Well, it's always good to be proactive but perhaps this can be placed into the category of "jumping the gun."
According to Ubisoft's recent financial report, summarized by Bloomberg, company founder Yves Guillemot said that "10% of Ubisoft's workforce is working on developing games for the next generation of game systems that will eventually replace [the] Wii, Xbox 360 and Sony's PlayStation 3." He went on to say that his company goes after new technologies "faster than everyone else," and reminds us that Ubisoft was one of the first to produce games exclusively for the Wii. Now, he wants the large company to be prepared for the PS4 and Xbox 720 (if that's indeed what those consoles will be called), and clearly, he expects Ubisoft to deliver a few launch titles for each piece of new hardware. At this point, it's difficult to say when any of the new consoles will arrive, but some analysts have said that new systems from either Nintendo or Microsoft may arrive as early as 2011, but it seems that most bank on the PS3 being around for a while. For our part, we seriously doubt we'll see a fourth PlayStation before 2013, but at least Ubisoft will be ready for it when it happens.
Let's just hope this doesn't start premature talk about the next round of consoles. We know nothing about any of them at this point, so don't even try it…please. 😉
I thought the PS3 showed up too early imo. I didn't buy one (nor felt the need to) until last December. I've just started loving everything that Sony and PS3 are doing over the past 6 months or so. Everything has improved so much (not just the quality of games) like all the content on the ps store. I can't even think about a PS4 at this point lol Although I wonder if it would benefit Sony if there was a new xbox to compete with. I think it would say a lot if the PS3 still continues to do well, and it's library of kick ass games keeps growing, and Microsoft… in order to compete, needs a brand new system.
The next generation of systems? Not yet my friends…
I think they are making a game for OnLive.
Onlive isnt a next gen console, its just this gen of consoles, being streamed thru video over the internet, which i beleive will fail.

Onlive, though impressive, won't replace consoles for a good few years yet. You need significant guaranteed bandwidth, which, the UK for one severly lacks, and a few journo's who've used it mention lag and image quality issues.
Anyway the thought of me not owning a physical game feels odd. I like my collection of discs.
I'm NOT saying that OnLive will replace PS3 or 360, however the folks that back OnLive are saying exactly that. UbiSoft produces games for everyone, they are like the most popular girl in a class at a frat party, they'll do anything for anyone as long as there's something for them in it (look at the limitless quantity of dross they pump out on DS for example).
I absolutely do not believe that either MS or Sony have their next game console close enough to the final design for anyone to even think about starting work on games yet. So if UbiSoft has 10% of their folks working actively on something, it has to be closer than the next MS/Sony or even Nintendo, consoles. OnLive is the most logical candidate, and has been describing itself as a replacement for current gen consoles.
Seems pretty logical to me that they're talking about OnLive.
Onlive is a logical step for developers because it removes piracy from the console scene, among other things. Not that I'm advocating game piracy.
I have no problem with Onlive. It's a very good idea. Apparently Sony has patented the 'Sony Cloud' presumably based on the same idea.
But I still believe that people want to own their games on a disc. It belongs to you. And you can trade it in. Thats what the Devs want to stop.
Basically, game devs just want a top money making system. And why not, they're not in the business of gaming for making games. They want to make money. Otherwise, why would they do it?
Mine is a cynical view, maybe? 🙂
@highlander – what im tryin to say is that onlive aint a next generation console, theres no advancements in the technology of the games or the machines they are using to play the games, as far as i know about it. So if Ubisoft are working on a title for a NEXT gen console, it aint onlive.
Ok Ubisoft, okaaaaaaaaaaaay
I sure hope Sony sticks with their 10 year plan & not any nex-gen anytime soon.
Hell, I just got my used 60GB PS3 a couple months ago(and loving it)
Now if I only had the damned main "users manual" for my 60Gigger(can't print it from my PS3 & PSN won't let me copy it right off of their site(and I hate using Adobe's Acrobat)
You can copy and paste in a new document.
They would only do this if they had some sort of idea what the next gen consoles will entail, right? Ubisoft knows something about PS4 and XB720. How much can you get accomplished without knowing what you'll be working with in regard to graphical and computational power?
lol.
i dont beleive this, Ubisoft just want media attention. if there is anything sony is working on, it should be a ps3 slim and definately not ps4, (would that even be the name?)
Ubisoft hasn't even gotten a full grasp on how to handle the ps3 so how could they possibly be handling ps4.
it's too early to anticipate or give develpoment kit to developers for nex gen.
except m$ want to put out another defective console that would be priced at $500 and then no one would give a shit, cos ps3 is one gen ahead on its competition and would be the cheapest then.
peace.
