As much as we'd like to believe that Gran Turismo 5 would receive a worldwide simultaneous launch, there is evidence that Europe will receive this blockbuster first.
Yesterday, we told you that European retailer, Play.com, had GT5 listed with a November 27, 2009 release date. Obviously, this caused a bit of an uproar in the racing enthusiast world because up until that point, few dared believe the game would be ready this year. Some just think it's a placeholder date but today, Euro site PS3Hype supposedly received a confirmation from Play that the November 27 date is official . Now, this got us all interested so we quickly called a few GameStops to see what they had to say, and the news from each wasn't encouraging: first of all, they've got GT5 listed with a May 4, 2010 date, and secondly, they all said that the Euro and US dates could be different. In fact, one store said it's "likely" that the game would release in Europe first. Of course, we don't put a heck of a lot of stock into what GameStop employees have to say concerning such matters, but it's certainly worth noting. As it stands now, November 27 and May 4 are six months apart, and one of these dates may be nailed in place. So where does this leave us?
Thing is, GT has always excelled in Europe. Polyphony Digital is well aware of the success the franchise has had in that region, and it's a well-known fact that a whole lot of Euro citizens love cars. Of course, the American's love affair with cars is well-documented, too, but in this case, perhaps it wouldn't be too surprising to see GT5 in Europe in 2009…

I hope so. I'm from the UK!!
having read this, I was about to write 'I hope so' but you beat me
Eat that yankee doodles!!! lol just kidding…
Ta ta I only stopped by for some scones now back to the cricket!
I wish I was French 🙁
Seriously though, you guys and gals are so lucky…
It MUST be a worldwide release, if Prologue was (except for Japan) 5 should be…
Ans GT is a system seller, think about it: a price cut for the holidays, U2:AT and GT5… PS3 sales to the roof.
since when has gamestop been credible? i walked in the other day and they had GOW3 set for this year. I HATE GAMESTOP!
No, they don't. Every GameStop I've dealt with has a March 30, 2010 placeholder date.
Not every gamestop updates accordingly and not every gamestop has the correct dates, i spend time talking to the managers and such at mine (…lots of time..like…8 hours @_@ ) so yeah we're pretty tight, he gives me lots of free goodies 😉 but yeah he said don't really pay attention to their placeholder dates and what not, they're not always correct there. but we did have fun playing street fighter 4 tournies =D
Gamestop = garbage
The worse place any gamer can walk into
depends on what type of gamer you are 😉
I buy from the UK but i mean….it should be a simultaneous release. I wouldn't be surprised if it still came to US first.
I have been playing the waiting game for a while, starting to get use to it. All I care about is that the game was worth the wait.
GT5 Prologue at Target for $9.99 today is the last day (Saturday).
Well, I`m from Norway:) So that would be awesome if it`s true!!!
So going by Play's dates, we can expect Uncharted 2, Ratchet & Clank, White Knight Chronicles and GT5 to release on the same day. That's a pretty compact release schedule.
Then they have God of War III and Heavy Rain for March 26th. Busy times.

This does suprise me see how GT5P came out in Japan first then Europe with the NA release following a couple days later.
Seeing how there's trophies now and with the inclusion of the Top Gear Race Track I wonder there would be a trophy called "I'm the Stig."
If there is, I'll laugh my ass off. God I love that show.
They start Series 13 tomorrow (Sunday).
I'm not exactly sure why, but James May is one of my favourite people ever. Even for something that has entire segments designed solely to build up Clarkson's ego, the show is so awesome that I still watch the repeats of them whenever I can.
They made Australian Top Gear but it ended up rubbish. They had all the same things like the set in a warehouse and a secret test track at an airport, then they tried to copy the hosts but Clarkson one was arrogant without being entertaining, the James May one was just an idiot and they couldn't find someone to be Hammond so they got someone with his own personality and he ended up being the only likeable one.
Luckily for the second season they got rid of the one trying to be Clarkson and replaced him with someone entertaining.
In summary: Top Gear – awesome
Top Gear Australia – not completely terrible when Waz isn't on it but will always be just a poor version of the UK one riding on the coattails of something more popular when the UK show is not on.
Top Gear race track………sweet!
Bummer for USA.
well im importing then.
I guess it makes up for Pain. That came out 6 months after US lol.
But I hope the date is right for UK, It will be a good Christmas for games.
Hey I would trade you Pain for GT:5 any day. 😛
Same…
We've been waiting this long for it so I guess we would wait longer, if this is indeed true. Maybe they'll be fine-tuning it during those several months before it hits stateside and we'll get something nice that the rest of the world will receive as a patch or update. No matter what, I will be buying that little disc of joy once it finally comes out.
GT5: P was released in Europe first well obviously Japan but I don't think it's May maybe America gets the really real driving simulator in December
If this European release date better be true or Play.com should be banned from making ridiculous release dates that turn out to be way off
BOTTOMLINE I JUST WANT GRAN TURSIMO 5
I don't mind it being released in the UK first. I'll just patiently wait for it to get here.
I highly doubt itll be such a huge diffference. Im betting on a worldwide release.
What is the difference between the UK English version and the American one?
The ridiculous accent? and they need six months to localize it? I call BS!
The delays between the regions should not be that bad. Can anybody refresh my memory on how the release of other four GT's went?
