It was the shocker of Microsoft's E3 press conference: Metal Gear Solid: Rising is coming to the Xbox 360.
Of course, since then, the announcement has been downplayed due to some new evidence. Firstly, Hideo Kojima has said he has virtually no involvement with the new title (he's only acting as producer), and in truth, the "Metal Gear Solid 5 within him" is the freshly revealed Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for the PSP. For the latter, Kojima is indeed a big part of the production; he's directing it and he wrote the script. Now, according to PS3Center citing a Kojima interview in the latest Famitsu publication, Rising may fall out of the limelight for quite some time. Apparently, Kojima said you won't hear anything more of the game until next year's E3 and in the meantime, the team will be focusing on the aforementioned Peace Walker , Metal Gear Solid: Arcade and Castlevania: Lords of Shadow . This may sting for MGS fans, especially for all those 360 owners who finally had something to brag about (despite the fact that Rising is also coming to the PS3). But it seems Microsoft wanted to get that big announcement into this year's show, just so we have something to talk about for another year.
Of course, we do expect to hear snippets of information concerning Rising ; this be the Internet, and it's kinda tough to keep everything under wraps for extended periods of time. And if something does leak out, we'll make sure to bring you the valuable info.
Related Game(s): Metal Gear Solid: Rising
I may get the game, as the franchise isn't MGS without either Snake or his pops. But, I love Raiden as they fleshed out his character, so I'll give the game a chance.
Kinda gives me the shivers just thinking that Kojima's not going to have much input O.o
Lol @ the assumption that MS wanted to announce an MGS for 360 for the heck of it.
I'm not interested in MGS: Rising until I see some actual footage of it, get some part of a story about it, and see Kojima directing it. OH WAIT A MINUTE…HE ISN'T DIRECTING IT. NOR WRITING IT. NOR DOING ANY OF THE GAME DESIGN. NOR DOES HE BELIEVE IT'S MGS 5 to him. If it's not MGS 5 to him ladies and gentlemen – it's not Metal Gear Solid 5 AT FUCKING ALL. I mean for God's sake…why the hell wouldn't you take the word from guy who is only to be known as the father of Metal Gear Solid?!
I am much more excited for Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. No it's not at all a fanboy thing. It's because after Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops, which I finally finished Monday…I can't be more excited. In fact…MGS: Portable Ops was the best MGS I've played…(haven't played 4 yet)…I just loved it. The script was fantastic, the gameplay was addictingly fun, the graphics were great for PSP, the music was wonderful, and the cast of characters just PLAIN GENIUS. (I haven't played Infrastructure yet…and seriously can't wait to – Ad Hoc was fun as hell though)
MGS: Peace Walker is the sequel to Portable Ops (which is the sequel to MGS 3) – GOSH I CAN'T WAIT!!! The beginning of Outer Heaven!!! Big Boss again! CQC!!! TACTICAL ESPIONAGE ACTION!!! ANOTHER EPIC OST!!!! GREAT BEAUTIFUL GRAPHICS for PSP!! 4 player CO-OP!! He's bringing everything into it. I just love it. Oh and by the way…MGS: Peace Walker is a game where he will be producing, directing, writing, and designing. AND This is the Metal Gear Solid 5 for HIM AND HIS HEART.
What more do you need? If you want Metal Gear Solid 5…get Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. How can anyone not be interested in the story of Big Boss giving birth to Outer Heaven. After all…it's pretty much the incident which sort of gave birth to the rest of the "Metal Gear"'s isn't it? And with most of the MGS 4 team working on it…you know it has to be EPIC. (I've seen MGS 4 from start to finish even if I haven't played it, so I know the team did a good job)
Anyway I'll stop ranting. I'm just saying that…it's quite silly waiting for the next-gen "MGS 5"…when you can get Metal Gear Solid 5 next year. And if you don't have a PSP…get one. I seriously felt as if Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops is a good enough reason why I spent $250 on the PSP 1000. And hell I'M PROUD OF IT!

Couldn't fit in.
Yeah to be honest I'm more excited for the PSP Metal Gear from what I heard, and I couldn't help but be disappointed when MGS:R was announced as multiplat, and my anticipation for it has gone down for it as a result. It just doesn't sound like a true Metal Gear. And I'm not saying that just because it's coming to Xbox, I'm saying that because the tag-line "Lightning Bolt Action" and the suspected Devil May Cry game play has put me off this one. I guess time will tell.
MGS: Rising will a) probably suck because Kojima isn't truely involved and b) be like 8 discs for the sh!tbox360…
And Ben…What ever happened to Tornado Outbreak…that game looked really interesting…
The evil curse of Microsoft…those franchises rocked!
Silent Hill .
Resident Evil .
Grand Theft Auto .
Dino Crisis.
Star Ocean.
Devil May Cry.
and when they go to the evil-box they suck!
@Oxvial
…you might be on to something
hmm…..
Dino Crisis is Capcom's, but yeah I agree with you on everything else
Amazing how many titles went downhill though….
@oxvial
i agree with most of that
except for GTA and silent hill
GTA 4 was, at least i think so, WAY better than any previous one in terms of gameplay. although i'm sure if it was ps3 exclusive it would've been better.
but yes, that whole thing with the DLC just pisses me off
and last time i checked silent hill is just as creepy and disturbing as ever so i don't really understand where your coming from….
but all those other games yeah, except i didn't know that dino crisis was on 360 now….
oh well, i never really played that series too much so thats why i don't pay attention to it

