If you remember the good ol' days of the original PlayStation, you may have been – and might still be – a die-hard role-playing aficionado. The debate can rage as to which system is the king of RPGs (SNES or PS1), but in my eyes, and as much as I adore the SNES, it's a no-contest.
And while Wild ARMs 2 didn't get as much critical praise as the original, it was still a wicked fun RPG, if I remember correctly. The first title released before the likes of Final Fantasy VII and, along with Suikoden , was one of the first RPGs for the PlayStation. The second changed things up a bit and offered a bit more in the way of action, but it was still a classic, traditional RPG (as most all of them were back then). And now, as noted by Examiner.com , the ESRB has rated Wild ARMs 2 and that can mean only one thing…yep, it has to be coming to the PlayStation Network for download. And speaking of the first title, you can always pick that up on the Network; it has been there since late 2007, and it's well worth the price of admission if you've never played it. Both are excellent for old-school RPG fans and although I own both (c'mon, you knew I did), I know many gamers out there don't. If you love the old turn-based system and want a good story with likable characters, you can't go wrong with either Wild ARMs title, in my opinion.
It seems the PSN is getting a little RPG-happy these days. Not that we're complaining or anything, right?

Great news! I loved the first Wild Arms when I was young. Classic turn based action.
Wild Arms 1 is one my top favorite games. I downloaded it from Psn when i first saw it on there, even tho i have it on disc. So much fun playing on Psp. Def will be getting this when it drops.
Awesome!! Now we need Konami to step up and bring Suikoden 2 to the PSN.
I gots me a mint-condition copy. 😉
I grabbed Wild Arms off the PSN last summer, I'll be getting this one as well. I own the original PS1 copy but I don't care, the PSP has a way of breathing new life into PS1 games IMO.
In an effort to get Ben to reconsider awarding the title of "king" of RPGs to PSone over SNES, one word:
Chronotrigger.
That's SUPPOSED to be two words…
And I've got THREE that beat it: Final Fantasy Tactics. =)

Final Fantasy 10, what?!
I've got more:
FFVII
FFVIII
FFIX
FFT
Chrono Cross
Vagrant Story
Legend of Mana
Legend of Legaia
Legend of Dragoon
Star Ocean: The 2nd Story
Threads of Fate
Xenogears
Suikoden
Suikoden II
Wild ARMs
Wild ARMs 2
Vandal Hearts
Vandal Hearts II
Lunar: Silver Star Story Complete
Lunar 2: Eternal Blue
Breath of Fire III
Breath of Fire IV
Saga Frontier
Saga Frontier 2
Thousand Arms
Front Mission 3
Threads of Fate
Persona
Persona 2
…should I keep going? 😉
@ Arvis, I stand corrected 😉
@ LimitedVertigo, Final Fantasy X was on PS2, not PSone.
@ Ben, no need to keep going, I should've seen that laundry list coming…
@ everyone, Chrono Trigger was still the best RPG for the SNES, arguably the best of that generation. It holds a special place in my RPG-loving heart, and I don't think I'm alone in that sentiment 😉
Yes? Keep it going xD

Sneaky Beaver,
I admit, I am one of those who gives FFVI the edge over Chrono Trigger for Best SNES RPG. I put Chrono Trigger at 2nd, though. And that is a BIG DEAL, considering I never even played it until it was re-released on the PS1. Even after the beauty and majesty of FFTactics, FFVII & VIII, Chrono Cross, and the like, Chrono Trigger still held up even to a newcomer like me. I can't say that about a lot of the classic games I missed out on (Ocarina of Time being the most glaring).

I don't get it. I'm pretty sure Ben said he DID prefer PS1 rpgs over SNES.
@SneakyBeaver
Duh….I was simply referring to what I consider to be the greatest RPG ever made. Which I believe trumps your pick.
Is there any chance they could start releasing PS2 games one day?
Quite a few variables lead me to believe at the earliest 4 years down the road.
There are a few PS2 games that I really wanna play, but will never go out and get. I wouldn't think twice about downloading SOC!
I'd have to say I doubt it, due to current PS3 Models not supporting PS2 B/C
I agree w/LegendaryWolfeh. As long as Sony can still market the PS2 console, it's unlikely that PS2 games will appear for download on the network. When it does happen, you're looking at hefty file sizes to consume more of your hard drive space.
Sony should have re-released the PS2 at 99usd with an hdmi plug. Then no b/c wouldn't hurt much.
What are a few examples of games you want to play but don't want to go out and get? You could always buy them online 🙂
@ sneakbeaver
I agree
Yay.
BTW, why does LimitedVertigo have a -1 Thumbs on every post he makes.
^_^
Hope this releses soon. Iloved what i played of this game but it kept on freezing after a certain boss fight so i never got to finish it.
Omg.. thats so awesome. I can't wait, Ill buy this (again) the moment it hits the store. This was one of my all time favorite rpg's for the ps1. ^^
