When a rumor breaks concerning a particular title, it's easier to deal with. But when a rumor come around pertaining to a game that hasn't been announced and currently doesn't have a title (as far as the media knows), things get infinitely trickier.
According to SKOAR! , 2K Games is currently working on a brand new IP for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC. And apparently, "there is sufficient reason to believe" that it's being created by 2K Boston, the same team responsible for the excellent Bioshock . As shown by their current work calendar, they're preparing an unannounced FPS, and here's one of the position listings:
The Backend Multiplayer Engineer
"Responsible for delivering a robust, scalable, and responsive multiplayer gameplay code and backend services for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 platforms."
We have no idea what the game could be, but as it's an IP, it really can't have anything to do with Bioshock . We also find it interesting that so many developers are willing to take on the challenge of producing a top-notch FPS, what with all the ridiculously stiff competition out there. We all remember what happened to Haze ; it wasn't even that bad , but because it fell well short of expectations, it failed. 2K is a talented team, but then again, so was Free Radical… Oh well, we wish them all the best, and we really wanna know what this new game is. Stay tuned.
Yet another FPS, whoopie!…I guess. Sorry for being less than positive, but really, another FPS? Did the world really need another 'new' FPS game?
How about some decent platforming action? Or maybe a decent adventure game? Maybe a good RPG? What about an out and out arcade game? Time for devs to find a new darling genre, fps games are getting to the tired and emotional stage. Time for a change?
What we need is a software house with some patience to develop a good old fashioned RPG, turn based, JRPG style… 😉
It's the genre that has sold the most this Gen so far so they are just using Common sense.I am personally done with FPS for this year but there are players out there who are looking for the next new fps.
For me Resistance 2 and KZ2 quenched my FPS thirst, but until more info is out on this game, I think i'm good on that genre.
for platforming you always have ratchet
and RPGs? well there are many options, the best of which will most likely always lead to FF
The problem is that most AAA titles are FPSs. Most people buy them because they're AAA titles, not because they're FPSs, so the developers and publishers think people want more FPSs and they make most of their AAA titles into FPSs. And so on and so on and so on. They don't seem to notice how the second- and third-tier FPSs flop.
But there are certainly those who want a ton of shooters. Not me, though I own more than I would have bought if there were more AAA games from other genres this generation (available at bargain prices).
I didn't buy the Orange Box or Resistance 1 and 2 or Bioshock because they're shooters, but despite that fact; the same will be true of Killzone 2.
I look forward to see what the game will be but I do agree with everyone else about the profuse about of fps games. This is going to have to be the greatest story ever told to top other fps out already.
Yeah, If I wanted to play more FPS I'd go pick up one of those …Call of Duty games or something. I got enough FPS (as Mexgeo pretty much said above) with KZ2 and even with over 100 hours in Fallout3. I'm sick of shooting stuff 😛
Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaawn!
Oh crap I haven't bought a 2K game ever since MLB 2K5
I wonder why!?

I agree with everyone else. The FPS genre of gaming has been flooded with more titles than I could ever want to play. This new IP will have to be very innovative for me to take notice.
…maybe a gun that shoots chainsaws.
…and boobies.
'boobies'
While not necessarily innovative, they do have artistic merit…as many an artist has proven over the centuries.
I made a cheap FPS on my PC when I was a kid where anna nicole's boobies SHOT YOU!
i just want me some bioshock 2
agreed
bioshock 2 is gonna kick some major a$$!
the last quarter of 2009 and first quarter of 2010 is gonna kick my wallets ass…
I played BioShock… then Resistance 2… then KillZone 2. All were great games, but I'm just done with FPSs for a while.
I'm not the least bit interested in COD MW2, MAG, or even BioShock 2. Not that any of them look bad, I just need a break from FPSs.

thats like saying a man who has slept around alot recently needs a break from women…preposterous…
Crabs take time to clear up… 🙂
Like Bank always used to say:
"It's not perposturous unless it's Phosphorus"
Mmmmm yeah.
But seriously, how can you not anticipate MAG, ha. It's got a remotely new idea in the FPS genre – 256 players ^_^
I see that as a wholely different way to play a FPS.
I agree MAG does sound very cool. It seems like there is a lot to do with the missions, classes, and ranks. There are so many games coming out towards the end of the year, but that may be the fPS I end up checking out.
How about boobies that shoot out chainsaws?
Maybe they can use it in Bayenetta 2, LOL
nothing says it can't be done, lol!
LOL, perfect for a mid-level boss character. She'd have to have massive areolas.
I think we are all simpatico here, I only got KZ2 because it really switched up the flow and feel and graphical innovation of FPS, it's going to take another big leap forward to get my 60 bones again. And guess what? A multiplat isn't capable of it.
you know the FPS genre is in overkill mode when a game like Bioshock 2 is being overshadowed in publicity and hype with the likes of Modern Warfare 2, MAG and Halo-ODST dominating the media
Bioshock 2 is only exciting if you've played the first. If you haven't, Bioshock 2 just looks like some bizarre shooter hybrid. And we all know how twitch shooters play one type of game, and that type only.

Yeah but MAG looks interesting, not just because it's exclusive and I like PS3 😉
@Barnabee Jones
For less time with crabs….."Blue Ointment"
Unless of course, you're catching bushels of the softshell kind…..
then it's "Old Bay Seasoning" for sure.
