Giant publishers like EA don't like it when games only achieve mediocre sales numbers, which is probably why you won't be seeing any more Godfather titles in the near future.
According to the L.A. Times , EA president Frank Gibeau said that after finishing The Godfather II (which released in April), the company is done making such games. "We're not going to do another one," he said simply. He went further to say that no such project is on their radar for the current production schedule, and that goes for three years. However, partner Paramount doesn't seem to be aware of this as a spokesperson replied that "plans for the next Godfather game have not been decided." EA then came back and re-clarified and…well, at this point, we're gonna have to go with EA's comments on this one. The last sequel sold only 241,000 units in the US and EA has passed on major licenses in the past few years; "James Bond" and "Lord of the Rings" have disappeared, although EA still retains the rights to both "Jason Bourne" and "Harry Potter." But Gibeau said that "the bloom is really off the rose for licensed games," which seems to be an accurate statement if one considers the relevant sales numbers. As far as Godfather is concerned, it always labored in the shadow of Grand Theft Auto and even Saints Row , but EA's efforts really were decent.
Anyway, we'll see if EA cuts another major license loose and if they do, we'll let you know if another publisher picks it up…
Related Game(s): The Godfather II
I bought it and enjoyed it to a ceratin extent, sure it was hardly gta but it had alot of potential. I think the main reason it fals behind is its greedy publisherr.
Now if only they wouldn't do a second Army of Two.. sigh…
you might just be dumb or ignorant to the facts…I can't tell
They are doing another Army of Two. It's up for pre-order at the EA Store.
Yogi, just so you know, even though these two clowns didn't get it, it was still very funny.
I played through the first one a couple times and thought it was an alright game. I've been intending to play the 2nd one at some point but it sounds like it's not as good as the first. Oh well, movie-based games are almost always let downs.
EA should invest their resources to making sure their games doesn't have bugs and lousy AI. Gamers nowadays are very smart, you can't fool them with nice box art and in-your-face marketing.
I don't know, Microsoft seems to have had great success.
/ducks
They probably shouldn't make a Godfather 3 since it will probably be the worst out of the three games.
If they got the rights to use Al Pacino as Michael Corleone and made the game based off the movie maybe it would have worked. What really annoys me is Pacino is on Scarface (Repulsive film), Why could he be on what i think is probaly is best peformance, in The Godfather Part II, i wouldnt mind a thrid game, if they made it like the film, but then i guess if i want the film, why dont i just watch it…
I heard it was because his voice has changed dramatically from the movie that he wasn't interested in being in the first game. It makes sense. His voice is really gruffy now. he couldn't recreate the Michael Corleone voice to save his career. The first game was still entertaining without him to my dismay.
Wow that really is a pitiful sales number. They need to focus on new IPs and bring some of that Dead Space magic to other genres.
I have to say from the demo Dead Space seems terrible I mean these repeative enemies that just "startle" (not scare) you every few seconds get incrdeibly boring.
I wasn't impressed with the demo either. But I went out on a limb and picked the game up… it was great! Easily the best survival horror game of this gen.

I had this traded it in after a week I thought it was just ok but not warranted a space in my collection.
My mate went out and re bought it back again as he had nothing new to play he has since completed it and said it was simply ok.
I agree with World on what he says about Dead Space I loved that game. Lets hope they do a Dead Space 2 which I am sure they will.
god father 2 sucked. rented it from gamefly played it it froozed. and i said wtf, then i went to play cod then it froozed also so i realized it was god father 2
Wow what a academic and not at all retarded sentence. (Not really a sentence though seing as it contained no full stops or capital letters.)
Terrible shame, if the games followed the movie trend, the 3rd would have easily been the best.
It just goes to show you that movies and games are two different things. Games based on movies suck and movies based on games suck. The only reason they do it is for a quick buck. When it fails to make that quick buck they refuse to make sequels. Good or not, gamers are weary of movie based games and won't pay 60 for them. I say it's about time a publisher dropped crappy movie licenses and moved on. Games need creativity and innovation to be hot sellers, not old movie licenses.
I know most people didn't/dont care for the 'Godfather' games (even though the first one sold a combined 2.5 million or something of the sort), but I really enjoyed them.
I still say the PS3 edition of the first is an extremely underrated classic, and while the sequel should have been better, it was still a very enjoyable game.
Hearing this news actually makes me a bit melancholy.

hope Mafia II is better then this game
The first one was stellar, and by all indications the sequel will be a lot better, hence I would imagine so.
