing when it was being demoed; rather man-handled.
There will be many a fallen, many a sprain, and many that will look wrong standing on that piece of plastic!

Cool 🙂
Imagine playing Resident evil and beating up zombies with a skatboard lol XD
Lol IronFace2… you could have something there!
Q!
"i am home"
viva Dead rising 2 ( in las vegas 😀 )
lol…
Some companies crack me up
They think we're all 10 years old
You don't have to be ten to have fun.
That makes damn good since lol.
Agree with Scarecrow
I really can't imagine myself using that board.
I could wake up my neighbours trying to do a kickflip XD
Activision wants us to see the peripheral somewhat more like a platform? Um, we already have a true platform: PS3. Oh wait, you guys want to pull the plug on titles for it…wtf? lol
Bobby Kotick, i really think you should cut the price on that, since you know business best. We thought we heard you tell somebody to cut his price last week.
"there are a lot of games that can be used with this board"
Does anyone else think Wii Fit???
The thing is probably a re-packaged Wii balance board built under license….
Odd, I would prefer to play Skate, or go skate. The tony hawk games have been done and over with for some time now.
agreed
I dont believe in there other games!
There will be no big titels for this excepte maybe Ride2.
And I dont think you can simulate surfing with this nearly as good as skating (if that works that is). I think this thing would need force feedback or something like that^^ And it would still looks like a skate board!
It is silly of them to say it is more. Just go with "It will be the most real skate exp. but it will be a bit expensiv"!
Snowboarding could probably work too.
I can't wait for the reports of wii-mote like destruction as people fling this thing into their TV.
Of course it's a platform, you stand on it right? 😛

I didnt think Guitar Hero would take off either because of its expensive extra bits, and look what happened there
Yeah, but everyone loves music… not everyone can enjoy pretending to skateboard 😛
i think i'll pass on this
Shall pass on this device. Don't play the skateboard or surfing or snowboarding games anyway lol
More overpriced plastic tat from a company that excels at selling over priced plastic tat and then flaming companies that sell state of the art entertainment systems for less than cost. Whoopie!
BTW, anyone seen how the 'regular' media is loving the suggestion that Activision would stop developing for PS3/PSP. It's good to see how much analysis and thought goes into articles these days. </sarcasm>
haha!
hmmm thing with this is, if natal for xbox will work, then why would anyone buy an expensive board like this when they could skate without the board? (As shown in the video of natal). And if natal could do it, then the playstation eye should be able to do something similar (we hope) so i can't see this selling all that well.. =/
I can see mony-grubbing Anti-Vision throwing some Rock Band/Guitar Hero stickers on it & telling us it will also play as a xylophone too!
alot of broken ankles i predict. Not to mention the ol' wallet. Do they actually expect people to pay $120, especially if someone just paid $100 and over on Guitar Hero or Rock Band for the first time? haha, unbelievable.
Maybe they should drop their prices before Sony yanks their approval for games on Sony platforms?
<innocent smile>
No thanks, I'll keep skating outside with a real board instead. And maybe play Skate 2 for a bit also.
😀
