Kojima Clarifies Involvement With Rising, Peace Walker

In an interview after E3, Hideo Kojima said he was merely a producer for Metal Gear Solid: Rising , and further demonstrated his active involvement (writing and directing) with the "Metal Gear Solid 5 within him," Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP. But that may not be entirely accurate.

In a new interview with Japanese magazine Dengeki, Kojima has now said he will have more involvement in Rising than we all believed. "I'll be working more deeply on the project than a normal producer," is the semi-broken translation, and he added that "it's a completely different kind of action than what has appeared in the series so far." (source- PSU ) As for the latter, none of us are really surprised, considering the baseline info we have for the game, and the fact that Raiden is the main character. But to further complicate things, Kojima had initially planned to "take a backseat role" in the creation of Peace Walker , until he learned of the game's concept and 1970s Cold War theme.

"At first, I was just going to create the overall guidelines and concepts for the project, and leave it in the hands my excellent staff. I was going to have a hand in the project as a producer, and make titles other than MGS. But, I set the game in the South American [sic] country of Costa Rica and created a story with themes about nuclear deterrence and The Cold War. It looked as if it might be very confusing to young people, because of generational differences. So, in the end I finally said, 'I'll do it.'"

Clearly, he must've gotten more excited about Peace Walker as time went on, and it also appears as if he'll have more input with Rising . Many of us were worried that as producer, he would simply have his name on the game but it would be without his patented flair and panache. Maybe we don't have to worry anymore.
