Atlus To Publish Demon’s Souls In US

Hey RPG fans: we're gonna make your week.

Atlus has announced that they have "secured the North American publishing rights for Demon's Souls ," which was extraordinarily well received in Japan and some role-playing aficionados in this region were considering an import. But you needn't worry, anymore. This is guaranteed to be one of the most promising PlayStation 3 exclusives on the upcoming lists, and if you're not familiar, this game is an ambitious and open-ended action/RPG. The press release describes it as "freeform and flexible," and says players will have a "wealth of options." In other words, you can build the very character you've always wanted to build; you won't be faced with much of anything in the way of restrictions and limitations. We also love the idea of the "World Tendency System," which "changes the aggressiveness of monsters and the rewards for killing them based on players' actions." Oh, and as for multiplayer, check this out:

"Revolutionary online features support your adventure like never before, presenting seamless interconnectivity that serves in every instance to enhance the single-player game. Team up with two other players in simultaneous cooperative play, working together to topple some of the game's colossal bosses, or force your way into the games of skilled players and challenge them to PvP battle. Leave hints and clues for those who will follow in your footsteps; either intentionally or through your own inadvertent demise, your bloodstains will allow your successors to view a replay of your death, hinting at how to avoid your gruesome fate. Unprecedented in its depth and subtlety, peerless in its relentlessly challenging gameplay, Demon's Souls is the ultimate action RPG."

Okay, now…who isn't excited? Well, we suppose if you're not an RPG fan, this won't interest you but even so… We've been following Demon's Souls on and off and we're quite satisfied that it will eventually make its way to North America. It'll be here some time this fall, so you won't have too long to wait…

This isn't a game for RPG fans. This is a game for challenge fans. It's about knowing your enemies (and knowing them well), and proving you're better than them. This isn't another RPG. This is one of the reasons I own a Playstation 3.

Trust me, this game is killer.

From the videos I can conclude that this game will be in my clutches. Has JapanStudio ever let us down?

Why ATLUS and not SCEA? Weird?

Anyway, thank god!

You know i was thinking the same thing as to why SCEA did not pick this one up?

I have every bit of faith in ATLUS. EVERYTHING they touch is GOLD. The only downside to ATLUS publishing the game is that, they usually only have a single pressing of their games, so they are usually limited. My advice; don't sleep on this game, PREORDER it and make sure you can get a copy while it's available.

I already imported this game. It's all in English if you get the Hong Kong version. I can't recommend this game enough. It is actually VERY visually spectacular. I am deeply impressed. I imagine a lot of people will be turned off by the huge learning curve/difficulty but in my honest opinion… This game is what games used to be and what they should all still strive to be. And that is… a challenge of epic proportions that you learn to overcome. It's awesome and I am happy the US gaming community gets to try it out! (This means that any DLC for this game is going to come out here as well!!!)

I'll probly get some thumbs down for this, but maybe make an easier difficulty for us rickety Americans? I love me some RPGs and I want this, but I hate dying millions of times. Anyway, I gotta buy White Knight so this may be on the Xmas list 🙂

I also imported this game and I can't stop playing it. As some have said the game is pretty difficult and unforgiving but that is why it is so much fun. It really makes you work for your rewards and I am happy that it isn't another easy game where dying has little to no effect on the actual gameplay. Also the multiplayer is great and very helpful at certain points. Definately a must buy for people who are looking for an awesome rpg with hours of entertainment. Do not give up after the many deaths you will probably endure.

Hm I've been tempted to import this for some time, but now with the announcement… I'm in quite the dilemma: import now or wait till its vague "fall release" to get here.

I guess the deal breaker would be if anything is to be added to US version somehow; though since Atlus are only publishing it doesn't seem like that would happen.

It's an action RPG. I recommend you check youtube for some footage, particularly the boss fights or the trailer. The trailer itself got me geeked up for this game.

OK, so I've known about this game for a while, and the release is great news but… I'm still hesitant about the difficulty level. Is it really THAT hard? There's a thin line between challenging and frustratingly tedious.

I beat Ninja Gaiden… on Ninja Dog. I beat DMC 3 with the aid of GameShark… so I really wonder, is this game for me?

It is pretty difficult and can be a little annoying when you lose a good number of souls but thats the point of the game, like serich said, it's about learning your enemies and their weaknesses and then using them to your advantage. It gets tough in places but for me this game is as good as if not better than oblivion for that reason.

I have read about the fact that Souls =exp, and if you die you get 1 chance to go back and collect them. I really like everything I'm hearing about it though. I'm probably going to take the plunge and pick it up. I just pray for my controller.

Hmm, sounds like the game is going to need adjustable difficulty. Personally, I love a good challenge and will love the crap outta this game based on that. I have a question though. What needs to be done as far as translation goes, if the HK version has everything translated? Maybe this shows the good relationship between Atlus and SCEA? Not saying this game will be a smash hit but it seems generous to let Atlus publish this game. That's just me assuming the localization process will be an easy one though. In any case, more RPGs= happy PS3 owners. 🙂

I think the difficulty really isn't the problem I think its more the learning curve because they don't really ease you into it. People are expecting something more like oblivion and I think that they might be a little surprised that there is more strategy as far as combat goes.

Ben, you brought this game to my attention months ago, and I've been truly excited about it ever since.

This is great news… great friggin' news! I'm definitely gonna pre-order though, as I believe The Pill is right in thinking this may be a rather limited release. Anyhow, this news made my day!
