NHL 10: Over 200 “Refinements,” First-Person Fighting

Remember in "Swingers," when they were sitting there playing hockey on the Genesis and Mike asked why they had taken the fighting out of the new version? And the reply was, "I don't know, I think kids were hitting each or something, man." But then Trent went and made "little Wayne's head bleed" on the ice…?

Well, what better way to encourage fighting in a flagging sport than to turn it into a first-person bashfest in the newest NHL installment. According to a press release found at MCV UK , EA has revealed the details of this year's NHL 10 , and one of the updates includes a shift from third-person to first-person view during fights. Of course, one can expect a horde of other upgrades and "refinements," and these will include fans that bang on the glass, a brand new physics engine, and true-to-life player reactions and fatigue. It should be the most realistic hockey title yet but we just can't get over this whole first-person fighting thing. Oh, and if a "skill player" is involved, his teammates will definitely leap to his defense, so if Crosby starts throwing punches, you can bet other Pittsburgh players will move in to help and protect. In all, hockey fans will be happy to know that NHL 10 will have "over 200 gameplay refinements" in total, and this includes a new 360-degree precision passing mechanic that just sounds awesome. It'll definitely be worth your attention if you're a follower of the sport.

The hockey playoffs are really heating up – we've already seen several Game 7s – so now's a good time to start hyping the new game. Makes sense, yes?  Oh yeah, and if you haven't seen "Swingers," you're no longer allowed to read my articles.

Crazy Canadians and their funny sports….next thing you know there will be a sports game for Curling…if that's even a sport.

Yes it is a sport…I never understood it myself, but supposedly people actually watch it…Any curling event I've ever seen, it was more or less just an excuse to drink…Although I heard of one that some hardcore curlers play where they will play on ice outside surrounded by open water…if you're not careful you end up taking a Polar Dip.

And I think someone already did make it a video game. For some reason I think I saw a DS Curling game in the bargain bin one time…Comes with free Tim Hortons coffee!..lol(If you don't know what a Timmy's coffee is then you've never been to Canada. Drinking a Timmy's is almost as, if not more, popular then drinking beer up here.)

lol go Timmies! 😛 ya there is a couple curling games that have been made in the past,im pretty sure there was at least curling in the olympic games, but im canadian and even i dont see how somone can get all excited over curling, the only thing that would make curling fun is it was like extreme curling or something and it involved a lot of pain and action (dont know how that could be included in a curling game but ok…) but to be honest i enjoy hockey games more then other sports games (except skateboarding, motocross, racing, etc.)just because i find there is more action, after all hockey is the only team sport that actually allows fighting (or so i believe)

Curling is all about the 24hours for 4-5 day Bonspiels. Usually the bar is open the whole time (most curling rinks are fully licensed, at least here in winnipeg) and one can order and have brought to them food and drinks right on the ice while playing. Ahh, good times~

For someone who comes from a state that has no connection to hockey, this game actually looks fun.

Isn't there a big push right now to get fighting out of Hockey? Ah, well..I guess they have to do something, sports games haven't really changed much in the last few years so that's got to affect sales, why buy 2009 if it's the same as 2008 and 2007?

09 was alot better than 08 or 07 because it brought back the 94 controls where you could essentailly just play with 2 buttons, allowing beginners to get into it right away. tons of fun
my opinion at least

I was never nostalgic for the 94 controls like a lot of my friends are. I was quite disappointed with it, and will probably never buy another EA hockey game at release again.

Trading my copy in when I pick up infamous~

Well even though the Rangers are out of the playoffs, at least I have something hockey related to look forward to before next season. EA did a great job with 2009, so I doubt they will disappoint with this one. It's the one EA sports title that I feel has actually gotten much better since the next-gen consoles.

Woot, finally some NHL10 news, i've been waiting forever! I didn't think they could make many changes to what was already a great game… but damn, over 200? Hmm …Can't wait.

"refinements in first person fighting"… What a great idea. *looks at Mirror's Edge disappointingly*