"and last time i checked silent hill is just as creepy and disturbing as ever so i don't really understand where your coming from…."
Sorry but I strongly disagree with you there, have you played Silent Hill 2 and 3? Silent Hill Homecoming started off really well but it just kinda went downhill from there IMO. The suspense was lost a few hours into the game, and it just doesn't have the same touch that Team Silent gave the previous ones. I felt uncomfortable playing Silent Hill 3. SH:H just got a bit boring for me, it was too pedestrian.
@ antdc
i always find it creepy and disturbing when i'm playing a game with wierd baby laughs(and weird noises) that come from nowhere and faceless head-bobbing zombie/creature things from your worst nightmares, lol
RE5 is the s*it.
I have every Silent Hill except Homecoming…
They just lost it with that one…
So sad, I'm a big Silent Hill fan
@Qwarktast1c
Homecoming (refuse to name it silent hill) is the biggest example of art butchering and total commercialisation of a project. I was sick to the stomach of the INSULT they did to the talented Team Silents masterful pieces of art. Silent Hill 2 remains the most artistic, profound, cleverest piece of storytelling in gaming history and i doubt anything will ever top it.
I cant begin to tell you how wrong Homecoming was.
Silent Hill was not about its scares or gore (even though its the scariest game ever), it was about the art. It is the most beautiful game made. The perfect example of art in a game.
PLEASE DONT GET ME STARTED ON THE WII SILENT HILL….
Oxvial may have a point, but Tekken 6 (or Takken 6, as Ben likes to call it) looks like it's going to be the best one in the series.
-Arvis
@lotusflow3r
no the most beatiful game ever made is god of war
best damn series ever made 😉
eeehh, Uncharted looks better the Silent Hill. I would argue Uncharted 2 is the most beautiful game being made.
@Lotusflow3r
I could not agree with you more, everything you said in that comment sums up my feelings about Silent Hill.
@Qwarktast1c
LOL true but that's my point, SH:H didn't have enough of what you mentioned above, and instead they put in cheap scares, instead of the disturbing and amazingly suspenseful gameplay that Team Silent are renowned for.
@Jawknee
I think you missed the point on what we're trying to say. We weren't talking about which games had better graphics or looked more realistic…

same here…………..love the MG franchise not 4 the action fighting or w/e……..i love it 4 the beautiful story,awesum spy action & gorgeous cutscenes………..i don't want lightning bolt action from my MG games……..may b MGS4 was the true last MG experience
What the heck is Metal Gear Solid: Arcade?
@ World, MG Arcade is going to be a massive 4 or 5 player arcade machine system that that's all linked up to each other.
Each person will sit in their very own pod in the system(to do multi player battles, I'm guessing).
I saw a couple pics of it already, & I'll try to find it again so I can add the link here for everyone to see it too.
I'll BRB…..
Sounds pretty cool.
&@%#
So, does this mean that MGS:Rising can be scratched off the list of things that MS announced since it won't make it to market before the next E3? Makes their presentation even weaker.
even weaker than this year's?
that's pretty weak, lol
the best thing they had was MGS:Rising, only later to be revealed as multiplat (sorry xbox fanboys, lol) and a spin-off of sorts. not necessarily canon
project natal was ok. that milo thing was impressive but at the same time it was a little weird and creepy. they'll be responsible if the human race is ever exterminated/ taken over by AI, lmao XD
and i know that FF XIII is gonna be on ps3, so there's no worries
Why yes, yes it does.
Im excited about Peace Walker. Whoo Big Boss is Back!
Same here! I think it's the first time I looked forward to a PSP version of a franchise over a PS3 version. Peace Walker is going to kick major a**.
I hope its much better then Portable Ops. Hopefully they will fix the controls. I hated the controls in Portable Ops.
Hehe
@ World,
Ok, here ya go,
Here's some details, pics, & screen shots of the Metal Gear Solid: Arcade system
It's actually 4 single player pods tied into each other to make a 4 player co-op system.
And if I remember right, it's only going to come out for Japan later on, but maybe after it's out we can all make a big enough ruckus, that Kojima will bring it out to all the other countries too.
On one of the sites I've linked below, actually shows the PS3 game box & it says "MGS ONLINE"

