Metal Gear Online Receives Character, Stage From MGS4

We're not sure this qualifies as one of the big announcements Konami has planned for this week, but it's significant for all you Metal Gear Online players.

There have already been several expansion packs for the first ever online multiplayer Metal Gear experience, and now, there's more content coming. A new stage and a new character is ready to spice up your fun: according to Kotaku , the new character is Old Snake from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and the new area is "Icebound Inferno" from the same game. You'll remember the latter as the Shadow Moses stage in MGS4; it should make for a very interesting addition to MGO, what with the obvious environmental features. When MGO first launched alongside MGS4, it was rough going; so many people wanted to give it a try, Konami's servers couldn't really handle the workload during the first week or so. But they've had a year to upgrade and maintain, and as of now, MGO is a fairly stable and entertaining experience, so if you haven't tried it yet, now may be the time. They're only going to keep adding stuff as it becomes more and more popular, so if you're a fan of the franchise, you really can't pass on the chance to put other would-be Snakes in their places.

Obviously, this can't be the entirety of Konami's announcements for the week, so we'll keep a sharp eye out.

For the past 5 days I was trying to upgrade my v1.00 MGO client to v1.32. It took me 5 days ( actually, 5 nights) to get to 83%. and then this new patch comes (1.33) and restarts the whole downloading process. All that waiting!! I really really wanna play MGO…

Get yourself a faster ISP speed. What are you running 2mb or something? Maybe servers are overloaded with all the downloading going on? Ya thats it…DUH. ME SMART!!

aaaah for 5 nights your PS3 was working! 120 hours!!! or did I get that wrong?!?

WolfCrimson

you got it wrong. 5 'nights' is turning on the MGO download from the moment I'm about to go to bed (give or take an hour) till the moment I wake up (give or take an hour), for 5 consecutive nights. So that's like 8 hours x 5 = 40 hours.

damn! I waited 7 hours and I think that was too much now..but 120 0.o…well I wonder how 360 would handle all those hours =D

You can actually buy the MGO upgrades and expansion packs with your PSN account already. You access it at the MGO main menu. You can choose to use the older Konami site you select and pay for the packs with your PSN account.

MGO is some crazy good times. Is this pack a freebie or are we paying again? Haven't brought myself to buy any of the packs yet.

I hope its free. I cant keep up with all the expansions. GENE, MEME SCENE i think ive spent like 40 bucks. i bought each pack upon release. if you guy them together i think you get them at a discount.

Good news is its free. Bad news, its only free to people who have already purchased all three GENE, MEME, and SCENE packs.

i downloaded it last night. i recvd a new Map based off the Shadow Moses Island. Old Snake as a playable character and 10,000 rewards points for each of my characters. I have all three packs so i didnt have any problems. Since you dont have any of them, try logging on and downloading the patch 1.33 and see if you get all the same things. Heres the source. I cant recall how much the packs are but i know if you buy them in bulk you get them at a discount. i paid, 15.99 for the GENE pack and 9.99 for the MEME and SCENE packs. i think all three togther are like 15.99.

Yes, I saw. Not really newsworthy in my eyes, but whatever.

…and last I checked, most of our big news goes up before theirs does. Especially when it related to E3. 😉

Love being at a all Playstation Website. It's my refuge from 360 fanboys. At least most of the time before the trolls start entering our tents. Then the BENorater comes at em hard with his PS3 motion sensing sword controllers and exterminates them out of the site. Gotta love it..

But, when the going gets tough, there's always a cardboard box nearby.

*points at it*

What the heck!!?

I swore I saw an exclamation mark…..I think it looked like this "!"

"the first ever online multiplayer Metal Gear experience"

Aren't you forgetting MGO included on MGS3:Subsistence? I liked it a lot more than the new MGO.

Agreed. MGS4O was a big let down but not a failure. i thought that since MGS3O was damn near perfect the next incarnation would blow me away. i do like what they did with it, honestly, but i miss the days of MGS3O (i especially like the little scene at the start)

i actually have more problems with CoD when it comes to sucking up bandwidth. KZ2 and MGO are easy on the badwidth in my experience.

"There have already been several expansion packs for the first ever online multiplayer Metal Gear experience…"

Its not the first, Metal Gear Solid 3 Subsitence came before. Portable ops did too.

I used to play the one on MGS3:Subsistence every so often. Now that I think of it, almost every time I did play it was with Ryan. I remember playing the last day the servers were up. But I only played the new MGO a few times and didn't really get into it as much. Might have to give it another try sometime.

Setting up an account for it just turns me off

That coupled with the fact that I'd prefer to replay the story mode instead is even worse.

I'm too lazy to download from those slow servers and log in to my Konami account and all that madness. I hate that it's not on the PSN.

I have yet to play MGO or GTAIV online for that matter. I'll get around to it someday…

GTAIV Online is hilarious, trust me. The only place you'll find idiots in the same team blasting each other with rocket launchers just for the fun of it. Gun down a particular player a couple of times and have that person chase you and ONLY you down for the rest of the session, believe me i love GTAIV online, makes me laugh all the time 😀

The GTAIV multiplayer trophies are mental. Not sure what they were thinking there. It's a lot of fun, but if you're there for trophies you'll be pulling your hair out.
