It's always interesting when a new set of statistics arrives, even if such numbers are never exactly infallible.
As reported by PS3Center , a recent poll has shed new light on Japanese gaming trends. The study involves only the PlayStation 3 and Wii; presumably, the Xbox 360 just doesn't have enough of an impact on the culture to warrant inclusion in such a poll. This poll in particular involved both men and women between the ages of 10 and 40 who are still considered avid gamers. About 28% of the group only own a Wii and the average age of the owner is about 32, while only 4.3% of the group owned a PS3, and the average ownership age was around 26. 5.6% owned both consoles and not surprisingly, the vast majority of Wii owners (78%) play games primarily with their families, while 77% of PS3 owners played by themselves (no mention as to whether or not this includes online multiplayer). The best part? 81% of those polled said they bought the PS3 for the games, while only about 52% said they purchased the Wii for the same reason. …what has PSXE always said about the Wii? That, while we all respect it a great deal for what it has accomplished, it just isn't about the software? Can consider this to be clear-cut evidence?
The only bizarre part of these findings is that the majority of PS3 owners preferred action titles while most Wii owners liked – wait for it – RPGs. 'looks around' Wait…that system has RPGs?
why cant they do this in the good ol' USA!
Because all of the fanboys will come out and just spit out a bunch of crap. It's the way it is and around here (as in the US of A), people just don't know how to give an opinion that isn't flame bait.
Yeah…
Why can't they try what they did with ps1? ps1 brought SOOOO many rpgs over to the US….
They need to start having faith in us again.
It's all about the Monster Hunter…
The Japanese know gaming
Jrpgs is one of the top genres in gaming.
"The only bizarre part of these findings is that the majority of PS3 owners preferred action titles"
Really? I wonder how much impact final fantasy versus XIII will make.
RPGs? lol. Unfortunately, the Wii IS receiving Dragon Quest X…and how ironic would you find it that I own a Wii? Well, it will suffer from last-gen graphics while aimed at the entirely wrong demographic, that's for sure. I won't be surprised if XI goes to PS3, either.
And Monster Hunter isn't an RPG, it's an action game, merely with stats…and Demon's Souls gives it a run for its money.
