By now, you're probably educated on the Duke Nukem Forever saga, which has been the talk of the town this past week. More interesting tidbits of information continue to show up around the Internet; many of which from ex-3D Realms members.
One of them, Mark Skelton, has already posted up a bunch of high-resolution 3D renders , and in addition, he spoke a bit about his two years at 3D Realms. Perhaps the most interesting part about this mini-revelation is that while we've all known about DNF for well over a decade, Skelton says it was basically a "mess" until maybe three years ago. He writes at ZBrushCentral:
I was at 3drealm almost exactly 2 years. a lot of the staff were under 3 years. I took the job because if any company on the planet needed help finishing a game, 3d realms did, and we ALMOST pulled it off. In 2 years of being there, we were able to take this convoluted mess and make it into a badass game. I wish the world would have seen it to realize how cool and fun it was. The team we had was fantastic. But, no one will ever know…"
He goes on to say he wishes 3D Realms had released more content over the past few years, but they were "just a very private cautious company" and that meant the gaming public and journalists were continually in the dark. Apparently, the team came close to pulling this off – the game may have been ready in another year – but now, there's no way of knowing. Guess we'll have to wait and see what Take-Two plans to do…
