Gran Turismo 5 Coming To E3 After All?

Despite what we expect from the likes of God of War III , Hideo Kojima's new project, Team ICO's possible "Project Trico," Heavy Rain , Uncharted 2: Among Thieves , and more, there's one game that could sneak in and steal the show: Gran Turismo 5 .

When Sony revealed their E3 lineup, racing enthusiasts the world over were disappointed to see that GT5 wasn't included. However, according to French PlayStation magazine PSM3, and discovered by GTPlanet , it seems the hotly anticipated racer will make an appearance at E3 2009, after all. Some very early info has come along with this supposed announcement, too, but we're steering clear of that until the show. The bottom line is that Sony simply hasn't mentioned GT5 and officially, the game isn't scheduled to be on display. Therefore, if this new revelation is true, it could mean that Sony is planning a big surprise of some kind…perhaps a release date that's sooner than we all expect? The last time series creator Kazunori Yamauchi said anything about a launch window, he actually laughed at the suggestion that it would release in 2010. But as we weren't the ones doing the interview, we all might be misinterpreting that reaction. Who knows? All he said was that GT5 might be here "sooner than we think," and now, we learn it could very well make a big splash at E3. If you put the pieces of the puzzle together, one can come to a very interesting conclusion…

It's just another huge title to be on the lookout for next week. We're expecting to see several release dates for significant projects, and we're hoping against hope that GT5 is among them.

Since when do any of these companies announce ALL of the games that they will show? Of course every company has something up their sleeve and I would think GT5 is the perfect announcement to keep under wraps.

How long has GT5 Prologue been available now? By December it will have been 2 years in Japan. Are we really to suppose that two years isn't long enough for them to have modeled the cars and courses required and finished off the game engine? As I remember it Prologue is the test bed, and it's been updated a couple of times at least.

I think it's about time the game arrived, but a two year game between the Prologue and the actual game seems like about as long as you can stretch something (our patience) without it breaking – if you see what I mean.

Totally agree with you. If you drag the release of a game on for too long you start dipping into Duke Nukem Forever territory. 😀 And no one wants to be there. And with rumours that other camps are going to be launching race simulators as well this year, GT5 needs to keep their attention or else they'll lose the market. Sure the other games might not be as good as GT5, but they will be on the shelf, and for a lot of gamers that is what's going to matter most.

Hey Ben, what do you say to the folks who always go on and on about Forza's 9,000 physics parameters making it a "fact" that it's a more realistic simulation than GT?

Physics is about more than parameters. The equations and algorithms used to process those parameters are what matters.

The same 9000 parameter car model could drive like a lead brick or a Ferrari depending on how well the physics routines are written.

GT is more realistic. I've played both Forza 1(owned it played it alot) and ive played Forza 2. Ive owned all GTs and played them for over 12 years.
Forza does a pretty good job at the physics, they're different, good but ultimately they just lack a solidness that GT has while providing more realistic/challenging physics, specifically on Professional.

So stoked for E3 now, we MIGHT have New MGS(?), Project Trico, Uncharted 2, Heavy Rain, GoW 3 and now GT5!!!

It's going to be BIG for Sony whatever happens, it could be awesome…but if it's underwhelming or they just unveil ANOTHER freaking Singstar and some pissy little motion controller I'll cut myself.

Good games take time, especially if your a starting developer and have limited resources. This game will have realism coming out the tailpipe. Plus the creator (who's name escapes me at the moment) is as much of a perfectionist as Kojima.

Photo K…would you rather have a rushed and ruined game of GT5 or would your rather let tha devs work there magic and make it perfect?…its gotta be near perfect look how long its taken and look at the screenshots

If i had to pick my "poison" I would go with a polished game. I didn't know they were a starting developer with limited resources.

But does that mean since they are new and have limited resources, the quality should be expected to be similar, as if an experienced developer with resources spent 1 year on it?

I just hope its a quality game, I want it to succeed as much as everyone else on here, but there's going to be some very high expectations. Just more pressure on them with the long wait.

They're not a starting developer. They've been around for 11 years now. They're just perfectionists just as Hideo Kojima is. And that's not a bad thing.

What's with the stupid picture?

Geobaldi

It's the Suzuki XL7 rally car that was made to resemble the Escudo and is driven by Nobuhiro 'Monster' Tajima in the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb and currently holds the record for fastest time in the Unlimited category. That 987 hp monster was a joy to unlock in GT2.

Xanavi23
Xanavi23

It also uses 2 Suzuki 4 cylinder motors, each making about 443hp. One engine is in front and driven by one axle in front and the other is in the rear driven by the rear axle.

I always respected the car but i never considered it the fastest car in GT because its kind of a cheat…it uses two engines, even in small displacement, its still two motors.

fluffernutter
fluffernutter

So which is it? Geobaldi mentioned 987hp and 2×443 is 886. That's a big difference. Also, how can you not consider it the fastest because it has two engines? A car is still a car. Unless, you add a chocolate fountain in the rear. Then, it's just plain nerd bait.

Xanavi23
Xanavi23

I was high…its 987, but split that figure in two and you have each engines out put.

When you're a car guy and you know how much of a difference 2 engines make even compared to ONE engine that has the same displacement as both smaller engines, you realise that its a bit of a cheap way to make big power. Especially even its competition usually run on one engine.

To a car guy its pretty easy to see how 2 engines is kind lame as much as i like Suzuki.

Geobaldi
Geobaldi

Actually the Suzuki XL7 that Nobuhiro Tajima drives in 2009 is even stronger. It's a single liquid cooled, 4 valve, 3.6L V6 DOHC engine car with twin turbo that produces 1007 HP.

Geobaldi, now THAT is a F***king Escudo Pikes Peak(Grand Vitara). Awesome.

I have to post that badboy in the PSU GT5Full car wishlist thread.

Two words:
Bugatti Veyron.

That's got 'two engines', so really, a car is a car if it goes yeah?

Geobaldi
Geobaldi

The Bugatti has one W16 engine not two engines. Even if it is equivalant to two 8 cylinder engines. But even with 60 more valves, two more turbos and 12 more cylinders it still produces less hp than the XL7 🙂 Though the limited edition Linea Vincero has about 100 more hp if I remember right.

It may be the current fastest production car on the market but they are used for different purposes. One off road, one speed track. And there's no way I'd ever own a car that can drain it's whole 26gal fuel tank in 12 minutes. Though with a fuel rating of 8/14 you can see why lol. Still it is a great car.

Xanavi23
Xanavi23

Like Geobaldi said, the Veyrons W-16 engine may be 2 W8s but they're fused at the crankshaft and share said crankshaft and as such are no longer 2 engines, rather one big mama engine. Thats the difference.