respect.
Man…..how do you find all this crap that nobody else does?
Kojima is investing more into the PSP game than this, that says something. I'm not getting my hopes up at all. I'm expecting something similar to DMC2 (and that's a bad thing).
And considering that DMC2 was the worst in the series… I think you're right.
Hehe we still have a classic already,Metal Gear Solid 4 : Guns of the Patriots, if you're a 360 owner and waiting on MGS:Rising, i feel bad for you, cause i doubt Rising will be anywhere near Guns of the Patriots quality especially when Kojima isn't directing just producing,pff! Do yourself a favor and buy a ps3 with MGS4.
Sorry guys but they had something that looked great and I'm really sorry is not coming to PS3.. Alan Wake.
The video I saw looked really good, and the game play made me want to grab my controller.
I hope it might be a timed exclusive or that it comes out on the PC, but besides that, they showed nothing much.

Meh….Uncharted 2 will scratch that itch.
I've been playing the Uncharted 2 beta and they really do have something special going on at Naughty Dog.
PC is the lead platform and will be the true version of the game.
Hideo Kojima is producing the game, he said he is happy to bring the next major Metal Gear to XBOX 360. Why is it that people think he has no major involvement in the game and that he really doesn't want any involvement in the game for the 360? He is the producer and he was there at E3 announcing the game for the XBOX 360, sounds as if he is pretty happy with the game going multiplatform, why wouldn't he? He is not a PS3 loyalist, they will sell millions on the XBOX 360, I am sure Kojima is happy about that.

He said in a interview that he is not very involved with the project and that Peace Walker is more like a MGS5 then Rising is.
@pmartin2586
in that same interview he also said he would prefer not to release this game however Konami pays the bills. Kojima only acting as producer means hes NOT going to write the script as he has in the past, hes NOT going to do the art game direction. hes more or less just over seeing the project. Just like how Akira Toriyama just acted as producer or the over seer of Dragonball GT. Which was terrible compared to Dragonball and Dragonball Z. Im sure the game wont be terrible, but its just hard to see how this can be any better than Guns of the Partiots. Its going to be on a less capable machine which tells me its going to be much shorter, smaller and just a downgrade when it comes to quality. Im sorry, the 360 has some decent games, but when developers take advantage of all that the PS3 has to offer, 360 exclusives cant touch PS3 ones. Multiplatform games have been a bust this generation. Especially for PS3 owners. The multiplat games are always getting gimped so they can run on the 360. I dont see how this will be any different. PS3 owners paid more for a higher quality game machine. Its shameful that we have gotten so many gimped games to please MS owners. Also not everyone is more concerned about sales numbers then quality. Kojima is one of these people. I for example write and produce music. Theres terrible music that sells well and good music that doesnt. Id rather make good music even if it means it doesnt sell. The kind of music that gets on MTV and sells millions is easy to write and produce but its 99.99% crap. Sorry, i prefer quality over quantity. That is something teh gaminging industry has forgotten. Now they Compremize quality to maxamize sales. Its a shame. MS is a prime example with their willingness to knowingly ship junk just so they can get a head start on the market.

Well, everyone has a point here. Yes it's a MGS game on the 360, no it's not exclusive, yes it's produced by Kojima, no it's not written or directed by Kojima.
The thing is, even if it's not written or directed by Kojima, and Kojima isn't doing the art, he is as producer still involved from the point of view of making sure that the project does at least meet some level of quality expectation. Not only that the project team has the entire MGS body of work to use as inspiration and as a guide when designing their art and building their game world. So although it may not be a Kojima MGS game, it should still undeniably be an MGS game.
Yeah, he seemed REAL convincing on stage, the guy looked like he wanted to run away.
Kojima said what he was told to say, whether or not it was how he actually felt.
Honestly, do you think Kojima would get on stage and say;
"This is the worst day of my life and I wish I was not here. Unfortunately Konami pays my bills and forced me to work on the system created by a company I have no respect for. So without further ado, my team will be bringing MGS to the crapsixt… sorry, the 360."
@Nynja
HA!
I really hope Rising turns out to be good. The fact that Kojima isn't involved, and the tag line "Lighting Bolt Action" makes me nervous. I'm going to remain optimistic until we learn more.
pmartin, for someone who claims to be a multiconsole owner, you don't seem to know a heck of a lot.
No offense or anything.
He never said anything to prompt this?
How come people get away with slandering Xbox with stupid names like "crapbox 3shit me" or whatever? Im not fond of the company myself but slandering Xbox is just silly and shows THEY don't know an awful lot.
its not slander when its true.
Slander:the act or offense of saying something false or malicious that damages somebody's reputation.
Everything said about the CrapBox PleaseFixMe is comepletely true. Its a piece of junk. i used to own one and wanted to like it but I gave up on it after getting the RROD of death twice and the E74. I bought the thing in early 2008 too. After MS claimed to have fixed these problems.
