Who says reviews don't matter? Only the naive. When Valkyria Chronicles came out, it got beaten down by the other blockbusters of the 2008 holiday season, but with enough critical acclaim and good word of mouth (plus the benefit of a re-release in April), the excellent strategy/RPG has really made its mark.
As noted by Sega's official blog , sales of Chronicles shot into the stratosphere in April; rising 400% in comparison to March. They now say the game is in "tens of thousands of brand new homes," and let's not forget about the added incentive of all that downloadable content. Clearly, this type of surge isn't typical of a less-than-popular title five months after its launch, so perhaps Sega will bring us the sequel, which is rumored to be in development. And they've got a message for those of you who have continued to praise VC since its release:
"Squad Seven, you’ve done us proud. You’ve given attention to a game that truly deserved it, and – against all odds – helped Valkyria rise again. Thank you – all of you. Whether you’re the person constantly posting about the game on your favorite fan forum, the entrant who created Valkyria media for a contest, or the guy/gal who heard good things and decided to finally pick up a copy in the store. It’s thanks to you that this victory has happened, and as long as you guys are out there promoting the game wholeheartedly, SEGA will be right there behind you."
Yep, you done good, VC fans! We've done our part so now it's Sega's job to work on Valkyria Chronicles 2 and, most importantly for those in this region, deliver it to North America. As soon as we hear any information about this, we'll be sure to let you know about it.
Related Game(s): Valkyria Chronicles
I would thank Sega too if they give us release dates of Yakuza 3 and Kenzan US versions !
I would like to see those two game come west side too.
I'm not a big RPG fan but I always liked the look of VC, it received good review scores and I enjoyed the demo. I have yet to pick this game up but I will eventually. So there's another sale for ya Sega.
about time
i was telling my friends to grab this game forever now
they came over played it, and they finally bought it
C'mon sega, u'r on a role this generation (minus the sonic game) especially in the RPG department which is more than i can say for other companies (cough* Square Cough* Enix Cough*)
There are not enough words of praise for this game. It is truly a gem of a game.
I also like this game. (still working on it though) Who keeps giving you thumbs down? all you said was this game is good.
I think Highlander and BarnabeeJones got me to check this game out, only because they seem to be intelligent and I trusted their advice.
I'm withholding any comment about whoever is thumbing you down because I want to be civil.
There was a bit of a run of random thumbs downs today.
::shrugs::
Whatever.
Valkyria Chronicles still rocks.
lol why is Sega thanking us for? WE are supposed to be the ones thanking them for this awesome game!! And I'm so happy to be on Squad 7. 😀
On a side note, I wonder what the plot of VC2 would be, if they ever decided to make it? My guess is probably EW1.
I picked it up late, due to the busy holiday season. I'm really glad that I did finally get it. The game is amazing. the story, art, characters, and game play are all superb. I should also point out that VC sale's have beaten Star Ocean 4 pretty badly.
Please let the rumors of a sequel be true. There's really no excuse SEGA.
Squad 7 move out!
Star ocean 4 sucked,
then again that's square crap enix.
i tried that game out and was bored instantly, went back to playing VC.
haven't gotten the DLC yet, my buddy still has my copy of it been trying to get it back forever now.
i dunno SE better watch out. but im sure they'll be fine with the release of FF13. as long as they dont screw it up
"then again that's square crap enix"
Actually, Tri-Ace made the game. S-E just published it.
dun matter SE hasnt done anything worth noting yet, still waiting for a game of theirs to hit playstation and everything they released so far on 360 was crap as well.
They owe gamers this generation on both consoles big time
I'm a little but of a jaded fan myself, but since they re-released VII I'll cut SE some slack. They've really only put out one bad game this gen (Last Remnant).
Infinite Undiscovery & Star Ocean were developed by tri-ace. SE only published them.
Also Infinitie Undiscovery was M$âs to begin with. Square took over publishing after the game was started.
This game is fantastic! I'm glad it didn't go unnoticed and happy to see Sega show their appreciation to us fans. I found it quite pathetic that 360 only owners turned it into begging session though.
It's a crime that I haven't played it…
I am so behind in games though. I'm glad to see Sega doing well.

Cheers! to the slow burn effect.
It really does seem that SEGA has picked it up this generation. That is besides the Sonic titles they have been coming out with some awesome quality titles. If they keep this momentum going they are going to have my support. Bring on End of Eternity!
I actually got very slightly emotional reading that thank you. Thanks for posting this, Ben. 🙂

A company thanking its fans? This reminds me of the 90's <3.
We love you too SEGA, just give Sonic Team a vacation and bring Yakuza 3 stateside and you will be my favorite company this gen. ^_^
i second that, yakuza needs to come stateside, and sonic team needs a break. maybe they'll be refreshed enough actually make a proper sonic title. 2D remake (like bionic commando?) anyone?
Sega did a great job pushing the title months after the release with a strong online presence. Between their blogs and Twitter accounts (one, ValkyriaTribune, set up specifically for VC) they kept the fan base informed of what was going on. They also spread the word about contests that were being run with some prizes they gave out to various sites. They definitely seem to have tapped into the 'community' concept and I'm glad to see it's paying off.
Hell yeah!!!
Sega's going the good way now
***They've been a company which loves losing money***
Example:
Not bringing online to ps3's version of Virtua Fighter 5
Not making Sonic 2D again
Not releasing a sequel to Skies of Arcadia
They're finally doing things right

give it trophies if you really want to see sales spike.
How many copies did this game sell by the way?
People that want Yakuza 3 here please go to General SEGA Discussion on the Sega forums there is an interesting thread called.
Sony: Talk to Sega about Yakuza 3
This game is great, i'm glad i took Worldendswithme advice and pick it up. Now i just need to get the DLC and i'm set.
I don't have this game yet. Am i missing out on alot of stuff?
All I can say is " you're quite welcome Sega, now lets have some more quality games like this one". VC is an execellent game, if you don't have it, do yourself a favor and get it.
It is a really great game, I just have to get around to completing it!
This game is beyond awesome. I LOVE Valkyria Chronicles. Thank you very, very, very much SEGA! And yes, for those who don't know … there is the Anime adaption that is being aired in Japan and being fan subbed by groups. Google is your best friend. =]
i started watching it though i stopped after episode one cause ima wait for all the episodes to come out first. i don't want to keep waiting every week before the next one comes out :D.
Played the demo, not my type of game but it does look nice, and I'm glad it's selling well. Maybe I'll give it a second try.
They'll be selling a copy to me eventually; I haven't seen it in-store. I hope I won't have to buy it used.
No, thank you for the awesome experience. Truly a great game. Hoping for a sequel. Go Sega!
You rarely hear any company say "Thank you" this decade anymore,
So "Thank you", Sega!
