For the longest time, many were convinced that at some point during the delay for Splinter Cell: Conviction , Ubisoft would announce the switch from an Xbox 360 exclusive to a multiplatform title that includes the PlayStation 3.
Well, it ain't happening. It seems that Ubisoft has a touch of loyalty towards Microsoft, considering the "link of heart" they established between MS and the Splinter Cell franchise back in 2002 when the original first launched. It was certainly true that these games were better experiences on the more powerful platform of the time, and it seems Ubisoft is rewarding Microsoft for being such good supporters (or something to that effect). Here's the official statement they gave to VG247 :
"Splinter Cell Conviction is a true Microsoft exclusive title and there are no plans to have Splinter Cell Conviction on other platforms.
There are several reasons behind this choice. First of all, Splinter Cell games are historically linked with Microsoft platforms. The first Splinter Cell on the original Xbox was one of the first games to fully exploit the console’s technical possibilities. At that time, Microsoft really believed in the game potential and provided strong support to promote it. So, there is a 'link of heart' between the franchise and the platform. Some games are like this (think of Final Fantasy for instance).
The second reason behind this choice is purely linked to production. Having a single target platform means that we can optimize the game even further, because we only have one type of – console – hardware to support."
Does anyone else find it funny that Ubisoft mentioned Final Fantasy? They say that FF has a "link of heart" between the franchise and the Sony PlayStation platform and yet, the next official installment will be on the Xbox 360 as well. So either Square-Enix needs to get with the program and understand this whole "link of heart" thing, or one publisher is taking advantage of millions more potential consumers while one is – against all business advice – putting loyalty ahead of potential. Man, this debate could rage for eons…
But either way, Splinter Cell: Conviction won't be coming to the PS3. …guess our consolation is knowing MGS4 is, and will remain, a PS3 exclusive. 😉
And before anyone starts bashing on Splinter Cell, bear in mind that I LOVE all these games and Conviction is a Day 1 purchase for me, regardless of the platform. 😉
Me too.
the last game i realy did not like at all
mostly this mini games that killed it
this new game drops the thing i loved in the old games
the planing and attacking like a ninja
I'd also like to buy it. 360 should have it, their running out of games, ps3 has enough on their plate,inFamous,KZ,Uncharted2,GoWIII,Heavy Rain,Agent, maybe even L.A Noire…..so yea 360 should have every last piece of SC.
thumbs down for wanting a game that is not going to be on ps3? Gosh, ppl need to grow up!
I never got into any of the splinter cell games so this doesnt bother me.
I'm a big Splinter Cell fan. Even though I never liked the direction they've been taking with this one, I'm sad I won't be able to play it. Oh well, now that they fixed the controls of MGS, I guess I can just play MGS4 for my stealth fix.
Never played them Ben, took a long time for me to even look at a console and think…yeah, FPS' are fun with a controller 😉
But, I did enjoy the hell out of MGS4, that's for sure.

…SC was never a FPS.
Haha, yeah, well, see, just proves my point that I never paid attention to them lol. Sorry though, TPS then, I'm assuming?

Yeah, like MGS.
It's historically been more stealthy than MGS, but the new one is Sandbox style… each level is a sandbox and you can choose if you want to go nuts on some fools or break some necks from the shadows. This is a day 1 purchase from me and I haven't done that in some time. The first three games are on PC and I think there is a collection set if I'm not mistake and maybe even some on Steam… I'm not sure.
doesn't look that interesting and all in all not that important of a loss for me…
Not a good for the ol' PS3. This and also the Activision ass…er CEO saying he may pull support for Sony all together.
Many see that as a bad thing, or scary. But, really, I'm no fan of Guitar hero, and W@W I play on my PC. 3rd party developers have a long ways to go before i'll ever buy one of their games for the PS3 again. They need to prove that they put $60 worth of effort into it. So far, they're sorely lacking.

