All big business suffers from the occasional lawsuit. It's just the way of the world and honestly, the only reason we need lawyers. Right?
Anyway, according to GameSpot , which cites a recent Associated Press report, Activision is taking Electronic Arts to court over the rights to Double Fine and Tim Schafer's Brutal Legend . Activision claims they still have the rights, despite cutting the game from their ranks during last year's merger with Vivendi Games. They also say they pumped around $5 million into the game in question, and that – of course – adds to their grief. A Variety report back in February hinted at the possibility of a lawsuit, to which EA replied, "We doubt that Activision would try to sue. That would be like a husband abandoning his family and then suing after his wife meets a better looking guy." Well, Activision clearly doesn't like that "better looking guy" and are apparently willing to take their chances in court. And what did Tim Schafer have to say about all this?
"Hey, if Activision liked it, then they should have put a ring on it. Oh great, now Beyonce is going to sue me too."
We love this guy. But anyway, we hope these proceedings don't put a crimp in the development schedule. As is, Brutal Legend is scheduled to release this fall, and it ranks very high on our "most wanted" list. Therefore, we hope this little corporate snafu simply results in a bit of money changing hands, and the game doesn't suffer. It had better not .

Seems like a pretty petty move on Activision's part if you ask me.
I appreciate the games Spinal Tap type humor and all, but I'm just not that blown away with what I've seen so far.
Same here! I guess only the Rock fans are that excited over this. I mean it looks interesting, but nothing that I couldn't live without.
It could never see the light of day, and I would be just fine.
for me its on my rent list as it mite be fun
Tim Schafer has made some of the best games I've ever played. Schafer is in the same league as Hideo Kojima, but without the fame.
This game *will* rock.
@Kangasfwa – Maybe that's it. I don't think I have played any of his games before. I've heard nothing but praise about them though.
People sue for just about anything these days.
seriously people take advantage of the court system. even for a stupid penny people will sue.
It's American dream =D
That's slander and libel, both you boys should be expecting court documents shortly. lol
With the massive franchising of music and tony hawk games and now this…looks like someone took EA's crown of major industry douche bags…
Ahhh, it's nice to finally see one of my many tips lead to a thread.
I was about to stop sending them in cause I thought nobody read or cared about em.
Anyways, Activision walked away from the project like it was a orphaned bastard step-child.
EA stepped in like a real role model, and filled those shoes and now Activision is claiming alimony???
In Saint's courtroom……………..
Judge Saint's verdict:
This separation is final & Activision is none the worse after it's short fling.
So Activision shall receive their just award, which is absolute, exactly……"NOTHING"!
"ALL RISE…..the Honorable Judge Saint has left the building"
Final divorce decree: "F*ck em"
You know, I don't see your tips. I'm not sure what address you're sending them to, but you can send them to me at- [email protected].
However, bear in mind that I usually see many of the stories I want to put up before I see tips. 😉
dont even bother sending the tips. your just wasting yo time.
plus wasnt this a story from last week?
my tips worked =) so of course it's worth sending them in
lol I guess Activision have too much time on their hands not doing anything, so they were bored and decided to sue for fun?
lol@these two companies
Why this is truly petty. If you let go of something and someone else gets it and buys the rights then you have no right to sue. I can see this being thrown right out of the court system.
dejavu?? i remember hearing bout this like 2-3 wks ago or something in and around that ballpark
I hear better news from Activision everyday.
They can go choke on a cactus.
@ Ben,
Thanks for the addy. I'll try that instead.
FYI, the way I was doing it was going to my Username at the top/left of the main page,
Then clicking on "User CP".
Once in, over to "User's Actions" towards the top/center.
Then down to the last link there that says "Give us a news tip".
I think I've sent in at least 30 items over the last 4 or 5 months through that link. And after sending, it does say thanks for the tip, so maybe that link is broken somewhere, or a dead email drop now, but be advised that I've never had anything bounce back to me as un-deliverable though.
So maybe somebody could check it out?
I'll see if I can find out. But I got the news tips you sent to my address, so that works just fine.
I'm loosing more respect for activision every day. They took the people that were making this game and threw them out on their asses. If they wanted a piece of this pie, they shouldn't have crapped on it. What's next? They still own ghostbusters?
You gotta love that quote from schafer
OK Ben, THANKS!
Now that you've confirmed that you've recieved my tips on the one you just gave me, I'll send them them all to that one from now on instead.
Thanks again,
Saint
To hell with Activision .
