You know, in one way, the fact that Brutal Legend seems to be caught in a whirlpool of melodrama actually fits the setting. I mean, what could be more metal than this?
Activision Blizzard is suing EA on the bizarre, "we didn't want it but now we don't want you to have it" stance. A recent promotional tactic involved over 400 air guitarists and the Guinness Book of World Records. One of the Godfathers of metal, Ronnie James Dio, has stepped down in favor of Tim Curry as one of the major voices of the game. Now, it'd be a little more dramatic if the latter occurrence had some animosity somewhere, but that apparently isn't the case. Even so, according to the latest Twitter update by Tim Schafer, it seems that one of the big-name voice talents may be threatening to quit. The "tweet" reads:
"K, I'm getting on this plane and flying to the UK for one day to meet with someone who's threatening to cancel. Humanity, don't let me down!"
Uh-oh. Who wants out? It must be someone who lives in the UK, unless it's someone like Lita Ford who lives in the U.S. and just so happens to be traveling, or something. Same goes for the Prince of Darkness (Ozzy Osbourne, non-metal fans). Maybe it's Motorhead's Lemmy…it's the only name we can think of right now, although we are jumping to the conclusion that Schafer is talking about a voiceover talent. Maybe it's someone else who's involved with the project, but whoever it is, he or she is important enough to warrant a plane ride by the Double Fine boss. Let's hope this doesn't put a crimp in everything!
Brutal Legend is still set to release some time this fall for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
Related Game(s): Brutal Legend
Well, I realize people Deify Mr. Schafer, however, I cannot strongly disagree with Tim Curry enough. Granted, he was great in Legend, granted, he was great in Clue. But, he is by no means a replacement for Ronnie James Dio. Period.
As for the rest of it. Activision, should be burned to the ground, and it's employees shunned and outcast.

Tell us how you really feel. Ha ha.
Really? Are you that confident in Dio's acting abilities? I mean, he was good in Tenacious D but he was singing at the time. I would love to have Dio in the game but I'm not sure he will be able to perform the voice acting at a high enough quality to make him a believeable (and feared?) character in the game. Time Curry has shown us that he has what it takes time and time again. I understand that he isn't 'metal', but lets be serious for a second… most musicians are famous for their musical talent, not their acting abilities. I'd rather have a good mix of actors and rockers to make a well balanced game with believable characters.
Look at Pennywise…need we say more?
That's what happens when you f*ck around with Dio!
Hope this game fails
As a gamer, why would you want an ambitious project to fail?
I don't believe Dio stepped down. I think he was let go from the project and it pissed off someone enough to threaten to leave, as well. Seeing as how Lemmy is the only one of the talents who still lives in the UK. Rob Halford, for example, lives in Arizona. Lita Ford also lives in the US. Ozzy lives in Hollywood. And it isn't Tim Curry, because he also lives in Los Angeles.
It is Lemmy.
Hmmm, could this just be a pubicity stunt to up the hpye for this game.
(not that I think it needs more with all the news on the Activision/EA fight going on).
lol i was in the the 400 people, ben it was 440 something that actually did it
got a free brutal legend t-shirt as well
demo was inside, the games pretty boring and feels like its been done before, which was a downer on the whole event
"whirlpool of melodrama actually fits the setting. I mean, what could be more metal than this?"
There is no DRAMA in metal..
