This may fall into the bizarre "what the deuce?" category, but if it's true, we suppose it will come as good news to MMO fans everywhere. We think…
As noted by Examiner.com , the latest issue of Dengeki PlayStation magazine confirms that Square-Enix will be porting Final Fantasy XI to the PlayStation 3. It originally released for the PS2, Xbox 360 and PC. Now, we have heard that the veteran RPG publisher might reveal three new titles at E3 this year, and while this doesn't exactly qualify as "new," FFXI for the PS3 might very well be one of the announcements. While we can easily recognize the big push to include online multiplayer in just about every last video game on earth these days, porting something like Final Fantasy XI to the PS3 strikes us as being a bit…well, after the fact, so-to-speak. We've got stuff like MAG and The Agency heading our way, so how many people are really going to leap online to take a shot at an old MMO? Then again, we admit to not being very familiar with the whole MMO culture so perhaps we haven't the slightest idea what we're talking about, and that's a distinct possibility. But let's just say this isn't the announcement we want from Square-Enix at E3; we want something bad-ass, like Kingdom Hearts III .
But either way, we'll bring you the news as it happens. It kinda what we do.
