Sony's E3 press conference is under way, and we're bringing you live updates via our pseudo-blog we have set up, and I'm translating it all into headlines ASAP.
Jack Tretton is standing on the stage now, talking about the PlayStation brand. First, he explains that PlayStation remains the only player in the field with three distinct platforms available all at once (PlayStation 3, PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable), and the consumer response to all has been fantastic. He says the PS2 outsold the next-gen consoles in April – thanks in part to its new $99 price tag – and he further reminds us that it's in its ninth year. Tretton also revealed that Sony will continue to support the PS2 "as long as consumers see value in it," and with 100 new games this year, it won't slow down any time soon. As for the PlayStation 3, Tretton reconfirmed Sony's goal of selling 10 million PS3s in the last fiscal year, and their 30% increase in sales projections for the next fiscal year (up to 13 million). Tretton lastly said that 35 exclusives are heading to the PS3 in 2009, and that is a super huge number; we're hoping that more than a few are on tap for this conference!
Oh, and Tretton talked briefly about the PlayStation Network, and said there are currently 24 million accounts worldwide, which is pretty darn impressive. Right now, they're showing off some incredibly impressive footage of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves , and MAG is coming up next. Unbelievable stuff!
100! poppycock! when was the last good PS2 game GoW2?
Um Persona 4 mister!
Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raidou Kuzunoha versus King Abaddon
…long title, but it's due out on the 4th.
MAG looks amazing, I'm watching the demonstration right now.
true those 100 theres i high channce that they will be total failure the time that ps2 had its good games has long passed now everythink is total crap
That's a lot of exclusives. Evidently Sony didn't get your memo that the exclusive is dead. 🙂
35 exclusives? 100 new PS2 games I hope most aren't crappy companies like Midas
24 million accounts worldwide? But they only sold 22 million units worldwide. Am I missing something? I haven't watched the whole e3.

multiple accounts per system
e.g., we have 3 accounts on 2 systems
Lol, go figure!
Q!
"i am home"
I for one am glad that Sony's still supporting the PS2.
It just shows their committment to gamers, just as they will also show that same committment to us with the PS3, well after the PS4 is out too.
I can think of 2 other console companies that just upped & walked away from their own consoles way before their time was up…..
MS did it with their first Xbox, and Sega did with both their Dreamcast, & Saturn.
"Now you know what company has your back"!!!!
Sure its not 35 exclusives for all 3 Playstation systems??
35 for just the PS3 in 09 sounds abit unrealistic..