Yea, just read the comments made by the CEO of Activision. He sounds really arrogant and ignorant for someone who charges $200 for a full instrument set for Guitar Hero. Not to mention, there are so many different version of Guitar Hero releasing in a space of few months, has got me really confused. Starting to think that they are trying to rip consumers off. Why can't they just release them through DLC, not like theres much changes to the game among the different versions
Mr. Kotick is just a blowhard. If he wants to bankrupt his company with "decisions" like that, go on ahead. If he wants to pitch his tent with MS, go on ahead. He won't. He'll look like an idiot if he follows through.
I'm sure there will be a price cut this year so his comments will be moot.
if activision pulls out of the ps3, then that means no modern warfare 2, or any sequels after that one!!! that would really suck, and imo, iw should find a new publisher if this ever happens…
but it makes no sense… you know how many ppl on ps3 play guitar hero, call of duty, and other Activision games! i bet my bottom dollar that a good number of their market share is made just from the ps3 alone… take that out of the equation, aswell as add this recession into the mix, and no console will have guitar hero or cod…
yea, also Capcom said this fiscal year they are expecting to make more money from the PS3 in software sales too. I dont understand this. I thought Sonys attach rate was higher then MS regardless of higher console sales?
well sony are the ones claiming this so…i dont know.
http://www.vg247.com/2009/04/14/ps3-has-a-higher-attach-rate-than-xbox-360-says-sony/
Attach rate is a percentage. The ps3 sells more games per console then the 360, but that dosn't mean that it sells more games total due to the deference in console numbers. And that's what people really care about.
well I really dont care about games based on Tom Clancy's but I like Ubisoft second reason single platform means that they can optimize the game.
yeah FFXIII would be better being an exclusive too.. only xbots dont want to admit that to bad the "link of heart" was weak.
I saw an E3 trailer for Conviction and it looks quite interesting. I give Ubisoft a little big of credit for wanting to optimize for one console. If only more developers would do that.
I loooooved the first two Splinter Cell games. But this newest one looks like is has waaay too many QTEs.
So, you may not like Heavy Rain then….the whole game looks like QTEs.

What's a QTE?
Quick Time Event.
Arnold,
Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory was the best one. If you haven't played it, you should. And, it's actually not gimped on the PS2, for once.
Yes, the first few were great games, I put quite a few hours into them. Well, excluding double agent. It doesn't matter, xbox can have it. All the good games already came out multiplat. Plus that's not really an exclusive I would be too crazy about.
AMEN I hated Splinter Cell
What call my attention is that a UBI rep last years said that Conviction is not coming to the PS3 because Sony's machine can't handle the so advances AI that conviction has…
And now they speak about loyalty… weird
But we still have Haze as an Ubi exclusive !!!!!!
LOL…haze..
lol… not really a fantastic choice for a comeback…
that was one of my worst purchases…

i saw some e3 game play how come loads of his moves look just like big bosses cqc?
Because splinter cell wouldnt exist if it wasnt for MGS.
And MGS4 wouldn't be as awesome but for Splinter Cell.
They're going to miss out on alot of sales. Splinter Cell on the PS2 were a couple of my favorite games.
splinter cell or MGS.. Hmmm.
nah, I think I'll stick with Snake, Sphincter hell has had its day.
Never say never. Look at GTA:TLAD. Why would a developer shot them self in the foot?
can't wait for diz1…….
If they want it to be a 360 exclusive due to the usual BS, fine. I'm not a Splinter Cell fan.
……I'll get over it.
You'll upset Ben with your lack of enthusiasm/sorrow. Having said that, I'm not too cut up either.
your not the only one!
i'd rather take my chances with a snake anyway
I loved the Splinter Cell games, and this is the first time I've ever been really jealous of the 360. I'll have to go back to moms house so I can play it on my bro's Xbox.
Although it always bothered me that Sam could sneak around with bright green lights on his forehead.
My brother works at Ubisoft, he worked on Assassins Creed 2. Next time i visit him at work i guess ill just talk to him and see if any new Ubisoft games will be exclusive to our beloved SONY machine.
"Having a single target platform means that we can optimize the game even further, because we only have one type of – console – hardware to support."
I fully agree with this. And because of this, it fully supports why SONY continues to crank out such quality titles along with third party titles such as Valkyria Chronicles. All consoles are going to get its exclusives so let's just fact it. So let's just be glad that SONY as a lot of the best quality exclusives because its on that console and that console alone.
This has nothing to do with loyalty towards a certain console. It all comes down to who's giving out the most money and the greediness of developers. Loyalty means nothing in the video game business anymore, sadly. I'll always stick with my PS3 and I'll never support Microsoft but the fact of the matter is that Microsoft has a bigger pocket and developers are continuously becoming more and more greedy. These ongoing antics are what will eventually make me stop caring about video games and yes, it sucks.
Just like Bioshock?
"our consolation is knowing MGS4 is, and will remain, a PS3 exclusive."
Exactly.
Never cared for Splinter Cell and I bet this game will end up on the PS3 a year later anyway.Ubisoft's games are usually no more than average,I can not name a great game from them in recent memory.