I could understand there being a different release date for the US, but SIX MONTHS!?!? That's a nonsensical gap in release dates.
all i can say is that this is payback for socom being released in europe 6 months later and us euopeans getting owned by kids who had a 6 month start in getting good!!
six months seems a wee bit too long…. i haven't brushed up on my american cultural classes but when does nascar start? might this have something with the release date?
tbh, i think it'll get a world wide release date, either 2009 or 2010. *states the obvious*
NASCAR has like 2 months off from December to February. I think NASCAR will effect when they release GT5 the way the NBA season effects the Premier League. (It doesn't)
P.S. I didn't know NASCAR's start, I had to look that up.
i hope that GT5 get released in 2009, i dont care if it world wide or not, i just want the game already. i'm not a really patient guy.
Nonsense….that they are claiming the date was officially announced by the developers themselves…. Flatout ridiculous and an offense to PD and the industry.
What makes that site deserve an official saying of a release date from Sony/PD anymore than other MORE reliable site?
Anyone can say whatever on the net. I can too. Check it out:
"It has been confirmed by Polyphony Digital and legendary game creator, Kazunori Yamauchi, that GT5 will release in the UK as of Novermeber 27, 2009"…
So what makes me more credible than anyone else? Uuuh, cause I got a confirmation from Sony and the developers?
Every GT fans should ignore every bit of these nonsense until confirmation are from Sony and PD themselves (ie. PS Blog, GT official site), not sites claiming they get official information from them.
Typically, legitimate sites don't want to make any "official" claims without it actually being OFFICIAL…one can get into trouble doing that.
I'm not saying that European site is legitimate (I'm not familiar with it), but I'm just saying.
But Nascar is a purely American fascination.
WHAT?! Europe gets GT5 1st?!
ERRONEOUS! ERRONEOUS ON ALL COUNTS!!
If anything, it should release 6 years early in America, so you guys can be a little better prepared for the superior European drivers…imao
What the F U C K!?
Im from Indy, racing capitol of the world. what now? i've been to 10 Indy 500s.
🙁
I hope it's not true
Would that cover all PAL regions like Oceania???
BTW I just finished GTA5:P, I'm renting it.
And I'm so ashamed that I had to turn on Race Physics to Standard for one race:
That A Class Ferrari F430 Daytona race.
Goddamn oversteer on 2nd gear 🙁
It was a HUGE difference from Professional, I was quite surprised.
wtf I meant GT5:P lololol
i hope this is true, its 1 day after my birthday and im in the UK.
This may be the game which makes me finally get a steering wheel. I've never liked the idea of having to sit upright while gaming, guess me n my lazy ass'll have to come to some agreement.
Is there a steering wheel which can be used while laying down?
Stop complaining please? For once, we get a good form of entertainment before the Americans. Whether it's a game, film or CD. In this case a game.
You guys always get stuff before us. I mean ALWAYS… By the time a movie comes out here in the cinema's, you guys have it on DVD 50% of the time.
I think it's our turn to get something and YOU have to import it.
Wow.. what a snotty attitude you have there friend. As for us in the USA.. we actually make movies.. I mean imagine that.. Whats the last UK movie made that we would give a crap enough to import? You'll get em whenever we send em. When I last checked.. the only games made in the UK were Wipeout and Burnout.. or at least their the best ones to come from there. When it comes to the entertainment industry.. you guys in the Uk are LIGHT years behind the rest of the world. Hell, even that bollywood crap is selling more than UK movies. USA and Japan make the best stuff.. movies, games, whatever. So dont start that high horse crap on the forums. Whenever you guys decide to stop stabbing each other, like you've been doing for the last thousand years… the line forms to the left. Until then, just take what your given, and be lucky your getting anything. If you want to bicker and gripe, do it somewhere else. Psxextreme.. best website ever. (lol)
Knightedrik, your the one with the snotty attitude, just complaining ranting about your hatred for the UK. He was only stating the truth that we have had to import games because they came out first down your end (Socom, UT3, etc). Calm down, we do produce good stuff aswell, and as for the light years behind :S no need!
I myself would prefer a worldwide release at the same time, i don't think we can just go off one website, like you've all said it is probably just a random placemarker.
Yep, Nas is only stating fact really-knightedrik, mate, how bent out of shape are yopu over this? Thing is if somethings released in the US and it's from the US I still don't see why the UK should wait as there's no language(except the awful yank spellings;)-I mean Aluminum? Come oooon!)barrier. Yet we even wait longer for things from Japan after they've been localised to English for the States!
And we pay more for games and consoles. And SCEE are beyond crap even though the EU has been far more Playstation loyal than the US who, from SCEA, get way better service than we do. I'm bot certain Sony know much about Europe either! Plus, the GT5 release will be simultaneous and before Xmas for everyonme-and likely with some kind of Slim or cut in price. With GT5, a huge brand on it's own , it's the ideal time for Sony to pull their finger out.
And Knight, again, you Americans opwe the British far more than you care to think, and not just for the finest language in the world. Even now we get treated like pariahs in our own continent for the "special relationship" we have with you guys. The same relationship which sees our soldiers dying alongside yours as we back up US foreign policy and attempt to legitimate it to the rest of the world.
I don't know if the fool or the fool that follows him is the biggest fool-I do know that Americans should appreciate the fact that they get things pretty nmuch on a plate and we always back them up so they do-however unpopular it makes us. And I wouldn't go knocking the UK when it comes to the arts, music, games industry talent(you really only think Burnout and Wipeout are made in this country?), scientific breakthroughs, inventions, medicine-in fact pretty much everything as we're much more influential than you clearly understand.
Oh, and from someone from a nation with gun laws that puzzle literally the whole of the rest of the developed world all the talk of "stabbing" was a little rich. too.
I have several US friends and they'd be a little gutted by your myopic, US-centric way of seeing the world. You come from a very great nation, that's true, but it isn't perfect and nor is it the only fekkin one on the planet.