Should there be a PS4 the most logical move for Sony – to reduce development costs and hardware change – would be to move to the next generation Cell, keep the RSX and move more of the graphics work onto the CPU – which is how the PS3 was originally going to work any way. That way they retain 100% compatibility with PS3, and yet take an order of magnitude step forwrds with hardware performance. The BluRay drive will remain a constant, as will HDMI. Only more RAM and a larger HDD are required to complete the new system.
Ubisoft may not be too bright. That's a stupid thing to say, unless they mean they're working on games for xbox new system, which would move them from stupid to retarded.
Sony is probably the only one who fully understand what the ps3 is capable of. Ubisoft I doubt even comes close to pulling full potential for ps3, much less for something that only exists in their imagination
I believe them. Console companies do not sit back and rest when they release a new system. They are already developing the next generation. I think the PS4 is a lot closer to reality than some may think. The last thing Sony wants to do is give MS another 365 day head start with a new system. The PS4 will probably lean heavily on the PS3 core capabilities to keep the price down, while refining those capabilities to offer more features.
Ubisoft is full of crap, makes bulls.h.i.t games.
Farcry 2 is horrible, Assasin's Creed is horrible, im never buying a game with a Ubisoft label on it.
*realizes this is off topic*
What was my last Ubisoft game?
Ummmm ummmmmmmmmmmm ummmmm Beyond Good and Evil
Ubisoft = full of crap
I love Rainbow 6 but those first 2 months were HORRRRIBLE. Ubisoft definitely has MAJOR quality control problems. They would have some of the greatest games ever made, if they would spend more time on quality control.
I know many of their games were programmed by Video Game dev students but there still needs to be more checking on their work being done right. Flaws do not help. Waiting a few extra months is fine if everything works smoothly.
Well ubisoft have to make a decent game for this gen before they do anything.
And if they are thinkin of next gen its not for they ps4, it will be the xb720, maybe it wont be that long till it is coming out.
Good for Ubisoft…getting a head start on things. Even if it is just ideas and story boards.
I loved alot of the Ubisoft games so far this gen. Far Cry 2, Assassins Creed, Rainbow Six Vegas 1 and 2.
Keep up the good work and great games Ubi.
If I were Ubisoft, I'd give up on this gen too. Dismal failures thus far.
Morne
They could be making a launch title for xbox720 its almost that time for another xbox its been 4 years and I bet next years E3 they will announce it, mock my words
HaHa…your words are funny. Am I mocking them enough?
I think you ment "Mark my words".
AC could have been much better, it got repetitive fast IMO. But PS4 is too long away, how bout focusing on making a great game this generation first?
I'm a little worried that MS will release xbox 720 and it could possibly be more powerful (somehow) than the ps3. But right now the 360 is inferior IMO.
Ubi is first to market with buggy software. Good for them.
I think they should figure out how to sync a server with their multiplayer games before moving on to consoles that don't exist.
These games will wind up on PS3
I just want them to make a new Rainbow or another good tactical/warfare shooter. Until then i'll keep playing RSV2 🙂
High Stakes FTW.
Maybe we should go ahead and tell them that ps3 is a next gen system, we shouldn't keep this news from them, should we.

Wait…they're working on the "next-next-gen systems" hell they couldn't even handle the PS3! How are they jumping that far ahead?!? Maybe if they made some decent games for this generation I'd back them up. Assassins Creed is the one and only game I remember them doing and I haven't seen anything about Splinter Cell in forever! Thats just stupid of Ubisoft…
Rainbow 6 is a very good quality shooter in many ways, it has amazing graphics despite being one of the earliest games. However like you said, when it launched, save for the pure first hours before many people were on, the connection issues were **** for the first months.
Due to those reasons alone, a would-be-now-fixed-and-great-game, lost many, many fans/players in the those months. Now the game has been fixed save for a machine gun loop they still can't get rid of so there are an adequate amount of players. However, they did take a hit for the game and their popularity by not checking their work.
Ubisoft should cut the crap, and focus on the next gen systems we have when they still fail to make glitch-free games. First master PS3/360 games then move on.
Rainbow 6 Las Vegas was the 1st game i bought when i got my PS3. It looked pretty but i hated it. I believe i got one of those copies were you get to the end and cant advance any further because of some bug in teh code. Plus the firing rate for the pistols was lame. Call of Duty 4 is a much better game. Much better.
seems like a waste of time to me. I hope Sony doesnt have a PS4 in the works. were just now starting to see what the PS3 can do. its really starting to outshine the 360 in every aspect. Ubisoft sucks and ways. I never liked a game they made and they seem to be more buggy and glitchy then others devs games.
